Hell, I'm still waiting for discounts I was told would happen when I was in my early 20s; wait till you're 25 it'll go down; wait til you're married it'll go down; wait till you're 30 it'll go down; wait till you're 40 it'll go down; nope.... not once was it cheaper at any of those milestones

Anyhow, time to shop around I guess!!!

Went to a local joint a few years ago to watch a band that a friend played bass for. Asked for a bourbon, but the waitress didn't know what they had. She brought JD. Okay, whatever. Next one I asked for a Maker's, and she said they had it. She brought JD. It was a couple bucks more, even though Maker's isn't really 'up', or I wouldn't have said anything. She said the bartender insisted it was Maker's...

BT is definitely 'up' and rare lots of places, even if it's not that expensive; and it's possible they put JD or some other plastic-bottled bull5h!+ in their BT bottles and took the real stuff home with them. In Texas, if they catch you doing it, they'll give you a slap on the wrist; but TABC isn't really watching.

If you want to learn to enjoy bourbon, start with simpler mixed drinks like an Old Fashioned and work your way over to neat. If you want to go straight at it, go with light ice. Neat hits the unaccustomed tongue pretty hard, and over-icing it just waters it down. Definitely go to a swanky joint if you're drinking out, or buy the bottles yourself; or you might find your BT isn't BT at all. Other rare/great bourbons to try: Blanton's (really this is the epitome), Eagle Rare, E.H. Taylor... There are plenty that are great. I love bourbon, but I don't hate on guys who like Pina Coladas or Lemon Drops either.

I do like Old Fashioneds. Just haven't made it up to bourbon on its own yet.

The Makers that this BBQ joint had was also not to my taste but I thought I heard somewhere that there are some "versions" (sorry can't remember the proper term) of Makers that are cheaper and not as good.

 

I mostly drink Forty Creek these days as it's the cheapest whisky that's good enough to drink straight. Interestingly, I can only drink it neat and on the rocks it's terrible.

 

Think I need to shop as well. At a minimum I need to change my agent, as my current agent moved from 2 minutes away to 45 minutes. Years ago when I shopped Allstate was by far the best price. Friends of mine said they were one of the worst when they shopped a year or two ago.

My homeowners and umbrella renew in Sept...that will be my target date.

One of my memorable times with bourbon was at a restaurant on Burbon Street in New Orleans. They had a flight of 3 Bourbons that wishes me back for another one years later.

 

Varies by state maybe? I saw a solid drop in price at 25, but that's the only time. Really clean driving record helps as well.

Bumped up my tire pressure yesterday. Amazing how different the truck drives with 5 more psi. Feels like the truck lost 500lbs.
