I declare everything, but I also do what I can to only buy stuff that falls under USMCA. That generally only means I end up paying 5% GST on my stuff (another reason Alberta is the best).

Good question. We align our US purchases with planned trips across the border. We buy the items at cheaper prices and reduced shipping costs to a US destination (Pembina, ND, parcel service) and we can each bring back $800 duty and tax free.

How you liking your new tundy anyway.

so my front bumper from CBI just arrived and I can’t believe I didn’t get charged custom fees.
The shipping price was decent glad it worked out. Not sure how I lucked out but I ain’t complaining.

I'm loving it. No real issues. The only two minor things are a piece of trim on the rear passenger window popped loose and there's a clicking sound coming from somewhere near the headliner when it's cold. Another member in Edmonton was able to have that fixed so I passed it on to my service advisor and both things are going to be dealt with at my first oil change appointment. I've owned the truck since last August and only just turned over 6000kms. LOL

You probably didn't get charged custom fees due to the bumper being made in the USA. That puts it under the USMCA act, formerly known as NAFTA.

The white looks pretty. Still the slowest color though, except on 1st Gens where it's the fastest color. The fastest 3rd Gen color is MGM.

I sold the '05 to my dad in BC with the caveat that I get first dibs if/when he decides to sell it. It stays in the family. :)

White stopped being the fastest color with the 3rd Gens came out in MGM. Fact.

White is fast. Fact. MGM is fastest. Fact. ;)

That's great that your son gets to learn on that old truck. I wish I still had the '94 I bought as my first vehicle.

You might not be out of the woods yet. I bought a Valhalla’s Shield aluminum cat plate (made in USA) and it was delivered on 22 Dec 2022. The bill for GST, PST, disbursement fee, and clearance entry fee followed on 16 Jan 2023. The tax man knoweth.

Shipped via UPS or FedEx? Those couriers are notorious for their bullshit "brokerage fees", where they charge the tax and duty the deem it's worth plus a bunch of other crap. I never ship cross border unless it's via USPS who hands off directly to CanadaPost.

You can get a US address ‘warehouse’ in a border town & pay a flat fee per package to pick up ($5 - $15 in general) I looked into it as Port Huron is just over an hour away. But for many things, when I look at the exchange rate & the cost of driving there & back to get it- most ‘deals’ aren’t really deals at all. The cost in Canada is cheaper than the store price in the US, and I can get it around the corner. Not everything, but many things. I can’t recall if the cbi bumper or rci skids were the exception, significantly cheaper in the states.

i chatted to a guy in Sarnia who said, unofficially if you do a day trip & aren’t over $250, claiming it they ‘often’ don’t care. Just don’t try to not claim, that will cost you!

so far, I’ve bought my stuff from Canadian sources or Amazon Canada. One thing was more $$ but less then $50 more but I didn’t have to worry about surprise brokerage fees to have it shipped, or the fear of duty as it was ‘manufactured’ in china not USA. So for ease, worth it

For the record, there was a reason Cement color was dropped from the latest gen. It was complaints from the insurance industry and it had nothing to do with speed. Too many people turning heads and crashing into things while saying daaaam! Costed the Canadian industry tens of dollars.

This is also fact. I've seen the scientific study commissioned by the insurance company that supports this. Cement is sexy.

There was many sciences and studies in the study. Very complete. They even posted it on the internet but took it down because the views were costing too much.

I'm interested to hear your feedback on the Tufskinz items as the quality looks really good. I'd really like to get the centre console overlay as I've heard the console scuffs up easily but I'm still trying the digest the $99.99 USD price tag.

    Adding to the list:

I went with Black Armor for my bed mat. They have a Canadian warehouse and charged in CAD. I waited until they had a free shipping promo and it worked out to be about $100 more than the Toyota OEM mat for one that's 1/4" thicker and looks nicer imho.

There's a new guy on the cat shield scene in Edmonton, his company is called Asylum Dezyns. His CAD pricing is roughly the same as it would cost for a Talon shield shipped to a receiving depot and self-imported. I have no personal experience with him though I am planning to reach out to him when I figure out when our next trip to Edmonton is. He had been saying he had a 4 - 6 week lead time.

I never did the math, but I was really thinking he was going to be significantly cheaper then me once shipping set in.

I’m not sure what the importer costs, but we do ship direct to Canada. If you want send us a email for a quote. Canada shipping is not cheep but I would imagine that would be a cheaper than an importer.

He's $550 CAD including security bolts. You come in at $525 CAD without security bolts, shipped to a package receiving depot in Sumas, WA which charges me $15 -$20 CAD, then I pay 5% tax when I bring it across the line myself. If I'm unable to make something work with him, I'll be going with your plate as I'll be just across the line from Sumas in July making it easy to pick up.

Shipping to Canada via UPS or Fedex is pretty much a nonstarter as they charge ludicrous brokerage fees based on weight and value on top of the shipping rate. I've had packages worth $50 get hit with another $40+ in brokerage fees. USPS is the only economical way to ship to Canada as they hand off directly to Canada post. I don't know if you can ship something like a cat shield that way though. I also live so far from the border, that it adds on to shipping fees quite a bit.

My Nfab bumper, Eibach coilovers, DD fogs and RC light bar, are all waiting for the shop to receive the OEM replacement Grille/surround....from our Oct 2022 deer strike.

It's going on 5 months wait now for the OEM grille surround. Crazy.
