I had to make two trips to Phoenix the last couple days, but it was only 80 miles one way. While I was driving I got to thinking what is the longest or furthest you have driven in one session with breaks. Mine was a few years ago when I drove from central Arizona to far northern CO. in one day. It was 13 hours of driving and the longest break I took was 20 minutes. Lots of caffeine, books on tape and power naps during breaks are what pushed me through.

My wife and I have done quite a few trips that far where we took turns driving and while those are long days but they aren't too bad. These days I don't like driving before sunrise or after dark if I don't have to and we try to plan our trips accordingly.

    Fun question!

Longest time driving in one day, 15hrs. Our 1979 Minnie Winnie started crapping out on us in NW Missouri after a spring break of MTBing. Solution since I couldn’t do work; back roads thru N MO and IA and MN! I will remember that drive vividly the rest of my life. Girls in the back having a blast, me grinding out the miles at 25-29mph enjoying the scenery. Any faster and the alternator, water pump, non-working ac, idler pulley would start signing/hollering/squelching/squealing at me like a pack of hyenas. So rad to see the back roads at such a leisurely speed.

Longest distance driving in one shot: ~925mi from middle of KY to home in middle of MN. Drilled it back from Slade area, bypassing Chicago and rolling thru central IL and IA.

15hrs is about my tops. Any more and I would need to shut my eyes for an hour or two…

I used to drive for a living so longevity is what was legal :burnrubber: Maine to Florida was my 1st steady long distance Gig, but with a senior driver...we

    split times..

BUT a family emergency a few years back had Con & I drive straight through; Ft.Myers to NH in just under 23 hours 1530+ miles... She navigated

and I did all the driving...

To say I was a F@ch!@# bear when we got there...:mad::mad:

15hrs CT to Topail, NC, we had it easy though. We had AC and comfy seats in our car. We were traveling with my brother-n-law who was driving a dark blue church van that we literally did a used motor swap 24hrs before the trip with 3 girls, a baby, his wife and his mother-in-law and no AC

I was 21, drove an ex girlfriend back to her hometown. 17-18 hours of driving round-trip, got a couple hours of sleep then went to work.

    Snow removal duty SUCKS...

You get called in when it starts & don't go home till they say "all clear" o_O and my dumb young a$$ would see "nothing but $$$" and then

go out later that night for the "Town's Sno-removal" with the dump truck :burnrubber:.. Easy money staying in line with a sno-blower but some storm

clean-ups would be a week; start to finish..o_O

    Welcome to New England...:hattip:

300 hectares on single tank of kerosene
Between lack of sleep, back pain and legs going to sleep, it would take two weeks for me to recover from that.

I think it was about 15 hours nonstop coming back from T2S. That’s why I haven’t gone back. :( Our Mojave trips is 12 hours there, 20 hours on dirt for 3 days then 10 hours back. That one kills me.

Ex when I drove her. She was 2 states from home, without a car.
That trip was probably the most we ever got along, kind of weird.

Some of you have some epic long drives. My longest is West Yellowstone, Montana to Las Vegas in one day…….with a 6 and 8 year old asking “how much longer” ha

What do you call one trip? Straight through, gas stops, gas station coffee and snacks excepted, Sarasota, Fl to Greenville, SC, 10- 11 hours.

A couple of years ago I was working here in SC for 9 months while the wife and my official residence were still in FL, every other weekend excepting school vacations when the missus would come to me I'd take a three day weekend and drive down to FL and back. Needless to say I'm quite thankful I'm not doing that anymore!!

EDIT: Just tonight finished cooking the books for 2022, my business mileage alone that year was over 45K miles and I don't drive for a living! :eek2:

EDIT #2: I tell a lie, my longest trip was on a coach from London to the French Alps, almost 24 hours of sheer bloody hell, never again!!

2"CB shackles, bushings and 1 shim, lockerdown console vault, rear folding seat back mod, snugtop shell with opening side windows, 46g fuel tank, SDHQ sliders and hidden winch, Decked Drawers, Alcan leaf springs and got rid of the interior chrome
Some things definitely helped; flipping from Rolling Stones, zeppelin, John mayall, etc on the tape player. Truck stops for the thermos of coffee. CB radio for some outside stimuli with the truckers. Pulling off a few times to do some push-ups and wind sprints.
Many of y’all did far greater distances than me. San Francisco to Tucson, basically non stop. 1976. Driving a 1975 1/2t Chevy. Probably around 20 years old.

From Seattle to Chico California towing a trailer with basically a sail on it. I was dead tired when I got there. Northern California is so boring to drive through. Sleep deprivation is no joke. It doesn’t help going out the night before.

2013 from Girard Pa. to Wynyard Saskatchewan 1890 miles one way, by myself, in two days, to waterfowl hunt. The drive out not terrible, 1000 miles the first day and punched it out the next. HOWEVER the drive home just about did me in.

Whatever this forum told me to do
    few years back-

    South Houston to Dollywood.

    '06 Sequoia 2 kids & wife

1st stop was 16hours to Birmingham, AL.

It was "fun" till we got to Slidell, LA.

then it was "kinda fun" till Birmingham.

    the Sequoia is a cruiser.

    Dollywood is worth it.

Cabin in the Smoky's...way up there.

    _____
Or South Houston to Disneyland - taking Route 66 on purpose. 14 hours to Tucumcari, NM Rented a Chevy Tahoe Boring drive. 13 hours to get out of TX.
but then to meteor crater, cadilac ranch, Winslow AZ, Grand Canyon. fun.

the kids were little...when we got to Cars Land in Disney...it was all the places we saw on Route 66....

and nobody told me its straight downhill from Barstow to Disneyland. it was us & 5600 semi's. narry a one used brakes.

    We flew back

    Life is good.

A little over 23 hours from Rapid City SD to Gettysburg PA. Had a son in a car seat the whole way. He was a trooper, didn’t complain and entertained himself. Scary part was nodding off inside one of the Pa turnpike tunnels. That made the a$$hole pucker, definitely wide awake after that.

I drove 16 hours January 31st, From Missoula MT, to Nephi UT, in my Tundra, with wife and kid.

Normally about 9 hours but the weather was bad and roads where closed so I had to zigzag all over the country to get down there. No breaks other than a few minutes to gas up, as it was the middle of winter, so freezing cold outside, and I don't go to restaurants.

If we are just talking trips, I've drive from Missoula, to Fairbanks AK several times, but in no less than three days.

13 hours.. in my 2dr tundra. You think loud exhaust and headers are great until you have to listen to them the whole time. My radio is factory as in poor condition. So it seemed so much longer than it was. The only good thing about it was that if you got the truck way up on powerband and kept your speed up.. you could tolerate it. I averaged 90mph to PA from SC. The crazy part got almost 17mpg on highway doing it.
