    Hey fellas,

Looking to get a bed extender. I am new to the Tundra and noticed the latest model OEM extender is a V shape? Seems like a waste of space, so I was looking at 1) the older model OEM "U" # PT392-34000 or 2) an Amp Research Max.

    https://www.toyotapartsdeal.com/oem/toyota~bed~xtender~tundra~pt392-34000.html

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AECDG0K/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

OEM has a no drill mount. Amp is cheaper but I'd have to special order the no drill mount, and it has two humps where I'd imagine my 9ft longboard to stick out. Any reason to not go with the OEM part?

    Thanks!
    Jim

It looks like OEM is a pretty defined V. And the pre 2012 model is more of a U. I've been seeing pt392-34000 (Old OEM) for approximately $250, so maybe thats the best route. Doesn't officially fit the 2017, but seems it actually fits just fine.

I had one the U-shaped extender on my CrewMax for a little but ultimately got rid of it because it got in the way more than I actually found it useful.

Just in case anyone else is looking, I ended up going with the Toyota Part PT392-34000. Made for Toyota by AMP as the factory accessory for older Tundras. Bought on Amazon for $300 with Prime shipping.

While not listed as compatable, fits my 2017 Tundra perfectly. Really nice product, installed in about 15 mins, no drilling.

You just take off the tie down loops and put the brackets under the loops and screw them back on. While you would have a little more room, it's nice being able to still climb up onto the tailgate. The one they were selling in 2000 pretty much covered the whole tailgate. So you had to climb up from the tires. Got mine barely used for $125, watch CL. There are guys selling them fairly frequently.

Super easy. Remove old bolts, put bracket behind tie down, reinstall with provided hardware. Took about 5 mins.

I've got the AMP made Toyota branded v-shape. Not a whole lot of difference from the u-shape.

What seems weird about the amp stuff, is that if you buy the non Toyota one, it's a drill bracket. You have to know a special part number and talk to the right person at AMP, and then they can get you the no drill bracket.

This is the one that came with my truck, I agree it is a nice and unit and it locks down well.

Just talked to AMP: for the "no-drill bracket" call (949) 221-0023 or (888) 983-2204, parts are 10-3313x-92 where x is L for left side and R for right side. These parts have a cost of $16.18 each plus shipping.

Does anyone know if the 1st gen extender fits on the 3rd gen? There's one available on CL and I'm thinking of jumping on it if it fits...

They are typically adjustable .The one I had on my Tacoma has the center portion, between the two upright supports, a smaller diameter so it slides into the corner pieces, so it can be adjusted for different widths. So, there might be a possibility that it can be made to fit .

I see this post was a year old. Thought I would update. I called the 888 # and the lady said they weren’t available. I had her transfer me to the tech support guy. He pulled the 10-3313L-92 and 3313R no problem. Price went up to $20.10 plus 6.00 for shipping to Texas. But I found the extender on CL for 100.00 so still a great deal!

That looks great. My 02 came with an extender which I never thought I would want but I've found it to be quite useful at times.

I love the color they are now. I actually painted mine black a few week's ago.1218181555.jpg

I know this is an old thread but wanted to share that I called a few dealers today to order the older “U” style bed extender (PT392-34000) and was told there are only 4 left in the country. Get one before they are gone...
