Sell it man, life’s too short to have a sub par rig.

im not being a smart ass either, if mine turns out to be a pos, see ya

do you have a first model year ? What was the build date ?

I have a 22 ordered in Sept and delivered in Nov, in hopes of evading the first year fit and finish issues since Sept I saw 2023 go to dealer lots.

I have the typical fit and finish on interior, weird wind whistles 40mph+, bed clunking so bad you won't want to drive with the back window down, horrible window/door trim seals, absolutely weird transmission grinding off/on noises when on throttle cruising 73-78mph (immediately goes away when you take foot off throttle). So bad my gf says it massages her feet.

I will prolly dump this when a prime version taco comes around or if the new hurricane straight 6 start going into ram 1500s.

I lol when ppl were like omg, Toyota remembers the seat memory now, I'm like huh this been around for like 20+ years since I've gotten older and and can pay for higher end trims on vehicles now vs when i was younger

bummer, make sure you report all that to your dealer so Toyota knows. If nothing else that helps everyone out

I’m interested in that inline 6 ram as well, we’ll see about that though, I’ll need more data after it’s in there for a bit

I’ve had mine for two years and 41k miles. Let’s revisit this in 5 years and see how our trucks are doing.

Toyota never wins with first impressions. It’s the steady, quiet dependability over the long term that is their strength. But I agree that this might have taken a bit of a step back with the 3rd gen. There are lots of happy owners, though, so I’m not sure. Lots of noise to cut through.

dude, you just jinxed yourself, ha!

I will say, the newer rams are not the pos they used to be years ago. Out of my 2016 tundra and my 2013 ram, guess which one was the one that wouldn’t start in my garage . And the newer ones are even better.

I just hope the platinum tundra they are building next week being shipped to northern Illinois in blueprint is the best one ever , hehe.

    I don’t think that’s possible. ;)

Are you the person whose bearing spun at 44k?

If so, that freaks me out. Because in my use, the truck would be well past warranty on time by the time a bearing spun.

Our 2020 Corolla B2B warranty expired when we'd only put 5k on it.

Any noticeable difference for you running 5w30 like smoother acceleration or better fuel economy? I feel that my engine is almost "tinny" sometimes which I wonder if it is due to the 0W20.

Had that once with a boat motor... pulling a skier, then buuuurrrrppp, blaaatttt, clunkkkkk, stopped. Pulled the cover to find chunks of piston or rod and a nice inspection port in the block.

Oil specification can make a huge difference in some applications. The ram eco diesel spec was changed from 5-30 to 5-40 and supposedly that helped decrease the main bearing failures those engines were having. On the other hand you could probably run 0-20 up to 10-40 in a 2gr-fe and never know the difference. The only main difference between a 5-30 and 0-20 2gr-fe is the oil cap. Not saying an eco diesel and a Toyota engine have anything in common, but maybe this new turbo tundra could benefit from a 0-30 or 0-40? But I think the bean counters would sacrifice a little reliability for increased economy across the board. I don’t know….

Yup, I like the 0W-30 or 0W-40 idea. Just that little bit of extra viscosity at high temps, especially with turbos in summer time, while retaining good cold start lubrication. That is exactly what Chevy did with C7 (and C8) Corvettes. The C7s came out spec'ed for 5W-30, but after a few years they changed that spec to 0W-40.

Keep them fingers crossed! My work ride was a ram. They started transitioning us to vehicle allowance and I passed it down. 2 weeks later the cam grenaded on the guy I passed it to.
I sure do miss the ride, seats, and bells and whistles. But that $7200 repair bill that had about 12 extra hours of labor on it to flush all the camshaft bits out isn't something I'd ever want in my name.

That is interesting. The only mention of an alternative viscosity is the highlighted statement, but then states it needs to go back to 0W-20 at the next oil change:

I'm very interested in this as well. I work from home so primary use is mostly short trips around town, occasional hour+ drives, and towing a travel trailer. I will most definitely be moving to 0W-30 or 5W-30 once I'm comfortable that it won't cause any issues. I don't forsee any issues doing so.

IMO there is no need to leave the 0W for 5W. The 0W is better for early lube during startup, and the thinning out concern is on the hot end, when the 30 component comes into play. The 5W-30 is generally cheaper but I would stick to the 0W, unless the truck were used 100% in a very hot climate. IMO.

Yes, that was my thoughts exactly. Don't really see the need for 5W-30 where I live.

I live in one of the hottest (year round) cities in the US. Winters are pretty much non existent.

So would 0w-30 or 5w-30 be best?

If it was me, I'd use the 0W-30. It's still plenty viscous at normal room temps and will still provide a little quicker oiling on startup than the 5, even if it isn't winter. Watch your oil pressure with the factory fill 0W-20 and you will see pretty high numbers until the motor warms up. IOW no worries about it being too thin when cold, no matter what your climate.

    Too many, but not enough....
I live in SoCal and while I am happy with the 5w-30 I have been thinking about having the best of both worlds with 0w-40.

What about Rte 15 from PA to VA? Does that route have enough opportunities to vary the speed and throttle to avoid messing up during the break in period? I'm looking at almost 600 miles the first day (including Rte 15). Then another 500 the next day (route TBD at this point). I don't want to be another person creating a thread with this title, but in my case I would be concerned it would be because I did the wrong thing during the break in period.

Do you have a lawyer? If you have problems later on, you have no ground to stand on since you are admitting that you will be driving this way. I wouldn't blab about this. But in my opinion, the break in period doesn't really matter, just drive the two days and enjoy. No reason to take a longer route and worry about being too rough on it. It's a truck!

    Come on ffs....
A road trip isn't like driving in a vacuum on a track with the truck locked in one gear at one fixed speed.

A road trip is perfect for break-in (aside from road rash and chipped windshield) a truck with an automatic, going up and down in elevation, tailwind, headwind, accelerating, slowing.....

I just drove from Seattle to Anaheim and back, your vehicle never stays in one condition for very long. Throttle position, boost, always changing.

Exactly. And if you find yourself on long flat stretches where there aren't hills or other natural variations all you need to do it lift off once in awhile. Then speed back up. Drive for awhile, rinse and repeat.

Update: Had a second call with Jenifer Shoebottom. she refused to answer any of my questions or provide reasoning for discriminating between my case and the other cases that have been paid out. I Informed her I would be proceeding with litigation and forwarded everything to my lawyer. Ill be meeting with her team on Monday.
