As much as I’ve been happy with the Tundra I did a deal for a new 22 Ram yesterday. Since I bought it at the right time its value just held on. After negotiations I leased a Ram Bighorn for $280 a month and got a check for $5000. That and the remaining $6600 on my Tundra loan is paid. Also have the option of extending the lease at the same price so I’m thinking I’ll drive it as long as they let me for $280 a month. Sure is fancy inside compared to the Tundra. Heated seats and steering wheel with remote start. Hopefully it will be reliable for me but it is leased and they provide loaners if needed

Congrats! We had a 2018 JL Rubicon. No issues up til we sold it and bought a 392 Wrangler.

I'd confidently buy a Ram 2500 if I had to replace my truck today.

I've got a 22 Ram Bighorn as a company truck, they are nice. In 13 months I've put 60K miles on it. I'm not sure the quality is there like the Toyota's of old but to be fair I haven't had any issues with it. I would definitely consider a new one for a personal vehicle if I was shopping.

Are you telling us that you let a 2019 Tundra go for $11,600? Kudos to you for banging up a three year old truck so much that must have been barely driveable to the stealership. :eek2:

Holy smokes I just stopped and thought about this math. :puke:

OP, please tell me you got more than 11.6k for a 2019 truck.

At $280/month forever, what will be the value of said new truck? And how much of that value will you have in your (equity) pocket? Not saying that a new Ram is a bad choice, by any stretch, but it sounds like you're really getting screwed.

:confused: Bye tundy. Only way I would consider another Ram if it was a 2500 diesel. Dad has a 2016, still a very nice HD truck. Edit: Would consider a Chevy 2500HD first if I hit the need.

Not many Rams are leasing for $280 a month, so he got more than $11,600. However, even if he got $300 per month shaved off the monthly payment, on a 36 month lease, that’s only about another $10,800 (need money factor, sales tax, etc. to be precise).

Even then, at $22,400, OP got jobbed…bigly. That Tundra had to be beat to hell and back for this to be a good deal.

Why is everyone in here surprised that RAM owners can't do math? :D

actually the trade value was 30k minus the $6600 I still owed. Try and go lease a Bighorn for $285 a month where they also give you a check for 5K. It’s how I cashed in my equity and dumped my $625 a month payment

Just curious.... Did they really only give you 11,600 K for a 2019 Tundra?!!! They must have been laughing all the way to the bank when they saw you leaving, no offense!

He didn't get more than 11,600K for his truck, he is legit throwing away 280.00 a month and will get NOTHING in return!! No bueno, not good math! You could have kept your Tundra, and presumably paid off the 6600 you owned in a short amount of time, and had a reliable truck and NO PAYMENT!! Sorry OP, I don't condone your decision or mathematics, but you are an adult and can do what you want with your money! I guarantee that stealership definitely can't wait until your lease is done though!! He went from having a newer truck, near having it paid off, to being fleeced for 280 a month and getting nothing out of it!

OP, I purchased a 2023 Ram a couple months ago. So far I am really happy with it.
Two things I don’t like. First, the wireless car play is buggy. But I feel like nobody has perfected that.
Second, the tow mirrors suck ass. If you leave them in the UP position. They are fine. But, they stick way out and it looks much better down. But when they are down the passenger side is really hard to get used to. I may change them.
If this things proves to be reliable, I will absolutely keep the Ram on my list.
I’m looking forward to see what Toyota does if anything with the Tundra. If all the bugs get worked out and they change the look of the front end I’ll be back.
Right now, I’m really happy with the 5.7 Hemi.

It is objectively true that he got more than $11,600. Yes, still not a trade I would ever make, and yes, he leaves this lease with nothing, rather than keeping a very reliable truck. Both things are true.

So in the end, you gave them $18,400 to get a $285 LEASE payment?

    Trade in minus payoff
    30000 - 6600 = 23400

Remaining minus your 5K equity check
    23400 - 5000 = 18400

What is the mileage limit? How much per mile if you go over?
What will the price be at the end of your lease if you chose to purchase it?

    Whatever works for you..
    Good luck Bro..

In all seriousness I'd love to be able to lease a truck but methinks I might get my ass raped for crashing through 50k miles a year, that and I really, really hate paying monthly installments.

Plus being nickeled and dimed for every scratch and blemish at the end of your lease.

I can almost understand leasing, I was in a tight spot financially after a divorce in 1997.
Ended up with a 97 4-Runner for $300 a month and bought it at the end of the lease.
But looking back I should have bought a cheaper vehicle that I could have paid cash for and not had a payment at all..

Trading in a Gen 2.5 Tundra on a Dodge seems a little dodgy to me..:D

But hey, whatever works for the OP, it isn't my money...

I’m not sure but this doesn’t sound like a good deal. It’s great for the customer to only pay $280 a month but you get nothing when the lease is over. I’m guessing this lease requires you to follow their maintenance schedule as well, that’s gonna cost an arm and legs.
