Changing seat on 2018 SR5 to a power seat?

Any one know if I can change my 2018 SR5 40/20/40 front non power seat to a cloth power seat from a 2017 40/20/40 will it be plug and play?

 

DO you have the wiring harness under your current seat to supply power to the new seat? That is the first ting I would check.

I don’t know how to check that if I take pictures would you be able to tell?

 

Well I’m just trying to get a power driver seat from a 40/console/40 to replace my driver seat to a power one

Interesting. I didn’t know power was a possible option on the bench seat, I mean I know it is not really a bench, just three sections, but still wasn’t aware there was a trim level with power.

Be interesting to find out if the power harness is there somewhere. If the seat has the same mounts, and comes with all the motors embedded, then getting power shouldn’t be too hard.

No luck on finding out if power seat for driver side(40) is even an option huh? I got same issue.

 

I think that both, you and the OP have to look if there are unused plugs under your seat. If so, they should come out the same harness your seat air bag wiring is in. That is the very first thing I would check because If you don't have those that would mean you either need a whole new harness to power the seat or "rig" something up which I wouldn't recommend on a 2018 truck.

 

Hate to bring up the past, but was there ever a solution to this?

I was just looking at LakelandToyota.com and I could be wrong but part # 71120-0c331 looks like drivers seat frame w/ power. I can’t tell if it has motors and switches but if it does, you might be able to bolt your existing seat to this frame, assuming you have the existing harness plug.

I just looked under my non-powered front seat and it looks like the harness is there for power. Big empty plug.

I do not have the wiring harness.
I purchased the seat as a power seat with frame but the salvage yard cut the harness that came with the seat. I will have to purchase a new harness or run a power wire. Would you happen to know the part number to the harness itself?

I'd call that salvage yard and have them get you the connectors out of the truck, if they still have the truck.

 

So you have the connector in your truck but not the seat?
Is that correct?
I'm not getting if the salvage yard cut off the connectors of the seat, or if you don't have the connectors in your truck.
You should at least have the small seat belt warning and air bag connectors in your truck.

There should be 3 connectors in your truck under the seat:
yellow air bag connector
P7 small white connector, seat belt warning and seat position air bag sensor
PZ1 a larger white connector but that may not be in your SR model.
If you're missing the PZ1, you could just find a constant 12 volt and ground to power the seat.

From what I can tell, the PZ1 connector supplies power to the power seat, mirror and telescopic steering wheel memory, seat heaters, and seat climate control.
The only 2 wires you will need from that plug is the hot and the ground.

You could bypass the connecters and use something else, spade crimp on connectors, or whatever multi wire connector you can find.
The other small white connector P7 has the seat belt switch wiring.

I just went out to my 2014 with my DMM to confirm the following.
It is an SR5 with the power driver's seat.

This is the female PZ1 that should be under the driver's seat from the truck or maybe not with an SR model.



Looking at that plug as pictured above;
the lime green wire (top left) is constant 12volts, it would connect to a white wire from the seat.
the white with black stripe (top right) is your ground, it would connect to same white w/ black stripe

 

thanks for this post... running a 2019 SR5 with 6 seats and no lumbar support, I don't need memory, just the power seats... found a few totaled tundras with seats priced at 299... thinking about getting them and 'testing'... maybe just use pwr and grnd


edit: confirmed I'm missing the PZ1 connector... looks like I'll have to run some wires, I'll probably in-line fuse it at the seat.

 

Just finished my swap...
My truck is a 2019 Sr5 with TRD offroad Package, it's the 6 seats so I don't have the "Sr5 Upgrade Package" (which includes power seats and adds a console).
I quickly realized on long trips, it's not comfy with the manual seat, yeah it gets the job done. but sucks on long road trips. back gets fatigued ratehr quickly. I've also realized I'm sitting up to see the road alot. so it's too short (I'm 5'11).
I thought the idea of taking my seat cushions and seat-belt wires, to an older seat with power controls. and saw the post above on the wires. I don't have that extra connector.

I found a local parts yard, they part it for you, the seat was $271.50 out the door, and they pulled it for me. And they added the pig-tail (about foot of wire) from the seat connectors, SCORE!
Condition of the seat, it was used, but fairly clean. small spill on the bottom cushion, no smoke smell, and it was not my color of interior. (mines black, this was dirty tan??)
got it home and slowly took it apart down to the skeleton.
then did inventory on the wires (pic 1), the harness PZ1 connector has ALOT of wires, I suspect for heat/memory settings, but the seat side, only had the two pins for power. so I hooked up the battery (pic 3)
everything works with just power, making sure all movement is good, I took my seat out of the truck.
with Key off, I unplugged my seat (pic 2), and dis-assembled as the same. making note on what I learned from the other seat.

NOTE: I used my original airbag no problem, seat buckle and seat position sensor... it fits. barely.

The top cushion was practically identical. it's the bottom that I ran into differences.
I don't know how to explain it, but the front of the electric has the 'knee' lifter, which is different design as the manual, so the cushion wasn't sitting down... I had to rip it down and 'de-stuff' the foam in that area of the cushion.
the fabric on the bottom also doesn't match, I just stretched (front sides) it as best I could and found places for it to attach... best guess kind of action. the back of the sides also needed to stretch some... it's very tight.

then just made it was was working again outside the the truck, which is good cause I forgot to plug one of the motors back in. after every tested and secured, install was easy.

I ran a 10 GA wire directly off the battery into the truck. I have other projects I'll use the thicker wire for. then added a 30 amp fuse (probably need smaller, if anyone knows what they have).

all is good and I'm super happy. truck feels different while driving and can't wait for a long trip now. the support is where I need it.

Very nice mod. This is the exact same seating configuration I have on my 2020 CrewMax SR5. (I actually like having the extra seat in lieu of the console) And this mod is what I would like to do also. At at 57, my body is aching on the long haul trips and the 4 way basic manual adjustment is NOT the answer.

I have never bought from a junkyard. Do you carry a battery to see if it actually works before purchase? Or is there some type of return policy usually at junk yards. I hate to spend $271 for something that does not work when I get it home.

Which of your pictures, is the one I should compare to connects under my seat to see if there are pre-wire connectors in place already?

 

I bought sight unseen, called junkyard on the part I'm interested in, and they pulled it before I showed up. I did not test until I got home.

In retrospect, I'd do it again. A brand new seat from dealer is $3500+ if that.... Even so, the junkyard had a 15 day policy on this item, I asked. So ask around, I found this junkyard online nearby

The three plugs is what you want, I didn't have the large plug. I asked for the 12 inch pigtail to the seat they gave me 18 inches. The post by 1lowlife is accurate on plugs... Only two wires needed on that entire plug.

 

Going to attempt this soon. Hopefully the wreck yards in San Diego have a 3rd gen power seat laying around!

 

Just curious will switching to the power seat lower it more that the non height adjustable seat I have in my 16 SR5? or is it the same base just with power? I'm trying to get the seat lower.

Finally found a seat for a GREAT deal - junkyards north of me wanted $700 for the driver's seat, but then remembered about LKQ. Looked up on their site and saw that one of the semi-local LKQs (60 mi away) had the color and seat I wanted for $171. If I shipped it it would've cost me about $536 total, but I called the LOCAL LKQ (not the national hotline) and they were more than happy to look up my item number for me and ship it even closer (about 9 mi away). If you decide to go this route make sure you take a close look at the pictures and look up the VIN number of the source vehicle; they listed the interior as black but the pictures showed gray and the VIN also listed the interior as gray. They are also VERY specific, so if you don't ask for the seat belt buckle (which has one of the connectors) then just be prepared to do the swap yourself.

My swap was generally pretty easy - I did get worried because I couldn't find the seat occupancy sensor at first in the new seat. This freaked me out because the seat belt sensor wire shares the same plug as the seat occupancy sensor. After some digging though I found that the new seat just had the occupancy on the opposite side of the sensor on the manual seat. As someone mentioned previously, the harness fits, but is a little tight. What also surprised me was that I actually had the PZ1 Male connector wired up already from the factory (car is a 2014 SR). My fuse box cover also shows that there is a fuse for the front power seat, so perhaps that may be an indicator of whether or not you have the wire already installed. I also had a PZ1 connector on the seat, but it was a blank. I'm sure a Toyota bean counter somewhere is fuming LOL.

So were the 3 plugs on your old manual seat exactly what was needed on the power seat? I have a 14' manual with 3 plugs currently.

 

The middle plug in your picture I think are wires for the seat occupancy sensor and maybe the seat belt (it's been a while since I did this). I can't remember why, but I remember that I swapped over the seat occupancy sensor from the '14 to the new seat. (In my case, LKQ sold me the seat for cheap but they also took off the seatbelt and I think they may have cut the wire for the middle plug. The yellow plug is airbag and will be the same connector on the new seat. The big connector on the left is just a blank; if you disconnect the harness from your car to your plug, you'll see that there's actually no wires coming out of the back of that big plug. The connector for the harness should plug right up to provide power for the power seat.

 

Doh! I didn't even realize that big plug female end had no wires coming out of it. Thanks.

I am hoping to exchange my 2019 SR with a 2018 SR5 driver seat with a friends truck - I probably will just buy a rechargeable separate battery or something like that and ground it to the seat

 

Just run a fused line from the battery.
It isn't that hard, you can run it through this grommet in the firewall.
OEM fuse is 30 amp for both seats..
