1st gens to Sedona 2023!!!

Him and I have been talking a bit about getting together sometime as my truck need a suspension overhaul and he claims his truck rides better than most vehicles of it's age.

Granted, he's probably got $5k in suspension mods, but I still need to ride in a truck that's been well-cared for into order to compare against mine.

 

Are there any places in Munds Park to restock food/beer or do you have to rattle your teeth for 12 miles on Schnebly into Sedona? I see they have a Whole Paycheck if we get desperate for groceries.

 

Yeah munds park has a gas station or two for beer and ice.
Also mother road brewery in flag is dog friendly, lumber jack isnt. MR had some good food too. There’s a bbq joint in munds that’s fantastic to but only open Friday thru Sunday I think

 

I’m sure air will be abundant!

Schnebly Hill Rd is incredibly slow going. It would take probably half the time to drive the whole way into Flagstaff or down to Camp Verde.

Nearest "grocery" is a Dollar General in Kachina, nearest real grocer is the Basha's and Walmart on Woodlands in Flagstaff.

Agee's BBQ is the spot in Munds Park.

Munds Park General Store serves the RV Park on the west side of the Highway. Not sure what all they've got in there.

 

Another fun fact: Munds Park has a Mountain Lion Mama who's been raising her cubs in the community. Probably living under someone's porch or something.

 

If you participate in the official trail runs, they don't really end at camp when they are over. Once the run is over at the trailhead, people split up and make their own way back or do whatever. That's a good chance to stock up on stuff if your trail run is close to a store.

 

And possibly hazy…

 

Doubt it. Not this year at least. The forest is soggy. Oak Creek and the Verde are flooding.

It would require pretty much no more moisture and tons of wind until the end of the April to get us to fire conditions.

Yes. Or, better yet, stay on the freeway to the Schnebly Hill exit. Drive to camp fully aired up. Set up camp. Later you can air down to head down Schnebly. There's a beautiful lookout where you can watch the sunset; then, in my opinion, head back to camp.

Plenty of your buddies have on-board air and we'll help air you up.

I hate the Schnebly Hill. I firmly believe you should never do it alone because, as it is, trail buddies will drag you up or down it at some point. No reason to experience it more times than required by peer pressure.

 

Be advised, the T2S trail run groups are *supposed* to stay together all the way back to camp. Obviously this hasn't happened consistently because


If a group is comprised of people that all know and like each other, it's easier because everyone wants to hang out together. But, like, I led a group on Smiley Rock that didn't know each other, in 2021, and a couple of the trucks were planning to leave for home in directions away from camp. All adults, so there wasn't anything I could do to keep people from doing what they wanted. I don't know where the organizers are on this now, but it was a "thing" in 2021.

 

My radio showed up and i've been able to work the light, the alarm, and tune into the closest noaa frequency.

 

So I don't see any other reasonable way to get to the coordinates than 17 to Schnebly.

I'm confused. Are yall talking about a section passed camp?? I assure you I have no plans to go beyond camp until I'm set up.

My concern is whether or not yall are saying the road from the highway to camp is sooo fucked. Cuz thats how it's coming off in my mind. In which case I'd just air down and put it in 4lo

 

I think they are saying the section from the interstate to the campsite is fine but west of the campsite the road is rough. Based on Sunny's comments it's possibly really rough?

You can take it all the way to Sedona but it would be a long journey.

 

The road to camp is perfectly fine to drive subi’s and rollas down. Just get to camp and then let the shenanigans begin

Yall mufukas need to specify Schnebly Hill and Schnebly Hill Road for us outsiders if yall gonna be dramatic about this hill

 

Nope, well graded dirt fire road without a lot of rocks, between the freeway and camp. BUT our local guy that's joined the conversation keeps emphasizing that it's muddy now. So mud could be a problem on that stretch. Haven't seen it before, so I can't anticipate how bad it may be.

 

If I know AZ as well as I tell myself I do, I bet it will be perfect when we get there. Maybe some dust relief if it’s still a hair sticky.

 

I saw on the Gram today that Sedona got more snow today than they have years. That could be contributing to the mud. We have a month for conditions to improve though.

 

I thought we were going to be in a mix of desert and light woods. I didn't think AZ even got rain lol

 

We’ve had a awesome wet winter, which should lead to a fantastic fire season! But seriously, be careful with fire.

We deal with a rainy winter every year in TX, which is the best time to wheel IMHO because less chance of overheating and I sleep better when I'm not hot. Ideally fall thru spring with dry trails, but we get used to the mud. As long as camp isn't muddy. That always sucks.
