I have a Garmin NUVI 2599LMTHD. Admittedly I like the unit. The one issue is that occasionally I take my Tundra and trailer out of state trailering my car. I am not allowed on Parkways. My issue the 2599LMTHD does not know I am not allowed on Parkways and will plot a course that includes them.

I need a unit that that can fit my needs of cars and Truck with trailers. Believe it or not, I had an old NUVI 360. It had a section where you could tell it you were a) A car, b) a Truck and c) a pedestrian. It was a wonderful feature.

I wrote Garmin and they replied I will need a Dezl product to be able to avoid parkways. The Dezl products are designed for truck drivers. Here is a link to them.

They seem to have a lot of info I do not need. Anyone have experience with the Dezl line? Many people here must tow. Please share your thoughts. Thanks.

No personal experience with either but generally I don’t think this is exactly a “popular” topic anymore.

I remember 10 years ago having a simple Garmin thinking it was the coolest thing in the world. Now everything is done through iPhones and Apple CarPlay. When the manufacturers started integrating GPS into infotainment the need for the external GPS all but died.

I look at a lot of 18 wheelers for work and even now only half or so of them have a big GPS screen stuck on the window. A lot of these guys are using the smart phone. The new big trucks are getting really smart also. I’m sure some have built in navigation.

Garmin surely has noticed this shift in automotive sector but they make most their money in aviation. My dad has had a Garmin unit in his Cessna for over 20 years and upgrades from time to time.

I can’t remember the last time I went on a trip and used an external GPS unit. Has to be at least 4-5 years ago.

I could understand wanting one in the Tundra however. The entune Nav system is not the best thing I have ever used

My truck did not come with a nav system. My wife's came with a factory nav and I hate it.

My phone has a small screen (so it fits in my pocket). I am thinking of a 7 or 8 inch screen. Plus I like certain GPS features.

My friend is a waze lover and thinks I'm nuts. I prefer the GPS. To me its not right or wrong, it's preference.

    Function before sparkle.
It takes a little bit of extra effort before you start your trip, but if you go to Settings > Navigation > Avoidances you should be able to make a custom avoidance of specific roads/Parkways before you start your trip.

Yes that is true. But, lets use my last trip. I started in NY and went to West Virginia. Unless there are only parkways in NY, I might not get them all. Thanks!

Is NY the only state with Parkways? So many Tundra owners tow. I thought this might be an issue for others.
