    Greetings.
I have a 35 year history of loyal Toyota product ownership. My current 2022 Toyota Tundra Limited has been the most disappointing ownership experience of any vehicle ever owned. My previous Tundra and Tacoma trucks were highly dependable and nearly flawless. The 2022 Tundra has been at the local dealership for warranty repairs for almost 3 weeks total over the last 9 months. While there is an outstanding service department at the local dealership, they have been forced to deal with the fallout from poor engineering and quality control seen in this vehicle. The list of problems is too lengthy to post in entirety, but one example is that the entire front braking system had to be replaced (at 5k miles) due to "screaming like a Banshee" when braking.

The following is the latest event which I'll share which "speaks for itself."

A rock caused a cracked windshield 7 weeks ago. Dealer can't get an OEM because they say there are almost 300 Tundra windshields on backorder (but local glass company says they can get an aftermarket PPG windshield immediately! How is that possible?). On 03/09/2023, I contacted Toyota Corporate and provided information asking them to investigate why there are no windshields available. They said someone would contact me within 5 business days. At the end of 5 days not a word from Toyota as promised. I contacted them again. Spoke with the "case" manager who basically had nothing to offer other than he would have to "investigate" and would contact me within 2 business days. 2 days went by and not a word. After not hearing from Toyota again, I reached out after day 4. I was told they were "waiting on a report to be released" concerning the status of the backorder. No action taken here, "just waiting on a report". How are windshields available for daily production in San Antonio but there are no windshields available for Tundra owner's needing one now?

Events like these speak poorly of Toyota as a whole and demonstrate complete indifference towards the customer. I have purchased Toyotas in the past because the company formerly took great pride in their products and how the customer was treated. I believe those days may be gone. Mr. Toyoda would be horrified.

    Res Ipsir Loquitur.

My insurance agent told me the same thing… although his contact swears it’s a genuine Toyota windshield…
For now I’ve left it like that. Waiting to get a few more chips to justify the expense. A bit more concerning is he states it does not need to be calibrated, yet the TSI states it should be calibrated. First world problems…

Certainly, OEM windshields are not made by Toyota but don't want an aftermarket on a 2022 truck.

I can assure you that Toyota gets the cheapest manufacturer that meets its specs. to stamp toyota on windshield to supply them.
PPG is by a long shot not a cheap after market. How long are you willing to ride around with a broken windshield I guess is the question .
Toyota is suppling new trucks they are building with every windshield the manufacturer of there Toyota branded windshields , replacements are not high on list vs. holding up a new truck delivery

Welcome to the era of backorders and incredibly long lead times. There's nothing to investigate; Toyota is getting them from suppliers as quickly as possible (but like all commodities, not quickly enough) and prioritizing them for new trucks to sell. The profit off a new truck is better than the profit off a replacement windshield, so if they have to choose between the two, they choose a new truck to put it in.

True, PPG are good windshields, the Toyota one is probably not the cheapest. I bet it is made by one of the better glass companies. It will suck to lose the Toyota Trucks easter egg but so does waiting 2 years to get a Toyota glass.

So your truck had a single problem, that was fixed under warranty. Then later the dealership wasn’t able to replace a wind shield due to supply shortages?

typical entitled "Lifelong" Toyota owner who thinks they are owed something and cannot be bothered with first year production and covid issues. Not even a Pro or Capstone owner at that.

Toyota has about the cheapest windshields that I have seen. When I got my Tundra new I could see waves in the glass. I got a rock chip that started to crack across the windshield and it had to be replaced. The wavy lines are gone in the new PPG windshield. If this is the only thing that one has to worry about then life is pretty good.
