Drivers seat feels too high.

The drivers seat in my 2019 SR5 has always felt too high for me. IDK if there is anything I can really do about it but I thought I would bring it up here to see if anyone else feels this way or has a suggestion.

I am a recovering F150 addict so I am sure that is some of it, but I have had my Tundra for 18 months now and still not used to the high seat feeling.

 

Interesting observation coming from an F-150 with the upright folding chair style seating.

 

Well there is a lever that lowers it some.

 

I have always said this about the Tundra. My 2011 seats felt way too tall. I swapped in a 2016 driver seat and it seems to maybe be an inch lower overall which I like, but I could stand to be lower still.

 

Your sig line says "2019 SR5 Upgrade Package" which is what I have, and mine has a power adjustable drivers seat, including a height adjustment.

Do you have power seat? If so have you adjusted it?

 

My 2018 has a power driver's seat and it is too high for me as well (can't hardly get in with any sort of hat on). Lowered all the way. I'm not that tall (5'10"), I wonder how tall drivers (6'+) deal with this. Same with my wife's 2017 Sequoia. She is short so it's good for her but I have to contort like pretzel to get into hers.

OTOH, I like the height while in the seat from a driver's perspective.

I agree. I’m 6’3” and feel like I’m sitting too high. I found a thread for an earlier model tundra where the guy cut off the back of the seat bracket, drilled holes in the seat bracket, and bolted to a plate with new holes (then securing to the floor). Dropped the rear of the seat an inch or two which seems like it may make a big difference. I’ve been debating doing this, but not sure I like the idea of modifying the factory seat bracket.

would love to replace with a Scheel Mann seat, but pretty expensive, and from what I've read, have to sacrifice the side airbags. Also issues with passenger seat occupancy sensor. Discussed a bit here: https://www.tundras.com/threads/seat-upgrades.69722/

I'm 6'3" and got seat jackers for mine because my legs felt too low and now its perfect. I guess I'm the complete opposite

It does tilt the seat back a little and supports legs a lot more.

 

I'm average height and the seat height itself seems just about right, but I'm having the same issue with my legs feeling too low. Accelerator foot always feels like it's in an awkward position.
Are the seat jackers a custom fit per vehicle? Got a link?

My Tundra seat has the metal ears/feet with holes in then bolted to the floor. It looks like the only way I could lower the seat would be to take the seat out, cut a space out and re-weld them shorter.

 

The only other option I can think of is to shave down the seat cushion. But then your seat cover might be a little sloppy.

 

Maybe you just need to add something to look over the top of. ..

 

Not sure I can say the seat is too high, I'm 6' 1" and can get in/out with no issues, and plenty of headroom. Is your issue getting in/out or the seating position feels awkward, like you're sitting too upright and sliding off the front? I do agree the front is a little too low, even adjusted in the full down in rear - up in front orientation. The Desertdoesit seatjackers fixed that issue and makes the sitting position feel much better.

 

I can get in and out mostly OK except I have to bend me head down a bit and partially contort when wearing a cowboy hat. My main gripe is that I feel like I am sitting on a high chair or on a riding lawnmower with the hood and wheel way below me. I would like to have more of the sunk down in the seat feeling.

I really dislike Ford, but stop at a car lot sometime and sit in an 2018+ F150 to see the difference.

 

Being 5’5 the seat with adjustments is good for me. My only complaint when I got my tundra I wish the seats were like my 4runner Pro. You sit into them better. Even my Tacoma also.

 

I’d try the seat jackers mentioned above. They lift the front of the seat 1” and create a more natural comfortable sitting position. Sounds counterintuitive to add height if you feel it’s already too high, but it raises your thighs, which drops your backside and actually may solve your issue. When I first got my truck I just felt the seat was too flat, like I was sliding forward on every stop. The seat jackers solved that and you feel more “in” the seat rather than “on” the seat, if that makes sense. You could experiment with a stack of washers or something first to feel the effect, but I wouldn’t recommend a homemade remedy for something that literally holds you in place in the event of an impact.

 

This is exactly the reason I plan to get a set of the seat jackers. I’m 6’1” and agree with the theme of the thread that the seating position is too tall. OP’s “high chair” metaphor jives well with how I feel.

OP, do you have the headrest on the seat? I don’t see how you could comfortably drive with a cowboy hat on. Mine all hit the headrest and push my head awkwardly forward. The truck usually takes it off my head for me and then I put it away while I drive.

 

I tried the seat jackets and they just didn't work for me and actually made the seat feel more awkward. For my hat I had the headrest backwards and reclined the seat a bit. Probably dangerous I know so I put it back the way it was. I might try to pick up a used seat to modify lower so as to not mess up my current one. For the first time in my life I feel like 2 inches would make a difference

Are there any custom shops around that do interiors? Maybe someone could shave down/modify the seat cushion, or make a new one, then make adjustments to the cover.
What about a place that works on boats? They do a lot of upholstery work, or at least have someone they farm it out to.
Working the seat bottom might be less hassle and expense than buying a whole new seat and/or modifying the frame.

 

Yes, this is a good idea. I haven't even looked to see if there is enough room to lower the seat by the frame.
