The question is why would you spend $50k+ on a new vehicle just to destroy it within a year?

I have never considered resale value as part of my car purchase decisions. I buy what I want and use it however I want to.

Buying a car and not using it to save the resale value is like never fucking your wife to save her for her next husband.

you should delete that comment, don't want to see you get in trouble if you truly are a toyota engineer.

in todays social media world, stuff like that (although on point in this crowd) can come back to haunt you.

you have identified yourself as a toyota engineer here and therefore, like it or not, are representing the company to some degree

there, my public service annoucement for the year.

wasn’t really my point at all.

my point was identifying yourself as part of a major corporation and then saying unprofessional things.

but never-mind, I’ll just keep my mouth shut, didn’t mean to derail the thread

This whole forum is about derailed threads . To your point though, I'm on the side of the aisle of believing grown ass men and women are capable of making their own decisions without my unsolicited advice. It's their ass on the hook for repercussions, not mine.

no worries at all man, I should have just kept my mouth shut but just didn’t want the bs world we live in at times to screw the guy over , assuming he really is a Toyota tundra engineer .

That could be awful handy to have for an enthusiast site like this

Actually, it wasn't. If I would have said, "you should" "If I were you" "I would advise" "I recommend" or any variation of that, it would be advice. I merely pointed out my philosophy on it with zero recommendation he should share the same view.

As an example, your previous post said "never hide from social media." That would be advice. If you said "I never hide from social media." That would not be.

Not my post but sure. Everyone on here is giving unsolicited or solicited advice depending on the context. Welcome to the internet. Everyone can post whatever they want. One guy wasn’t comfortable with another guys post. You weren’t comfortable with his. Big circle. Live and let live. Post what you want. Let them post what they want.

I'm plenty comfortable with any post made on here or any other forum or platform. I didn't once say to anyone not to post anything. And I didn't take offense, just clarifying I didn't provide the guy with advice. I am a firm believer of letting anyone say anything they want, no matter how heinous or derogatory it is. I like knowing where people stand on things and what they believe. Sticks and stones, my man.

No surprises here. Crazy that average vehicle is worth 45% after 5 years. Paid 37.5k for 2018 Sr5 crew max 4x4 when new. It’s 5 years old and theoretically worth way more than 45% of that, lol. Not looking to sell. I think the new gen are really nice on paper, but I have not even ridden in one. Hope those with them enjoy them.

Edit: KBB claims average private party sale for my truck with 45,000 miles is $36,930 (34.8-38.9) so that’s around 98.47%. Nice.

I traded in a 2014 Platinum Crewmax, 4x4 for my gen 3 this time last year. I got that truck new for about $50K with the options I wanted. I got almost 35K on trade in. It retained roughly 70% of it's value 8 years later. Crazy.

Last year Jan 2022 I was offered $6000 more than I paid for my truck new in 2018.
Only reason I even considered trading it in. I could have made $6K after 4 years.
Ironically I got $6000 off from the dealer at the time of purchase in 2018.
So they were ready to give me the list price back from 2018.

I don't care because the wait was too long and I have never ever paid list for a vehicle before.
And after whats happened after one year to the Tundra I am glad.
My son's 4runner loan was 5.9% when he bought it little over a year ago.
    The rate today is 11%.
He has a company pickup truck, his 4runner was stored so I ended up buying his low mileage 4runner off of him.
Ipaid off his loan. They told me the new rate I laughed. Yeah things are just getting started.
The 4runner has the transfer case with full time 4wd too which is nice.
You can tell it was made in Japan too. (just saying)

He drives a company truck. When I asked the loan person when I paid the loan off at 5.9%. She told me the new rate today is 11%.
I asked how do people do this? She shook her head.
    edit
    @Breathing Borla
Remember In Canada our dollar is ALOT lower and the rates are a lot higher.

Who cares what resale is. It's a depreciating asset, Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Ram, Toyota. If you can't afford to take the hit in depreciation, you shouldn't be buying it. You sure as hell shouldn't be financing or god forbid, fleasing it.
