I am thinking about a CBI classic front bumper. 400 seems a little high for shipping to me though! What you think?

Probably. I know that shipping a pair of sliders from RCI (Colorado) to me (central Oregon) was unbelievably expensive, and that was before the current inflation and supply chain fiasco era. IIRC, that was via FedEx Freight.

If I remember correctly, our Alcans weren't cheap to ship either.

Sounds about right these days. I got their full set of skids for the 4Runner and they were $400 shipped. Freight carriers are quite expensive.

Just ordered sliders and some skids from RCI... Shipping for the sliders alone was $360 (FedEx freight), which yeah it seems pricey... But, the other vendors I was looking at were over $600. So, all in all (especially w/20% off), it wasn't bad for me.

Usually, if they are running fedex freight it will show fedex next to the price quote for shipping fees, and this is an accurate price. If you are just seeing a $$$ in the shipping line of the quote it may be more generic. In that case, I'd call the vendor and just verify their best current shipping price to your location. Sometimes you'll get a better price that way.

*** If you have a way of shipping to a business address (work, buddy, etc.) you'll generally find shipping large items is generally about $100 less when going to a business

    Good luck!!!!

More than fair at today’s prices for freight/diesel… unfortunately.

I picked my bumper up at FedEx's DC. Cheaper than delivery to a residence.

I had an entire truck shipped from Iowa to the Coast for under $2k and that was about 1 1/2 years ago...

If you are doing multiple large and heavy items you may want to see if others from your area are interested and do a group order and negotiate the shipment; definitely have it sent to a business address!!

I paid $200 to ship CBI sliders to upstate New York in summer 2018. Also work in the construction industry and we've seen freight shipping double at minimum since COVID, so you're probably right in line. Picking up from a freight hub instead of liftgate service to a residential address will save you also.

check out truck brigade.com. I bought mine there and got 5% off with a coupon and their shipping was $250 instead of $450 from CBI.

LTL Freight is always going to be expensive. There's a lot of wasted space in an LTL trailer and they have to make up for the lack of efficiency. Same reason you'll get raked over the coals by UPS if you send a large lightweight box. It hammers the efficiency and every trip that truck makes needs to generate a certain amount of profit.

If it's too costly, see what you can do about planning a trip to the area to pick it up yourself or at least to a freight hub that might save some money.

    Nailed it.

I was a freight broker. Sometimes we had small time haulers (hot shot drivers, etc) we'd enlist for cheaper.

I have a buddy who drives a big rig so if I'm lucky enough to find a good deal on something in Austin, Dallas, or San Antone, and he's gonna head there for work, he'll scoop it up for me.
