i have a 2014 tundra. I have had aftermarket light pods installed for about a year now and i noticed they recently werent turning on due to a wire touching metal. i cut the wire and rewired it and put a new fuse in. while i was driving after installing the fuse my 4hi 4lo lights started flashing and the abs and traction control came on all at once. i went to the car wash thinking a rock or mud got stuck on a sensor and they remain on. heres where it gets confusing. when i took my truck to get a reading done they said it was front right wheel abs sensor. my dad has a 2019 tundra so i tried using his sensor to see if that was the issue but didn't change anything. AutoZone code scanner said i have a open circuit to that sensor. the other confusing part is that when i put the fuse in for the fog lights they wont turn off. i tried a new relay for the fog light and that didn't help either. even if i take the relay out with the truck off and insert a fuse for the fog lights they come on. I'm very very confused and really don't want to take it to Toyota for something that is probably very simple to fix. I need help trying to solve this please.

Can you give a little more detail or pictures on the wire break? Where was it at on the truck? What color ect?

Sounds like you also have a break in the wiring to the front wheel speed sensor.

When you say fog lights, do you mean the factory one or the aftermarket light pods? Are the light pods replacements for the factory fogs using factory wiring?

they are aftermarket led light pods i made work for the fog lights. the wire that was touching the metal is the driver side white wire. i cut the wire and reran that wire. the light pods work but cant figure out why they wont turn off when the fuse is in the fuse box. the wire that was exposed was touching the metal right behind the factory fog light slot.

Do you have any pictures. I can explain how all the wiring works but I need to understand your setup first.

So there’s a black wire and a white wire. The white wire was touching the metal right here.

Im not as much worried about where the wire was touching as I am what color they are and where they go.

The factory fog light wiring has a blue power wire and a black/white ground wire there.

If you describe a solid white and solid black wire then this is all atfermarket. Where the other end goes who knows.

This is what I was getting at about asking is you were using the factory wiring or not.

It’s hard to fix or diagnose this if I have no clue how or what the other side is wired to. If it’s factory way easier, I can explain the entire factory fog light wiring no problem.

Let’s try this approach. Are you using the factory fog light switch in the cab on the steering column.

Which fuse are you replacing? Are you absolutely sure it’s the fog light fuse? Are you absolutely sure you are pulling the fog light relay.

With the factory wiring from Toyota, if you remove the fog light relay it is impossible for the fog lights to come on. If you are saying that is happening we need to dive deeper into how this aftermarket fog lights were integrated into the trucks wiring.

I cut the factory fog light connectors off. I added my after market lights and tied them straight into the factory wiring. I use the factory fog light switch on my headlight toggle switch. I’ve had them on my truck for a year. The light that had the wire touching metal will faintly come on with no fuse then shuts off after the truck is turned off completely. And sorry you are correct it is a blue wire and a white wire. I reran them in the dark and thought it was black and white wires.

Also yes I’m 100% sure it’s the fog relay and fog fuse that I’ve tested. The fog light fuse is 15amp

Ok so upon further investigation. I decided to open up the linehide that has the blue and white wire coming through it. The blue wire melted through the rubber protection so I am now trying to figure out how to see if it’s burnt anything else. I’m assuming this is from me putting in a 30amp fuse instead of the 15amp fuse?

Yes. You had a fuse that allowed a more current to flow through the system then it was designed to handle. So the short (wire on the metal), cased a current draw that resulted in heat that would of melted the 15A fuse before any wire or component would fail. Your 30A allowed more current and therefore more heat. Hence your melted wires and whatever else that you currently can't see.

Also @zzoutdoorzz02 , I don't see anywhere previous to your last post about sticking in a 30A fuse into a 15A circuit. That's a very important detail that was missing.

Makes a huge difference. Not insulting your intelligence, but if electric work isn't something your familiar with and you're trying to save cash, I'd try a friend with that skillset and have a case of beer on hand.

    Just my .02.

i appreciate it man i figured out the fog light situation now got to figure out how to get them to turn on. i ran out of daylight. i didn't know you couldn't put a higher amp fuse in until reading forums on this stuff. lesson learned. now i have to figure out the open circuit abs sensor deal lol.

What did you figure out with the fog lights? The circuit is pretty simple.

The ON "signal" come from the body control module light blue wire that turns grey and goes into the fog light relay. When the relay is triggered by the ON "signal" it closes making a contact between the 15A Fog fuse beige wire and the red power wire to the lights.

Knowing this it is impossible for the fog lights to come on with the fuse being inserted and no relay in place. Removing the relay creates a break in the circuit between the fuse and lights. Unless your entire fuse box is melted together, the idea that removing the fog relay and the fogs still coming on is not correct.

so i thought i figured out the fog lights. however i did not. but i did fix the abs traction control and 4hi 4lo flashing. theres a red wire im assuming comes from the fuse box? that when i touch the wires together the fog lights stay on. as of now i have that wire cut because they wont turn off with them together. does that red wire come from the fuse box. im thinking thats the red wire from your diagram you sent but want to make sure before i take the fuse box out..

If your taking out a fuse box at this point, you may want to consult an expert who can carefully inspect what's going on.
