Had the first clear night in weeks so I dragged this bad boy out to do some night sky observations. Neighbor decided to let their dog out which is cool but they turn on the flood light, for what reason, don’t know, I guess the dog needs light to shit but after they let the dog back in they leave the light on. So much for having night vision. Got to love people and their high regard for others. o_O4844053E-253F-45F1-B111-B7F3E89A81E3.jpg

The old lady driving a Rav4 in front of me last night who felt the need to slow down to 20 in the 35 zone because she saw a photo radar truck.

Do people think the Cops will send you a check for going under the speed limit?

Technically without reason, the Rav4 could be impeding traffic.

I gave her the high beams but she didn't seem to notice.

Photo radar is done by an independent company most of the time here, not the cops.

In the future you may want to get into the habit of saying, "I utilized the Flash to Pass feature of my vehicle, but unfortunately she was unresponsive"; in lieu of "I gave her the high beams"

You know, just in case you ever get pinched or stopped for road rage or aggressive driving

Fuck photo radar. It's a cowardly cash grab that doesn't actually solve the problem.

I saw one of the photo radar contractors pulling into the gas station yesterday. I flipped him the bird because fuck anyone who would do that job and enable the government's corrupt theft of the public's hard earned money.

So yeah. Photo radar and those complicit in running it make me angry.

Btw, I've never actually gotten a photo radar ticket. I despise it on principle.

Wayyyyy back when photo radar was first started (California of course); a dude gets nailed for a violation; ticket and the accompanying 'photo' was sent to his house (this one was a PD operated device); wife opens ticket and sees her husband driving during the violation; wife also sees his 'passenger seat cover' of the female persuasion, but it's not her; she confronts him and subsequently ends up filing for divorce after he lied about the incident (dumbass didn't know she already had the evidence); he later sued the PD for a 4th Amendment Violation stating that he had a reasonable expectation of privacy in his own vehicle and the photo revealed some shit that normally would not have been seen

    He lost that one!!!!!

I had been in contact with a well known offroad bumper maker since August of last year for some sliders, front and rear bumpers, and some BD lights. I had paid about half down and they sent me multiple quotes since October of the remaining balance but kept pushing out the completion date multiple times until they were finally completed a couple weeks ago. When they informed me everything was ready, they added in another $1,000 AND arranged to ship everything to a terminal that wasnt even "near by" where I live although we had initially agreed to have everything shipped on a pallet to my home. I had to tell them the additional $1,000 charge PLUS being unable to ship everything to my house was a deal breaker. So with that said, I had to call off the deal and now I'm angry.

Yes, life goes on... but just what a waste of time. Had to file a claim with my CC and all should be good. Anyway, just had to vent somewhere and this was the first thread I saw where I felt I could vent. No more cool bumpers and sliders for me but with a possible recession coming this might be more of a blessing in disguise.

When I lived down in Arizona, I got my picture taken at 10pm while doing 30 in a 35 because there were people walking along the side of the narrow 2 lane because the photo trailer was parked on the sidewalk.
Would they use IR flash and night camera to grab the photo? Nope. There I was driving on an unlit road with pedestrians walking in it and I get blinded by a flash.
I proceeded to call the cops and filed a complaint with them that night. The following day, I contacted the DA with the complaint information and told him that I wanted to file a criminal complaint for wreckless endangerment for having the speed set below the posted limit and for having a blinding light aimed at drivers at night. Told them I would be willing to walk away from the charges if the trailer was moved that day. Went past it an hour later and they were hooking it up to a pickup.

I don’t go anywhere near Denver if at all possible (used to be fun, buts it’s a damn cess pool…I avoid Denver like the plague) their (PD) photo radar vans are set for 11+ over.

I rarely speed. It bothers me due to principle. It's an ineffective way to manage speeders. It doesn't actually reduce speeding and it encourages speed limits to be set artificially low in order to further aid in the collection of fines.

It's basically another form of taxation, and taxation is almost entirely theft.

I'm generally a quiet and reserved person that prefers to make a calculated bullseye shot instead of hip shooting. Very few things get my blood pressure up. Being forced to explain to someone how to do their job when I only have a layman's knowledge of it gets me fired up.
The process of getting the dealer to update my PCM for the transmission temp warning resulted in being told my 21 would need an aftermarket cooler on the first trip really tested my patience. After calling corporate my second trip went better but only after I offered to email a copy of the TSB to the service writer and after a 3 hr wait having to go back in and explain the process wasn't completed until the sticker was affixed under the hood.
Sometimes I think it's best to let my loud, short fused wife handle these situations.

Reminds me when I went in for my *first* recall on my '13 F150. Had a poorly designed valve body separator plate, and as such, when the transmission went from drive to park, it buzzed like crazy.

Once the tech got done looking at it, he drove it back to me, and stood there and told me "Couldn't hear it" *WHILE IT WAS MAKING THE NOISE.*

I just asked for the service manager. Had him listen; and gave him a copy of the TSB, etc.

The bigger issue is that every single recall or parts replacement was like that. I mean, if it's a hard issue to find, that's one thing, but I'm an IT guy and solutions-oriented....if there's an issue and you tell me there's not, I'll shame you into compliance. LOL

You just reminded me if something that makes me angry! "Work-arounds" that become permanent solutions! It takes 5 people 10 minutes to perform a series of tasks the application should be able to handle in 20 seconds, "but you've got a work-around, right"? Which translates into "Any excuse I can find to not have to go in and fix it because my boss is on my ass about other projects".

This ties in closely with "after the project is launched we can go in and fine tune the processes to make it better and maximize performance/efficiency". Which I quickly learned is a bunch of lies and really means "once we launch this bitch, it's off our plate forever unless there are critical failures."

Maybe you're not like that, but the IT departments where I've worked typically are/were.

Well, I work for the gov't, so you KNOW it's like that. :D

Seriously though, agree 100%. Back a decade ago or so when our help desk software was launched, I was wondering why it was so slow. Did a bit of nosing around and found:

    - for some dumba$$ reason they expected 1 million concurrent connections at a time? Actual work load? *36 MILLION concurrent connections.*
    - was based on a version of MySQL that was like 6 years old.

I mean...it was a brand new Helpdesk. The first would have been a bit harder to solve/plan for but seriously, how hard would it have been to use up-to-date software?

    :annoyed:

As much as I gripe as an end user, IT guys do get pretty much nothing but shit sandwiches from everyone. I've had the pleasure of working with a few who were on top of their game and understood the politics of the position as well. They'd squeeze in time to help as much as they could, but occasionally even they'd hit a point where the answer was there, but it was going to be too much work to handle off the radar. Which means we'd have to go through the "proper channels", submit requirements/ROI etc. to try and get it pushed through as a project. Which is easy enough, but getting the project to become a priority for the management/executive team to assign resources is the hard part.

Agreed on the shit sandwiches. I tell my wife that aside from the whole mortality thing, it’s kind of like being a nurse. If we do our job right we get no recognition. In our case it’s because “well you just sit there and play on the computer all day.” If everything goes to hell, “I thought you guys were supposed to prevent this!”

Thank god our attorney general had stated that are illegal here in SC. Had one speed trap town on I95 try and get around the law by having a cop with the photo ticket thing. AG still said no.

    Fraud. Against all of us.
The VA has me going to a branch of the local hospital for knee injections because my doc retired at the VA hospital.
First time there, they billed TriWest $232 for the doc to walk in and say he needs an up to date MRI done at their location of choice. Ok, fine.
Second time, they billed $232 for the doc to walk in and say that they will schedule me to come back to get an injection. I was quite literally talking with the doc for less than a minute before he left. Ok, this is annoying.
Third time, they billed $232 to see the doc, $16 for an injection (which provided less than a week of relief btw), and $195 for aspiration.
Problem is, I did not get a knee aspiration. I asked for one because I have a cyst at the back of the knee but they wouldn't do it.

So, I called TriWest to bring it to their attention. Even after explaining that I believed it to be fraudulent, they didn't really seem to care and told me to call the patient advocate at my local VA. Seriously tax payers paid the bill and the people who cut the check didn't really care about paying for services not provided.
