Hello everyone, first post from Texas.

I was bleeding my brakes today and decided to tackle the squeaking experienced when coming to a slow stop. Lo and behold one of my brake pads was not completely contacting the rotor face, resulting in the issue shown in the images. I also noticed a chunk of material missing from the same brake pad (also shown).

Pad wear is completely even otherwise. One pad is about a 1/32 thicker than the other. I have two questions. Can I just file a chamfer on the top edge of that pad and reinstall? And what could cause this? Incorrect installation or an issue with the caliper/rotor?

Installed both rotor and pad about 40k miles ago. Centric premium rotors and Hawk LTS pads

    Thanks!

Hell yeah I would. Knock that piece off, bevel and reinstall.

Looks like the other pad is doing the same thing. Weird.

    Happens every time.

They can be rebuilt...fyi. The kits are pretty cheap.

Used to run EBC pads and rotors, rear pads did the same thing. Didn’t seem to hurt anything.

Is that usually do to not properly braking in brake pads?…

Just a dumb question but the pins were installed that hold the pads in place before you took that photo right?

Yup. Looks like no pins and the pad moved up. Could be wrong but I don’t see why the pad sticks out past the rotor. Never seen that before but first time for everything.

Yeah they were in. Took them out to take a better picture. After reading the reviews for the Hawk pads other people confirmed they sometimes run slightly large and overlap the rotor face by about 1mm.

Ok... what has been replaced previously brake wise? I did my fronts again recently on my '17 and they were not even near the edge like that. I'm wondering if the pins are worn, aftermarket pads don't have the pin hole set properly etc....

If you swapped that caliper out for a new one, it'd probably stop doing it.
