It's right next to the taco tree. You'll see it when you arrive after driving across country.
    Trust me. :D

Thursday you'll arrive to great welcome, join the 1st gen homies because we love you best. Not sure if you'll arrive first, or me, because I'll be out exploring on an "overland" adventure but we plan to hit the T2S camp in the afternoon on Thursday. Either Thursday or Friday night there will for sure be tornado'd cactus elixir.

Friday, most everyone meets (or convoys; except some like to make their own way... maybe stop for coffee or breakfast in Flagstaff) up at Cinders, which is several square miles of volcanic pebbles. Like, instead of whatever makes the ground anywhere else in the world. Anyone that wants to, tells the organizers they want to participate (no advanced sign-up required; tell 'em when the mood strikes, after you've watched what's involved). Organizers will give your truck a once-over for loose items in the bed or cab that might harm you or someone else (campfire stories will reveal the reasons why), then you'll get a sticker to mark your truck approved to run. The event is time trials on a "closed" track, while everyone else watches and cheers you on. It's good for pics, because your truck will look extra fast with that cloud of volcanic dust at any given corner. Trucks are categorized based on engine and mods. Most years Hulk is pretty lonely as the only long-travel 1st gen. And I keep the pedal down to the floor except into sharp turns, but the truck only goes as fast as it goes, plus elevation. Fun to go as fast as you can though... many of us don't have other opportunities to do this.

Not wanting to be hung over at Cinders, I'll probably embrace the cactus tornado on Friday night....

Friday afternoon, groups of buddies head out exploring together. Or, there are enough people from all over that camp is a cool place to spend time, if you like meeting people, drinking beer, or looking at trucks. I don't know whether there may be vendor/sponsored trainings at camp, but if those happen, they'd likely be Friday or Saturday.

Saturday morning is a bit of a palaver, a raffle for big-money truck and camp accessories, and herding cats (trucks in a huge formation for drone pics; this goes quicker every year as repeat attendees don't have to be prompted to park in line). If you win something you don't want or need, easy to look around for someone looking crestfallen, and sell it on the spot for cash.

In past years, sometimes a vendor or two will provide a meal or two... think grilled burgers and dogs... but maybe a taco tree. There's been swag bags and t-shirts, but I don't know what's planned this year.

So everything AT x AT posted is true, but for you specifically, you've got a lot of buddies you've not yet met IRL who'd love to hang out with you! It'll be a lot of hanging out, driving out, laughing, and probably some teasing. And-- like visiting National Parks every time you pass one-- this may not happen this way again.

Alright, I'm convinced. I'll see if I can't leave here on Thursday, hang out Friday and Saturday, then leave Sunday. Maybe me, @Tundra2, @FirstGenVol, and possibly @Mr.bee can convoy.

I know I'll need to put in my AAL, lift the front more, change my end links, oil change, refill front and rear diffs, and aquire camping gear.

Most people are running Baofengs. I believe the frequency the organizers use is in the 151 MHz range.

Gmrs. And we try to be as low key on the trails as 1.763 million trucks can be... maneuvering politely to allow pink Heep tours through, and keeping the locals, environment, and economy happy. So running a dirt bike with the Tundra groups would probably call attention and irritate more people than you'd anticipate. That said, I think there'll be dirt bikes and pockets bikes tooling around near camp.

MURS, technically. Most radios should be able to run HAM, MURS, GMRS, FRS though, assuming it's a baofeng or similar. Some of the Rugged Radios and Midland ones might be locked to VHF or UHF, not able to use both.

I depated bringing it but decided it wasn't smart. No way to safely secure it when we stop and no way to recharge it while camping. Would have been a ton of fun out there though.

Yeah no I wish mine was that simple
I bought the like $90ish boafang model I was recco'd two years ago and neither me nor my buddy Cory could figure it out. So I always end up using other people's cheapo GMRS radios instead.

OK I registered and requested 4 days off. It'll take 19hrs drive each way. So I may hit Sedona around 1:00am Friday at the earliest.

Will I be able to get to camp that late?
I can't seem to find an address for the event.
