Went to Shakeshack for lunch. At the counter I was told unless I was paying with cash I needed to use the automated teller. At the end it asked if I wanted to give a 15% tip.

Fuck. No. Fuck. No. Fuck. No. Fuck. No. Fuck. No. Fuck. No. Fuck. No. Fuck. No. FUUUUCCCKKK. YOOOOUUUUU. NO!

I have to enter my order and then return to the counter to get my meal. You have done exactly zero beyond what you were hired to do. Zero tip. Zero!

 

You're not missing anything. It is a great burger, don't get me wrong. But not epic.

 

We had shake shack in Vegas; it was good at first... then service and quality seemed to take a nose dive about 1 year in to it being there

I can't remember where I saw it, but I believe I read something recently that they were rated as one of the most over-priced and underwhelming fast food joints!

 

At dinner the other night and on the little credit card machine they hand you (btw, do you know what's more riddled with germs than the fv(k!ng menu? That little credit card machine...) the starter tip was set at 18%. The service was not good. I'm a maybe for even 15% at this point, but don't want to leave the guy with nothing; so I tried to add 15%. First try, the machine interpreted it as $150. I look frustrated, and the waiter, who was waiting and watching wat tip I was putting, tried to grab the machine. Nope. Second try a couple seconds later (Why is this guy in a rush? He couldn't even be bothered to get us water until we asked...) the machine interpreted $150,000. Still the guy is trying to grab the little machine. I gave him a look, tried again and finally got it right. So much failure. I hate automatic tips and pushy waiters. Worse pushy bad waiters. I really liked that place, too; but we may see them again in 8 or 9 months, if ever, after that.

 

All that shit drives me crazy.
Just went somewhere and the options were 20, 22 and 25%. That alone makes me want to tip 15% max

 

I guess I'm wired a little different. I've waited tables, and I've got sisters that did as well. We all busted our asses and got paid shit. Top that with the fussiest customers that take the most work always being the low or no tippers.... I tip well if they are good. If they are new I'm super patient. I will tip low only if they are inept while not busy, and the only way I will stiff on a tip is if they are rude. I've had some who have just gone above and beyond and I've left tips bigger than the bill.

Another fun one is to go in on a holiday, when I know their job sucks, and be super nice and easy for them, and then leave a $100 on a single plate order. You know it absolutely makes their day, and that makes me smile.
