They are basically all the same design. I think Talon worked with Vahalla at one time but split out on their own. Definitely sounds like they've got things figured out. I think they have a thread somewhere on this site.

I believe the Desert Eagle guy was building these things before there was a big problem with the thievery. Nice guy, quality product and he's old school. It comes in black, that's all. Here's a link to Talon's website: https://www.talonsgarage.com

@Talon2006 has been doing a great job. Has supported the forum and you should not have issues ordering from them. They tend to have plates on hand and ready to ship instead of building to order, so that helps with turn around time.

Nice to see more options. I will check the Talon and Desert Eagle both. Thanks for the info! Hopefully Paypal can wrap this up sooner than later.

We generally will if you send a message.

Canada shipping Varys a bunch so we have to do a specific quote for each order.

I will say it’s not cheap. There is another vendor in Canada who is offering these shields though, so that might be a better option if costs are a factor.

I don’t think she needs a rear plate because she has a 4x4.

I have a 4x4 and definitely wanted to cover the rears too. They cut your rears out and you are still months without a truck

Do we know of anyone who has had their rear cats cut out because they only had a front plate? I still don't see how someone can get a tool like a battery powered reciprocating knife *in front* of the rear cats to make the cut.

Full disclosure: I have a VS rear plate that I've never installed. Might just sell it. :notsure:

Mine don’t look that easy to access. They could make a cut where they are exposed but looks like it’d be more trouble than it’s worth to try to get under the plate to be able to make the second cut. As a former malcontent from the mean streets of Northern Michigan, I’d be moving on.

@Terndrerrr and @TaquitoBandito i haven't, but we have had 2 folks report their rear bolts were loosened or removed. I do agree that logically, you should be protected with just a front. But I wasn't willing to risk it.

I can't remember how far you live from the border, but shipping to a package receiving depot is the best way to get stuff from the US.

However, there's a new player on the scene based out of Edmonton called Asylum Dezyns. He didn't have the post count to advertise here yet, so I'm hoping he can sort that out soon. https://asylumdezyns.com/

Talon was my plan to get shields but like you, the shipping cost was prohibitive and I'm 12+ hours one way from the border. I'm 4 hours from Edmonton so I'm hoping to give Asylum a try as I should be able to make the transaction in person.

I had a cat plate from Desert Eagle previously. I sold it and my RCI front skid to one of my local Tundra buddies so I could put VS plates on.

I have a front engine skid and front cat plate from VS installed. I *thought* that it would be easier to mount the plates without tearing my forearms up trying to reach the nuts on top of the cross member. That was always frustrating and painful every time I had to do it with the RCI/DE combo. A major part of the motivation for me switching to VS was that I read from Tyler and others on here that it's easier to reach those. It's really not at all. Lol. It still just shreds my forearms.

I take my plates off for cleaning, any transmission or TC maintenance, and seasonal applications of Amsoil HD Metal Protector. I need to enlist my 11 year old for this step. Lol.

All that to say, I'm not sure I'm living dangerously with only the front cat plate.

It would be pretty hard to cut the front of a rear cat with a rear plate.

    ijcld7jc_8ec59d3030775173013ddc080f19b89b8bebada8.jpg

But for $150, and having my cats stolen once, I feel better about the rear wall.

The rear cat is worth quite a bit less than the front.
But I doubt meth-head Jimbob knows that.

    On a side note and to say something good about Valhalla shields;
While at work last week my truck alarm app sent me a stage 2 alarm trigger at 3:40 PM.
I looked over the truck when I got off and saw nothing wrong.
If you recall my cats were stolen in this parking lot 11/2021.

Stage 1 is a loud stereo going by, stage 2 means the truck is visibly shaken.
I had 2 stage 2 alerts within 3 minutes of each other when the cats were stolen.

Yesterday I was under the truck fixing my broken Amp Step gear.
I noticed this scratch on my muffler pipe, it's about the same spot they cut when they were stolen.
It could be totally unrelated to the alarm.
It could be someone hit the pipe with a sawzall, the alarm went off, and/or they looked toward the front and saw the shields.

I’m in Calgary so it’s still a good drive south. We used to go to Kalispell as a family every few months but haven’t since covid - otherwise I would just take the truck down and install it at the hotel.

I reached out to Asylum and got on the contact list, but it’s really unclear when they will have it. Honestly I would be happy to support Alberta and drive north a few hours for a good, aluminum product.

UPS claims no responsibility over what happens in their parking lot.
They say they lease the land from the city (which I doubt), and because customers park in it, like 1% of the lot, it's a public lot.
But they are quick to terminate any off-duty employees drinking a beer after work in the lot.

They finally set up a bunch of those mobile cameras and have an off-duty cop sitting in his car..
I don't know if the cameras (or the presence of the cop) do any good, but I usually park close to one of them..

We've had multiple break-ins and cat thefts, as well as entire vehicles stolen over the years..
Although I think some of those stolen vehicles were repos...:eek2::D

I had the HU stolen twice out of my 1994 chevy in 1995.
They stole a nice Kenwood Mask unit, waited until I replaced it and stole it again.

My money is on the security guard.
That really sucks - the last thing you should have to worry about while working is the condition your personal vehicle will be in when you get off work.

I'll be reaching out them next week most likely once I know if we'll be in Edmonton next month. I'd love to support an Alberta company, so I'm hoping they'll have ramped up their production.

Worst case, I'm heading to Abbotsford BC in July so I can order a Talon shield, have it shipped to Sumas, WA and my dad will have it in his garage for me when I get down there. Talon and Asylum are within $100 CAD of each other so it's not too bad.

I just sent him an email to see where he is at with 2 gen Tundras. I'll let you know his reply. If it's reasonable, I'll wait. Otherwise like you I will need to make a run south. Just too many cats getting stolen around here.

Get a battery power camera like a Nest and hide it under your truck while you're at work. Eventually you'll get that MF's mug shot.
