    Hello all,
My 2011 has 73K miles on it now, it’s almost time to replace the brake pads and resurface the rotors or replace. I tow a lawn care trailer regularly. More stopping power over oem would be a plus but not required. What pads/rotors do you all use and recommend?
    Thanks!

Stoptech cryogenic treated slotted rotors and EBC yellow pads, no regrets. About $600 iirc. DIY

I’ve used Autozone pads/rotors, OEM and high speed cryo’d, slotted stuff from stoptech w/ anti-judder “towing” pads.

I drive normal and tow 4500-5000k lbs occasionally.

Some dusted more than others. All lasted/performed about the same. You do you, but lot of snake oil out there in the brakes world.

I simply ordered fresh Toyota stuff a couple years back when the system needed a refresh. Was a little over $400 for rotors, pads, and hardware kit for front and rear.

They are still performing great, and I expect that to continue... Unless I stop using driving style to make things easier on my brakes. We do a lot of mountain driving, so using the correct gear helps a ton.

Just like tires, choices in brake pads have a trade-off between grip and longevity. Really grippy pads (EBC, stoptech, etc.) produce more braking force, but these pads wear down themselves and your rotors much more quickly because they're much more abrasive. If you add slotted and/or cross-drilled rotors to the mix you increase brake performance further, but also further decrease your pad and rotor service life. I installed a stoptech pad and slotted rotor kit that needed new rotors with every 2nd pad change which occurred twice as often as my wife's van with OEM rotors and pads.

If original braking performance meets your needs then keep your OEM rotors and use Thermoquiet brake pads. They provide reliable brake performance with excellent service life. They're also very easy on your rotors so you don't have to have them replaced or resurfaced when you do change the pads.

My 08 CM came with drilled and slotted and I bought it and went up north to move my mom down south . The brakes worked beyond anything oem would have done I've looked at power stop when I'm due to replace . I'll be looking about 500 rotors and pads .

I installed this kit 2 years ago on mine. I tow a 26' travel trailer, and this kit does the job very well! Since you tow, you might consider it.

I used Advics from rock auto, identical to the OEM ones that came off of the truck for way less than dealer pricing. I reused the factory shims though, the aftermarket shims that came with the Advics seemed like junk (I used them on the rear, the squeaked). I just did a little write up on this on my site.

    Here's the part numbers:
    • Advics AD1303 - Front Brake Pads
    • Advics AD1304 - Rear Brake Pads
    • Advics A6F048 - Front Rotor X2
    • Advics A6R049 - Rear Rotor X2

Just remember to check your calipers. I had to rebuild them due to one boot was completely torn. I think I paid like 14 bucks for the rebuild kit from Toyota, and it came with the grease and everything you needed to do them. It's not a hard job and if you can change the pads you can rebuild the calipers.

i read a couple accounts about the holes & slots in drilled & slotted rotors filling with dust/dirt/rocks et cetera when wheeling and wearing out brake pads faster than usual. think there's any truth to this? we head out to the dirt roads of the southern california deserts at least once a month, sometimes there's mud after rains. what are your thoughts?

i've always stuck to centric premium rotors and hawk hp5 (i think) pads and have had good luck. but i carry a bit more weight in my tundra with 35s these days especially on camping trips like everyone else and their mother on instagram and would like a little more power over that setup. it's time for new brakes...

I run Centric Premium rotors and Bosch Quietcast ceramic pads they feel much better than stock. However, I noticed the biggest improvement with Stoptech steel lines and fresh fluid.

Red calipers? Hard pass. And I don’t really feel like machining tabs or doing any extra work

Aren't these supposed to increase the brake pressure?

They will minimize loss of pressure that occurs when the factory lines expand under pressure. Not much, but I like tinkering and it could be just enough when it really counts. That and I keep vehicles for decades, so....

These look like a good option, from auto anything.

Now to decide on pads... OEM TRD or EBC Yellow or ____?
