I have a 2023 Tundra limited. Has had a terrible brake noise since it was new. Sounds like the brakes are completely worn out. Dealer said they know about it and are working on it but no solutions. Any news out there?

It was like that on my 22 SR5 when reversing only. Couldn’t trade it in fast enough

Mine have been that way as well. Dealer said the same thing. Don't know if I am just getting used to it, but maybe seems to be getting a tad better. 7500 mi.

Replaced pads on rear at 5k miles. Covered by Warranty but definitely concerning.

Thanks for the input. The note about the rear pads caught my attention because it sort of feels like the brakes are applied more in the rear than on the front so the front pads aren't as engaged as the rear. Does that make any sense or is that possible...

Same here nothing like having a new car squeaking at stop. Told dealer at 10000 service they said this has been a complaint with the new tundra. Still not resolved

Mine has done the same, squeaking, since new. About 7800 miles now. I guess I should look at pads if yours have worn down so fast.

Same here for my 22 since bought 8 months ago … I have a case number with Toyota… drove my friends 23 and no squeaking…I think it’s production with pads being too much metallic

My 2019 occasionally squeals when reversing. May be a Toyota thing.

Pads aren’t worn out. They’re not broke in. Pad may be too metalic or too hard

Picked up my 22 with 9 miles and started noticing it from the get go. Thought there was gonna be a break in period also. 10k miles later and it kept squeaking when reversing. Could wake up the whole neighborhood when hearing it in the mornings it felt like

Same issue here. Also, at my 5k service, was told that they are working on a fix. They said my brakes are not worn or in danger of failing in any way. It squeaks extremely loud when in reverse backing out of the driveway. It wakes people up.

I had the same issue, the service manager said the new Tundras have ceramic break pads . They will squeak a little till they get warmed up.

I talked to the service manager this week. He called back later and said they were scheduled to have phone conference about the brake situation that afternoon and there could be bulletin coming out soon.
My 23 has 7300 miles and has been squealing since it was new. Does not do it all the time but is very annoying. Happens at different times of the day.

I get that, but they keep squeaking all day, even if I have been driving for hours. (less loud, but still pronounced nearly every brake, both fast and slow speeds.)

15k on my truck and I get a squeal. If I barely push on the brake pedal... nothing.... push hard nothing... the in between (I know weird), they squeal pretty good. Can't tell if it's from the front or rear but it is on the passenger side. Dealer told me there was nothing they could do under warranty but a possible TSB coming soon for the brakes. I also get the feeling of possible rotor warp when braking hard. Not too bad but it's there once in a while.

Trd lift. Heritage grill. Painted grill surround. Ceramic tint. Bfg ko2. Leer canopy.
When I back out of my garage in the morning mine howl pretty bad. Worse when I park in after driving in the rain. I’ve never had brakes howl only in reverse. Talked to my service advisor and he noted it. I will have it checked at my next service. This is pretty annoying, my wife can hear it in the house.

2023 1794 Tundra - Every day, I start with loud squeaking that can be heard at several houses around me. Embarrassing. Started at about 2k miles, and I still have it at 4k miles. Told the dealer during a recall follow-up, and they just told me Tundras squeak. They didn't note it in my service notes. Will have them put it in at my 5k service.

Thanks. This definitely came to my mind and I am going to insist on the several things I mention to be noted in my record and not just verbal. I also want them to note that nobody can train me on the tech in the car. It drives me crazy that there is not a tech guru available on campus. Luckily I find solutions here in this forum.....

    Thanks again for the advice!

Has anyone figured out why the brakes squeak in reverse? My 2023 Tundra has been doing it since day one. I took it to a dealership and was told that they couldn't replicate the issue and no problem was found.

I saw this exact issue with my dad's 2008 Chevy S10 back in the day. I traced it to the rears and scuffing up the rear pads and rotors worked... for a little while. Squeal always came back eventually. My brother now owns that truck... it is still in great shape with very low miles... and asked me about it and all I could do is say "that's the way it is". Luckily my 2023 Tundra isn't doing this... yet?

The other squeal I had was with my 2016 Corvette when cold on aftermarket PowerStop pads. I changed those pads out to EBC Red Stuff and totally solved the problem. Maybe we just need different pads on the Tundras. Might be worth a try.

Mine are as quiet as a mouse peeing on cotton. 1100 miles, knock on wood.

Mine only does this squealing when it has been wet and when backing up and not being used for a day or so just figured it was a disc brake thing where moisture makes a thin form of oxidation or rust that has quieted after i apply brakes a few times this has gone away for me.

Disk brakes often squeal more in reverse because the trailing edge of the pads wears into sharp knife-like edge. Braking in reverse causes that edge to drag on the disk and can cause the squeal.

That said, it should not be happening on a new truck. Fortunately, my 2023 brakes are dead quiet so far at 5K miles.

    Matt
