Driving to go fishing this morning and my new truck with 361 miles decided it need a rest in the middle of the highway. Had to get towed to the dealer. 24 years of Toyota and this is the first tow. Total system shutdown. Yeah

    1) That sucks. Sorry you're going through that. You should be confident in your vehicle, but....
    2) Unless you're towing a canoe, this may be why the break in period exists:

    Owner's Manual, p.176:
"If your vehicle is new or equipped with any new power train components (such as an engine, transmission, transfer [4WD models], rear differential or wheel bearing), Toyota recommends that you do not tow a trailer until the vehicle has been driven for over 500 miles (800 km). After the vehicle has been driven for over 500 miles (800 km), you can start towing. However, for the next 500 miles (800 km), drive the vehicle at a speed of less than 50 mph (80 km/h) when towing a trailer, and avoid full throttle acceleration."

EDIT: I am stupid and cannot read correctly. OP mentioned "this is the first tow" . . . of a Toyota vehicle. Not of something by the vehicle. . . :anonymous:

Reading comp 101... "first tow" means his TRUCK got towed to the dealer, for the first time in a Toyota for 24 years, not that he was towing a boat. Although he could have been. But he didn't say that.

@namrog456 not everyone who fishes owns a boat :notsure: just saying. OP never mentioned towing a boat so it's possible they weren't.

No boat, just my ass and dog. Still sitting at the dealer while the techs scratch fleas from their heads? Go figure

What did it do when it shut down? "Reduced Engine Power" message? Wouldn't start back up?

You're correct. My bad. I read "this is the first tow" and it did not correlate properly.

Derated on a quick trip yesterday; received a check engine notice.called the dealer said I was bringing it in this morning to check it out. Made 20 miles and stopped at a light. Truck cut itself off. Powered back up nothing worked, nothing worked except dollar locks and display. Moved to side of road having to restart twice. Now it’s throwing 9 codes all electronic failures. She still starts but won’t go over 3 mph. Craziest thing

Funny part is they were blaming the gas initially. Still on the first tank from 2 months ago. No more talk about gas.

You didn't have the front windshield tinted recently by chance, did you?

Tech says combustion engine is fine, looking through Tech stream. Not a resolution yet.

Water leaks down and kills the electronics and computers sometimes during a windshield tint job.

@jamesmro hit the nail on the head. Several folks have reported ECU / BCM electronic issues following tint jobs on the front windshield. Though I wouldn't say it "kills" the electronics, per se. A few people have reported that the problems eventually cleared after a couple of days letting the electronics dry out.

It seems to primarily be TRD Pro owners, but I haven't kept track of them individually to see if it impacts other models or if its specific to hybrids or just Pros. Several threads on the forum about it though.

Techs have decided to call in another Tech from one of Houston’s largest dealers. They expressed he personally has worked on 3 similar situations since December?

It has to do with the TSS that causes the problem, from my understanding.
