This is one of the most important items to protect the electronics in your Bigfoot. There are numerous makes and models and I purchased the Southwire 44260 30-amp surge protector directly from my RV dealer.

I haven't gotten one yet, we run on our solar power for the most part, but I should get on just in case.

Do any Canadians actually work at Whistler? Every single person I have met is from Australia. It’s wild!

You have me reconsidering my purchase. I really like the automatic shutdown and smartphone monitoring offered by the surge protector you're looking at.

Nope. Canadians can't afford to live in Whistler working for minimum wage and don't want to live in hostels like the Aussies and Kiwis.

I just ordered a Progressive Dynamics 30 amp unit. We are heading out for a week of cold camping (electric heater running) on Wednesday so better to be safe when running off the power pole.

Here's a query, specifically anyone driving through the KW / Cambridge area on the 401.

twice in the past week, I was driving through on the 401 - once in each direction and in the same spot each time (401 at Homer Watson blvd), the bluetooth started to cut in and out intermittently, and i had to stop using it & restart / disconnect & reconnect to fix it. Anyone else have this. I only mention it because its weird that the exact thing happened at the exact spot twice, and didn't happen again anywhere else? Just wondering if there is something in the area that interferes, although it shouldnt!

Bluetooth interference is super rare, but happens. Can you pinpoint the exact spot on Google maps where it usually cut out?

A quick look at Google maps shows a Polytechnic in the area. If it's going off every time you pass the school it's worth a report to the CRTC. Someone might be messing with the 2.4 band with high power and that can be dangerous. But I'm really jumping the gun.

Yeah tks, that was one of my thoughts / concerns as I know there is the school right there. Pinpointing would be easy, as it happened travelling in either direction & at about 200m from the overpass. To be clear, I was Bluetooth connected & playing Spotify from a downloaded playlist, so not a streaming issue. The sound just kept cutting out, But I'm not through there often enough to track it reliably. I haven't been that way in over a month and am not always using my Bluetooth for music either. That's why I thought Id put it out here and see if anyone else experienced it.

    Nice. Enjoying the new role?

I'm good. Little AK is keeping me busy but work gives me a ridiculous amount of time off which I happily put to good use.

Since you bring up security bolts.... Is he offering a true security bolt, or a standard off the shelf Torx bit that you can get off the shelf at home depot. Maybe not be a apples to apples comparison to our security bolts.

IMHO, I consider our Allen head bolts just as secure as what most call security bolts. The bits for an Allen head bolt and a torx bolt are literally next to each other at home depot. Is a Torx a little less common then the Allen head bits... maybe.. just depends on what you are around.

Our security bolts are a true security bit. You can really only source the bit from us, or our supplier if you look for them, but they have MIN order charges so access is not easy. It is not something you will find off the shelf at a local store, and we are kind of a jerk in that we don't see them to anyone except people who buy plates from us.

The only reason we don't offer Torx bits instead of our allen head bits, is some of the larger sizes we use are impossible to find. We could adjust our hardware offering to work with torx bolts, but I feel our current setup with the lock nuts on the back side of the plate add even more security, requiring every more tools to remove out plate.

For the most part, I tell 99% of our customers if you are worried about the theft of opportunity of getting hit at the mall, movie theater or grocery store, security bolts are completely unnecessary. If you park at a local park and ride, where a thief knows your truck is there every day from 8 am to 5 pm they might try to come back with the correct tools to remove it... but for the most part we have not seen this happen either.

Yes, this might have struck a nerve with me based on some other interactions I have had with other competitors. Truthfully, I am super happy there is finally a Canadian supplier. We have been back and forth on continuing to ship to Canada, but we love to support you all up north!

I appreciate the information and your openness. It's a big reason why you're my go to if I can't make it work with Asylum in my timeframe. Us Canucks really appreciate companies willing to deal with us. If only shipping wasn't so damned expensive, I think the market would open up to a ton more products.

As for security bolts themselves, I park in the driveway for half the year so I personally like the extra peace of mind a security bolt offers. It will reduce the odds of someone initially trying a grab of opportunity, seeing a standard bolt then coming back with an allen or torx bit the next night.

This is the image Asyulm posted on his site showing his security bolts.

They are actually using the same brand that I am, so that's good stuff. That also explains why they have their price closer to mine using the 3/16 aluminum vs my 1/4".

Those security bolts and bits are not cheap by any means.
