I was recently given highlander hybrid rental when dealer damaged my Tundra on their lot.

The Highland hybrid throttle feel and driving around town just feels 10x better and more pleasing than what my non-hybrid Tundra does.

I’m only talking tundra to tundra

I just bought a 25th anniversary awd sienna for the wife which is a hybrid and it gets 35 city, which is amazing and the sienna is no lightweight, it has a higher payload than my tundra lol

but in the tundra application I expect more , like a feature like the generator for the 3400 bucks and loss of storage and added weight and complexity

Yeah that was a huge miss on Toyota’s part. Even the non-hybrid F150 has an option of 2000 watt ProPower. Heck I ran a heat gun from mine last weekend.

So I never had a chance to test drive hybrid Tundra.

I did drive hybrid highlander and assume that hybrid Tundra will drive similar-ish? That is quick on take off and no lag whatsoever.

Can anyone who drove Tundra hybrid confirm please?

My point is that hybrid Tundra drives so much smoother and pleasant than non-hybrid Tundra.

So, breathing Borla, you may want to get Tundra hybrid regardless if you test drive one and compare it to non hybrid. I'm assuming you didn't test drive hybrid Tundra?

I have owned a few Toyota camry hybrids.

This trucks hybrid is a joke imo, you gain xyz hp/trq but also gain 0 mpg, the nimh battery is a poor choice

Had this hybrid continued to be developed by both Ford and yota, I'd be way more interested in the lighter 1.5kwh li ion battery and 2.4kwh/7.2kwh built in generator and mpg increases the Ford offers versus tundra ancient brick 1.9kwh ni mh battery

Also dunno where you live but hybrid rarely works in the cold, my Camry gets 44mpg+ in warm weather, 33 when it's not warm, when it's cold fall/winter the hybrid rarely kicks in even after cruising on freeway for 10-15mins (I usually can go full ev coming off freeway offramp and last 2 miles or so) so for like 1/3 of the year my hybrid camry automatically gets non-hybrid mpg.

Also see the post from the person who went to a 34" tire and immediately went down to under 33" because the hybrid engaged so rarely he went back like the next day or 2 to swap tires

Imo Toyota pioneered the hybrid mainstream with the Prius, but their first hybrid 1/2 ton is seriously a afterthought/joke vs the powerboost. It's even more sad when you find out that system was joint developed by yota and Ford.

2.4 kwh inverter is good idea in theory but I hope you guys realize, It'll take years of life out of your batteries. You are also risking overloading, overheating the components.

Who cares. My truck is a tool and I use it as such.

But also you’re wrong about it “taking years off your battery life”.

Sure, but some people are 1) good with tools and 2) others are not.
The trade in resale value of the truck for the people in group 2 is much lower. 8^0

The tax loss alone would make me not worth it to me. At 11k, you can make quite a few upgrades that will make your truck nicer to ride, get bigger sidewall tires, swap out leather etc. Money much better spent than giving it to bureaucrats and dealership rats. Also, why do you think getting a hybrid limited would solve those issues for you?

Yeah, I'm not crazy to burn money like that..

Hybrid would probably solve the sucky throttle issue, and limited softex seats are softer than the 1794 park bench leather edition I have now...

The Tundra Hybrid is not going to be like the Camry/Prius/Highlander where the hybrid/electric motor gets you to 20 mph starting off the line. Kinda upset it doesn't, and haven't driven the Powerboost to compare but from most reports the PB gets much better mileage for a variety of reasons including this one.

But the Tundra Hybrid does give plenty of power, eliminating any lag for the turbos, though minimal, does exist in Toyota and Ford. I still believe Toyota missed the boat and should have made the electric motor bigger so it engages more. I know a plug in hybrid wouldn't be popular with everyone, but it certainly would be better to even get the first 10-15 miles in electric before switching to hybrid.

Honestly, I enjoy the hybrid system in the Tundra. My limited hybrid is lifted (3" TRD Lift) on 34.6 inch nitto recon grapplers (E rated tires) and my MPG is 1-1.5 lower than stock. Before the lift/tires, I was averaging 19 MPG mixed city/highway driving and now averaging 17.5 - 18 mpg post lift/tires. Majority of my driving is on back roads (55 mph speed limit) with some city mixed in. The hybrid system still kicks in quite a bit although less than before the lift/tires. I find it useful while sitting in the car rider line dropping/picking my kids up that my heat/AC is still running (Truck is still on) and can creep up all in electric mode. Gas motor doesnt kick on until I hit the main road (30+ minutes of sitting in the car rider line). Also in bumper to bumper traffic the truck will run in electric mode for quite awhile.

I frequently tow a 5,500 lb fiberglass bass boat. Compared to my dads 22 SR5 non hybrid, the hybrid does a great job providing the extra tq down low. His non hybrid will downshift frequently on hills. The hybrid delivers low end tq similar to a diesel. I have a Ram TRX and this may sound crazy, but I prefer the power delivery of the hybrid tundra when towing the bass boat.

Just my 2 cents. Pic below of the TRX and Tundra. Both awesome vehicles.

I bought this truck because of the hybrid power train. I love the fact that it’s tuned for power and smoothness. This made my transition from diesel trucks back to a gas trucks much easier because there is smooth power all over the place.

Absolutely worth it. Hopefully the 24 TRX returns with the hellcat engine. There have been rumors floating around the TRX forums that next years TRX might be powered by an inline twin turbo. They closed the 23 order books several months early this year (mid February).

I highly recommend Dan Cummins out of Lexington KY if you plan to order. Miles Goff was my salesman. At the time of ordering, I got 12k off MSRP (original MSRP at the time of ordering was 98k). RAM had a price increase so at the time of delivery (early March), the MSRP was $102,560 with price increases however I was price protected at $86k and some change. Basically I bought the TRX at $16k under MSRP.

Mark Dodge, Koons and Granger dealerships also offer below MSRP orders on the TRX.

Yeah I have been talking with granger. I submitted my order 2 days after the random book close for 2023. So I missed out. Was hoping 2024 was just one more of the v8

Absolutely but this isn't a Milwaukee tool, You swap out to a new battery on the fly when ur old battery can't hold a charge. A degraded hybrid battery will mean you will very rarely switch to EV mode and your power output for the engine and the inverter will be affected.

I'm considering selling my 2022 SR5 dc 6.5 TRD OR that is nicely optioned and with just over 2k miles. The local Toyota dealership has no Tundra inventory so that may help me get a bit more out of it. I sold my Eco Diesel Gladiator for nearly what I paid for it last July. Probably won't be as lucky this time.

I’m trading my 23 platinum hybrid in next week and I’m getting more than I paid. But I’ve also added ceramic tint and front PPF which I’ll lose
