I have a 2020 MGM CM with low profile fender flares and stock TRD 18"wheels. I was wandering if anyone could tell me what size wheel spacers I could use to make the tires flush with the outside edge of the fender flares?

Can’t you measure the gap that the fenders overhang the tires and then just use that size spacer?

Looks good. So im guessing 1.25-1.5" spacers should bring me to the edge. Thanks

I’m thinking the 1.25” are the sweet spot for getting you close to the flare edge without creating more rubbing problems or slinging the rocks and debris all over your paint.

Yeah. I am nervous of the rubbing so I ordered the bumper shim kit that others on here recommended from coachbuilder. Just waiting to get those in and then ordering spacers. Thanks for posting the pics.

Wider tires (295/305/315 etc) to save the headache/issues of spacers?

Possibly. But only half of the additional tire width pushes toward the outside of the vehicle. So a 295 would push the tire an additional 10mm out (3/8” roughly). The other half of the tire width quickly encroaches on the upper ball joint and depending on the tread and sidewall, may contact on a 295 on stock wheels. Beyond 295, you are very likely to contact the upper ball joint, which would necessitate new wheels with a different offset, or spacers. So kind of a catch 22 with wider tires….

To the OP, from what I’ve seen, a 1.25” spacer puts it right in that sweet spot. The tires are typically flush or just a touch in from the fender depending on the tire size and MFG (aspect ratio, actual measured size, inflation, sidewall design, section width) etc. low profile fender flares are 1”, so 1.25” spacers should put you just past or flush with the flare. Plus, I’m told you don’t need to modify/shave down the wheel studs with a 1.25” spacer.

@KNABORES - did you have to do any grinding to the lugs with a 1” spacer to get your wheels to sit flush on the spacer, wing they are 1” and not the more popular 1.25”?

Agree. Definitely no more than 1.25”. I tried the 1.5 spacers and they were to wide imo. They bolted on but could have used a couple more threads on the studs. They were just below flush on the lugs nut they supplied with the spacers. Selling the 1.5” if anyone wants them.

What headache/issues do the spacers cause? Thinking of going with a 1” spacer with stock wheels and no fender flares…. What would be the issues I would run into if I did this? Thank you

What size of spacer you think was on that truck? Would a smaller spacer cause as many problems as a big spacer?

couldn’t there also be many reasons why this happened? Installing problems?

I haven't heard it was confirmed, but that was just some folks initial guess just by looking at the tire poke. There could be a million things that could be the culprit for this, but I have heard stories about spacers snapping. Probably incredibly rare for reputable manufacturers, but still makes me second guess it. (Though I did run spacers on my Tacoma for a year or so before I changed wheels and tires and got the look I wanted)...since then I have considered them, but no real reason too. Different wheel and offset will get the look the OP wants.

I’m not sure there even was a spacer on that truck. If there was, the spacer didn’t fail - you can clearly see the brake rotor attached to the back of the wheel, meaning WHEEL BEARING FAILURE. And most wheel bearings complain looooong before separation. I would guess that poor maintenance or improper service had something to do with it.

Could a wheel spacer have affected the longevity of the bearing? Sure. But so do aftermarket aggressive offset wheels and bigger heavier tires in the same way.

Funny how quick folks are to assume. Reminds me of a dodge that split in half that gets brought up in EVERY towing or payload thread now; always blame payload paying zero attention to loading scenario and the fact that he guy was literally baja’ing the truck… and that’s it’s not the first dodge to split a frame in half.
