Not the best gas milage

If you went 100mi up you took 8.33gal, and down was 4.55gal, which is 200/12.88 or 15.5 mpg.

 

2022 8ft bed, 10% ethanol, 87 octane, 100 miles on highway this past weekend.

 

Good lord, you bought a truck and thought you would get good fuel mileage? It is a truck, big, heavy with a powerful engine and the gas mileage sucks. If you wanted great mileage you should have purchased a Camry. These threads about gas mileage should be deleted immediately!

I started driving a Tundra in 2011. Joined a different site and was on there for years. Just bought my 3rd Tundra and joined here because it seemed more active. I chuckle when I see that all of the same topics that are unnecessarily beat to death are still alive and well,....and still having new threads started
There's probably a dozen topics that should be deleted before the OP is finished typing the first sentence. Even if it's your first Tundra, first truck and first time on the internet.

 

Can I borrow it for a day? Bet I can cut that number in half.
Also, a 2022 with an 8' bed?! I thought I heard they took 8' beds off the list for the new model. Got a pic somewhere?

 

That was definitely best case scenario. I had the radar cruise set to follow a tanker truck that was doing about 65. I wanted to see how good i could do on the highway.

I don't think they sold many long beds. I haven't seen another one. My local Toyota dealer told me he had 65 Tundra's on order, all of them short beds, which i find crazy. I found mine used down the street at the Mitsubishi dealer with 5k miles. Here is a pic.

I believe it. Back in 2011, I loaded my new CM 4x4 5.7 with 3 kids and a bed packed with gear and drove to AZ and back from western NY about a month after getting the truck. I didn't pay attention to fuel economy after the trip (because it didn't have the MPG display) but I kept track for the trip. I got 13 mpg while driving through the mountains in NM and AZ. I got 24 mpg headed east out of Denver and east through Nebraska with a tailwind. I averaged 18.25 mpg for the entire 5005 mi trip.
My 2015 DCLB got 14.4 for 4 yrs. I'm averaging 15 with the 2021 DCLB after about 4 tanks, but it's 2wd and I haven't added any steps, cap, etc. And just yesterday I started playing with the pedal commander that was left by the prev owner. I imagine I'll end up back in the 14mpg camp.
And that's okay.

 

In 2009 when we got my 09 Crewmax 4x4 we took a 750 mile road trip literally the next day. I did the first stretch, taking it easy for the break in miles. Also wanted to see what mpg she was capable of. Light throttle, under 65, planned merges to minimize throttle use. Planned based on what I saw going on ahead of me to minimize situations requiring heavy acceleration. Just a few hundred miles of easy highway driving varying from 55 to low 60s.

I got high 18s on that stretch. Handed the keys to the wife, woke up to her doing 90 behind a Caddy in the left lane throwing every bad word in the English language at him for not getting out of the way. First thought was how smooth the truck felt at that speed. Then I closed my eyes and kept my mouth shut.

My leg of that trip was the highest mpg that truck ever saw so I know it was possible but I just never drove it that way again. The rest of her time with me she was a 14-15 mpg truck no matter what. More like 12 if all city.

 

Last fill up on my 17 was 17.7mpg 239miles 13.491 gals reg 87.I normally avg high 16s to mid 18s in spring to fall.Winter is 15to16s .I never warm it up or idle it either.Its start and go

 

There are a few ways to pick up some mpgs here and there, and all though minimal they can add up. I’ve had great results from doing the TB coolant bypass plus pcv-ccv catch can. I live in Vegas so not necessary for me, went from 14.5 - 16.5. Next up will be trd intake plus SABM mod, I’ll check back in with results from those when I get them installed. Hope this helps.

 

2016 with 130k miles. 275/70r18 M/t Baja legend tires E load. I get 12.7-14.2 depending on the week. That's 55mph roads and 30mph roads and letting it warm up on cold mornings when I bring my daughter to daycare. Thats hand calculated running 87.

 

First time ever I hit 17.5 overall on a tank the other day. Even checked manually as we know how accurate the on board reading can be which in my case has been pretty close. Still have those 10-14 mpg fill ups around town. Best was on highway but north of 70 all the time.

 

100 mile downhill stretch, in neutral, engine off, drafting behind big rig.

 

This section if for up to 21 with a V8. I have two friends that bought the 22. None get better mileage than mine stock and are looking to swap out due to many false promises on the Turbo V6.

 

I don't think anyone should be surprised, since the "more power with better mpg" claim from that platform was debunked over a decade ago with the ecobust. They get fantastic fuel economy being pussy footed on the flat, open highway, sure.
The Tundra V8 is the only full size truck that had accurate, real world mpg advertised. Other brands never got what they claimed. So, I'd be a tiny bit surprised if Toyota fibbed a little on real world numbers for their version of the Ecoboost, but not surprised in general if it doesn't get what's claimed.
It's a shame they didn't keep the 5.7 as an option.
Shit, if turbos are so great and make more power while saving fuel, why didn't they just stick 'em on the 5.7??
