To Overland or Not to Overland

  1. I would like to join an Overland Detachment.

  2. I would like to enjoy trail leader, lead day trip(s) and return back to base camp to sleep.

  3. I would like to explore the trails by me, myself and I.

What normally happens on the last two days of Sedona?

I have the time to take 3 days, but I am ONE FULL days drive away one way. So I would be driving for 23 hours, nap upon arrival, have a single day at Sedona, and then drive one full day back.

Wait, that's incorrect, and I'm tired. Let me correct that.

I'm planning on taking 4/27 off to drive there. Spend 4/28, 4/29, and 4/30 there, and then return to ky on 5/1.

What normally happens on the above days?

Same as the other days...

Drive trails during the day and participate in shenanigans afterwards. Shenanigans include sleeping away the jarring back pains from driving the fire roads  to sitting around a campfire drinking fresh made margaritas and telling ghost, err, trailblazing stories of the trails driven that day.

Trails we typically driven are listed here: https://www.tundrastosedona.com/trails

I also created a Google Maps list here: https://goo.gl/maps/tZ52f5BnCosGCoS86

I saw those trails online last night. They look fun as hell. I've never actually been off roading voluntarily. Always worked my young life away, and my back already hurts.

As long as I don't roll crackie over on his roof, I think we'll be in good shape. OOOOOF I really need to buy tires now and at least put the new rims/tires in the bed. Fuccck

You can always drive out on Schnebly Hill Road to take a picture here:

It's mostly fire roads and a little bumpy towards the vista point.

Safe to say that road is passable from the campsite to downtown Sedona? Google maps doesn't show it as an actual route and shows Sedona being an hour away. I assume that's because Schnebly is just a tad too rough to be considered a public road?

Thanks! Yes, unfortunately everyone is gonna have to put up with me the whole week this year. I camped in the same spot you were in few years back 2018?, and it was really bad with people going fast and dust till late at night, definitely has improved each year. No way around the dust though. Maybe Kevin could rent a water truck and we can take turns driving/jumping it.:notsure: Gonna camp this year, but still have a room reserved at the Pines a few nights just in case. Waiting on a set of cv axles ordered in December, won’t stop me but being 2 wheel drive wouldn’t be fun.

    Question:

The wife and I are thinking about going. How many people bring campers? I know its going to be boon docking out there, but the Army has ruined me from ever sleeping in a tent again!

I do! But @alb1k will be the boss of these. And maybe share secrets with anyone willing to contribute ingredients. As this is getting a lot of chatter, I'm hoping at least a few people will bring premium booze, ice, and whatever else he uses.

My contribution this year is that I bought a Wits-End air-tank-powered blender and @RUSTYNUTS is working up a plan to use my spares as air tanks. I'll get it to @des2mtn in advance if the trip, so others can tinker and figure out just the right mixture, while you and I are doing our overland thing.

I was considering a second QC from the second tank and a short 2:1 hose setup to a regulator for 10 gal of air if needed. Does the hose need a shut off or does the air blender have it?

Well, the air blender is literally an air die grinder, so the switch works as a valve, but I'm also adding an inline valve between compressor and tank(s), then another between tank(s) and blender

edit: I also pulled trigger on the arb twin today
As for the setup; in an attempt to run the blender using 2 spares as the 'tank', I'll have a regulator between compressor and spares, to keep the pressure @ 45ish. If the grinder won't run well on 45psi, then we'll run the tank(s) route. Either or all of our tanks, as well as the blender, will handle the 150 psi from the compressor, so no regulator nor shutoff would actually be necessary because you can connect to blender first, then tanks without losing air.
There's a good chance it will all work better off the tanks just due to higher pressure and that's likely what we'll end up doing. I wanted to try it with the spares for a tank so Sunny can use the blender self sufficiently without mounting a tank on Hulk, as it was already said that ain't happenin. And 'for science'.
    Also, yes QC's are good

I’m curious how this works. Those die grinders normally need a ton of air to run. Have you done a test run yet?
