Ok, so you're saying the rear defrost is essentially always on for you at those temps? My bad, my brain is all over the place right now.

No worries. Pretty sure. There isn't always snow or ice on the back, but when there is I can see it defrosting. Apart from shutting off when I open the doors, I have been pleased with how the climate controls work.

Alright... Time to get my Flir cam out to see what's what. I also feel that the heated seats and steering dont actually heat up on remote start. and my settings are what is suggested above. the flir cam should be able to see if defrost is on too.

lol, ok Ill hold out hope, but not hold my breath toyota will add this in Q3.

it would help their case for the upcharge for the app if you can have full control of the climate stuff as well

next time you bump into said person, tell them we said, make it happen, or forget your 15 bucks a month bullshit for nothing app fee, HA!

while they are at it, turn off that bullshit deal of the truck turning off when you open the door.

this times 100 over climate control. Also Toyota corporate customer service please quit saying “we are forced to do this due to government regulations”. Also BS. It’s insulting. They just have a poor implementation to meet requirements / However ford, gm, Honda and i’m sure others have figured out how to keep the vehicle running.

so has the aftermarket, my 16 tundra with a viper stays on and also has valet mode where I can take out the key and leave it running also if I’m running into store or whatever. Also has 1 mile radius and two way coms

no reason Toyota can’t figure this out.

they did have remote start plus for a while on some vehicles but I don’t know whatever happened to that

Thought I read a little while back that Toyota does or plans to charge a monthly subscription fee to remote start from the app. Did that ever happen? Pure BS if so.

I love my Tundra. Which makes this type of issue a bit maddening.

I bought a new Subaru Legacy in 2021. It has a super functional remote start and app. You can control & set the climate functions from the app, turn on front and rear defrost, seats, etc. No subscription nor fees. And here is the really slick part——the car doesn’t shut down when you open the door to get in.

If Subaru can figure this out, you’d think two years later Toyota should have it nailed. But no.

Goodness I hope someone from Toyota reads this. If so, please just go copy Subaru.

from what i have seen posted, if you use custom mode and set engine to performance and trans to sport, it wont go into start stop mode. but i havent tried that. SS mode only has happened once since feb-22 putting it into park.

ive been dealing with it in my 2014 4runner with remote start that shuts off everytime i open the door. still have everything oem except the 3 diff fluid, coolant fluid.

nothing has failed or replaced related to remote starting/shutting off in 9yrs.

on my 3rd battery though, winters up here tend to eat thru them in the negative temps for weeks on end we get sitting outside at work :)

I really came to appreciate this feature the day my wife dropped me off somewhere and drove off while I had the fob. It would seem that you don’t need the fob to operate these vehicles once they’re started.

agreed. it is an inconvenience indeed, but a minor one at that. Do hope they can get around to pushing up an ECU update to existing tundras in the future and improve upon it.

not sure what your talking about here? I was talking about the climate control via remote start that he was discussing the release notes of, not anything to do with start stop, that just gets shut off with the button on the dash, done

Is there any update to this overall discussion (not the job referral part)? It's been a year since the last real update and there was supposed to be some enhancement in Q3 (of 2023)? Yes, some bug fixes in the app and layout change were completed...

Seems our "in the know" folks have disappeared, but I'm curious if anyone else knows someone that would know if the app will ever allow climate control settings for 3rd gens Tundras? Or support digital key for that matter, as I remember seeing that was supposedly going to happen like a year ago already?

I would just move on like it isn't going to happen, nobody's info here is worth shit anyways as far as future updates and products.

that said, I think if that's ever going to happen, it would happen during the mid cycle refresh 2026

I sold my Tundra and got a Land Cruiser, so havent really been checking this forum or looking at the Tundra dev pipeline - I also moved teams so I'm not as connected to the in-car folks anymore.

My LC supports climate controls in app, as well as digital key, I had assumed these would be added to Tundra as well, but who knows when that's gonna happen.

are those systems related or required to have TSS 3.0? if so, that could be the limiting factor

nope, TSS version doesn't matter for in-car features like climate control or digital key. They're completely unrelated systems.

    ok, thanks for the info.

my guess is either during the 2026 refresh or not at all then.

My wife wants a new LC, but that doesn't help me!!! She gets the garage and works from home, so I can't remember the last time she had to clear a window lol.

I wouldn't be surprised if the next refresh gets the capability, but I assume it will be limited to that model year and above. I also assume that decision will be 100% arbitrary.
