Anyone else waiting 6 months for a second fob?

Called my dealer recently to check up on this and he said I can expect it sometime in April. Not exactly holding my breath, but fingers are crossed. He did sound genuinely excited to be able to share good news, and not like he was just giving a canned response to a common question.

 

I got my 2023 in late Feb and only one fob- salesmen couldn’t even find the key. It was supposed to come with a second key and the fob would arrive later.

 

Purchased my 2023 in early Feb and still no key. Salesmen said anywhere from 2 weeks to a few months.

 

The fob cost me $290 + tax. It came with the battery and a blank key. Told them I had a cut key, they said cost included battery & key, comes as a unit from Toyota not individual.

My dealer normally charges $180 + tax to program the fob & cut the key. Because I purchased the fob from them & the lack of co-opt from Toyota, they gave me a break on the programing.

Going out of state (with family) with 2 fobs vs 1 was worth the cost to me.

 

The lady I talked to at Toyota was adamant they would not mail a fob, just a letter to take to my dealership from a free fob. I told her several times I was told a fob would be sent. She apologized for them telling me that as it was incorrect information. Letter only, 1st class mail “this summer”. When I tried for a better time period, like july or aug, she repeated, this summer.

 

Yea I was told it would arrive as a recall letter to get a fob

 

I understand that my pot of money is being transferred to the dealer who has paid for both the truck and the extra key with their pot of money. 2 keys is not too much to ask. Give the dealer a spare key when they come in and I’ll take the one they have on hand now.

 

i guess we have a different outlook on fobs in our house.

my 2nd fob for the 4runner is sitting on a key hook in the kitchen since day 1. my wife has only driven the 4runner like twice in the 9 yrs ive had it and that was the only time we needed 2 fobs.

same goes for my sons car. his spare fob is sitting next to my 4runner and he hasnt lived in the house for about 2 yrs on top of not needing it since he bought the car. ive used the spare fob 1 time when he needed an oil change and he couldnt get an appointment on saturday to get an oil change so i took it in on my friday off day.

 

I think your missing our point. Should anything happen to your fob that disables it (damage, lost, etc) your wife could bring you the second fob or overnight it to you should you be out of town or state.

In our case our vehicles become a $60k+ of metal setting in the parking lot. The dealership needs the vehicle + fob to program another fob.

 

I got my TRD Pro 3 months ago and still only one fob. Not holding my breath but hoping when I take it in for its 6 month service they will have my fob and be able to update my dash display so it does not go blank again.

 

has anyone tried the "guest mode share remote" in the app ?

 

Well I was told before I put a dollar in the dealers hand that there was only one fob, they gave me the option to not purchase the truck. So it is on me, I accepted the terms as did most folks, could’ve walked away as could many folks. I was told they had no ETA at all. I was told I will eventually get a letter and can take it to any dealer. As far as buying accessories, well I hate to be a dk but if someone buys something and accepts it isn’t available well…on you man. I would have walked away or asked them to remove it from the deal. Cant complain about accepting the terms. At least all the features on my truck worked as I drove off…unlike many trucks I looked at.

 

So since this started, has anyone actually received a second fob from Toyota?

 

Respectfully disagree. Dealer sold the truck promising two Key FOB's. I signed paperwork they owe a Key FOB. Contract. Now five months. Last word from Toyota is this summer.

 

I was told call them back in 30 days, picked up 1-24-23. They should have the second FOB. The dealer has called me in the fourth week and given update. Though update is still no clue when.

 

And your contract stated when you will receive the fob? If it doesn't then you have nothing to disagree with, if you signed a contract only stating they will get you one, not when then Im sure of what breach they have. Same as me, I know they never stated nor put in writing when…if you drive it out then you live by the terms.

 

Well, again, we will have to disagree here. Toyota is selling new vehicles fully equipped at the expense of other customers. While the key fob is a small item in the scheme - it still was promised and if needed, will stand in court. The FOB's are available via Toyota parts at $400 dollars even if you show your owed a FOB.

Really, today's logistics and computers, pretty simple to pull the VIN and show you are owed a FOB. You get it and the dealership can push the cost back to Toyota NA or whom-ever owns the line item.

 

lol, you do realize the truck had a sticker on it that stated 2nd fob was forthcoming. not much of a fight you can win on that since you accepted the sticker.

 

And there should be an expected but reasonable amount of time.
Thats why I was curious about when the campain like this started and how long some have waited to receive theres.
A bit fustrating when you just dont know.

 

I bet if you were willing to walk from the deal over the fob they would produce a second one for you from the parts dept. The art of the deal, be willing to walk away.

 

Took delivery of my 23 TRD Pro yesterday. I can confirm, they are still only issuing one key.

Yea they probably have like 5-10 max. Probably selling selling more cars/trucks then that a week maybe in a day at some places.

I'm glad they are still promising them and didn't just say you only get one....


Just out of curiosity other then the sticker saying another one is coming from a contract position where are people actually seeing that trucks come with 2 keys. Its not on the window sticker or anything. I trust them to get me the key at some point. However I just don't see where everyone that says they are required to provide two keys is coming from.

 

My truck had a small white window label, apparently from the factory stating a second fob would later be issued.

 

Mine had several on hand. Paid retail for it but got a break at svc dept for programming it.

 

2 keys are not stated in any paperwork, its just a given with new vehicles. dealer is suppose to provide you with whatever the factory sends along on a new vehicle.

 

I have three drivers in my house. A second key for a $75k truck is not asking too much.

 

Mine had a sticker as well. Still waiting since last December. When I was in for the 5K the dealer said I'd "be getting a letter in mail in 2 weeks" addressing it. I knew it was bull-$$, still waiting.

 

but you only need 1 fob to actually drive the vehicle. i know the wife keeps the fob in her purse while i drive, so i really dont need to carry a fob with me.

 

They’ve got you. That’s the game. Slowly lower everyone’s expectations until we’re happy with whatever they tell us we can have.
