Oil analysis report 1000 miles

Here are the results . Ill call them tomorrow to discuss the results.



I just called them to discuss the report . The lab technician failed to take into account that it was a brand new vehicle with only 1000 miles .

Silicone high level - Normal for new engine assembly due to sealants used . This should drop significantly by the 2nd and 3rd oil change.

Fuel dilution not uncommon and typical for combustion engines

Viscosity is slightly high for the type of oil ( max should be 7 , I am at 6.5 ).

Thoughts and opinions welcome . I will do another check at 5000 miles .

I just changed my oil at 1500 miles, i was surprised how dirty it looked with such low miles. I am a every 5k oil change person anyway.

Very interesting results, especially all the fuel in the oil.

Which company is this?
Usually I only see Blackstone lab tests. What made you decide to go with this different company?

 

What does something like this cost? Very interesting results, wonder where the fuel is coming from.

Interesting results, thank you for posting ! I wouldn’t be overly concerned, possibly do another sample at 2nd or 3rd oil change. A brand new engine will typically have lubes and micro debris present. Along with fuel blow by at the rings until properly seated. After 5000 miles foreign substances should decrease substantially after proper break in. I’ll be doing my first oil change between 1000 and 2000 mi. and expect to see minor metallic particles and discoloration at first change.

 

I didn't send mine off to Blackstone but this makes me glad I did an early change at 1139 miles. Maybe I'll do a Blackstone next time.

 

Im not concerned since its the first oil change. Contaminants from a new engine assembled could be the issue but now I have a base line to view.

Our business is in the US but I'm based in Canada and we used a local company for $25 .

 

these oil condition reports are nice, but to get to "how dirty" the oil is ISO 4406 particle counting is needed.

 

If that oil is already shot at 1,000 miles, I pity the fool who runs their new truck to the first 10k service on the factory oil.

 

Always changed oil first 500 miles. Have seen too many oil analysis like this to risk an engine failure.

I'm not entirely dismissing the results, BUT I would be more concerned if these results were from the 2nd or 3rd oil change. There's always a far amount of containments from assembly lubes in a brand new engine. That's why there is a break-in period. Doing an analysis during the break-in period seems a bit of a waste to me, but I'm old school.

This isn't focused at the OP, but more of a statement about the direction the comments on these types of threads tend to go:

I know a lot of people are looking for a smoking gun with the 3rd Gen and constantly trying to find fault with it. I own a 2022. I've got 21k miles on it. I like it. In fact, I enjoy the hell out of it. Check out my build thread if you want proof of the investment I've made into my truck. I'm 100% biased. If something happens to my truck like what happened to @HBV2017 or @northerntundra1...then sure, I'll be pissed and will probably change my tune. Maybe it'll even force me to give Ram a try (never owned one) because I've had bad experiences with every other truck maker too (Ford & GM/Chevy). But, until something happens to truck, I'm not going to spend my days looking for faults and over analyzing things.

I'm going to drive & enjoy my truck until the day I either 1) I run it into the ground (like I did with my 2nd Gen Taco) or 2) decide to upgrade (like I did with my 4R). Hopefully, that won't be for another 10+ years, but you never know. I could get t-boned tomorrow and total my truck. The RMS in my truck might have a defect in it and develop a leak tomorrow. I might spin a bearing next week because of a bad casting or defective seal. That's why I bought an extended warranty.

I'm not telling people to put their heads in the sand, but I am running out of stamina for the people who jump on the "sky's falling" bandwagon on the slightest whim.

I'll standby for the hate rain, assuming it's coming.

No one has said anything of the sort. I think most people aren’t shocked that the oil on a brand new engine is going to have some break in contaminants. This just comes off as being overly sensitive to others criticisms of a truck you didn’t design or build, frankly.

 

100% with you. I've got 15k miles on my truck and it's fantastic! If something happens that changes my mind I'll happily share it here. I'm hopeful/doubtful that, that will happen.

 

Not really, but ok. My post was more about comment trends in general. You're focusing it specifically to this thread, but I understand that perspective. I'm totally open to criticism of the 3rd Gen Tundra, but again...my patience if thin for people who provide criticism only for criticism's sake. I.E. To sensationalize stuff.

You interpret my post how you want. I see lately whenever you venture into the 3rd Gen forum, it's to participate in negative threads. So your interpretation of my post isn't all that surprising.

Also, based on your own post, you seemed surprised by the oil results.

 

Yes oil results were a tad surprising given it was just 1,000 miles sure, but nowhere did I allude to it being a red flag in regards to whether one should purchase a 3rd gen as you seem to be suggesting. I’m sorry you have noticed my presence on this forum open for public comment, and are offended by my frequenting of some 3rd gen threads that are related to problems they may have. Those threads get hopping and keep jumping to the top of the list, so I tend to check them out. Damn me sometimes I even comment.

Perhaps those threads are just plentiful, and I must have wrongfully thought I was allowed to engage in tundra related discussion on a tundra forum in regards to a vehicle that could be a prospective purchase. If you like I’ll just avert my eyes from the 3rd gen problem threads and purchase one in blissful ignorance in a few years.

All this from an oil analysis report…. Need some Midols up in here….

 

Changed my oil at 625mi over the weekend and it was dark, but this is coming from a severe used truck…short trips, lots of startups, etc. Replaced with Amsoil signature series and oem filter until dealer service at 5k mi.

 

Does Toyota use a break-in oil per say, or are they filling them up with synthetic at time of production?
