Leveling 22 Platinum with AVS/Air

I would guess that the inner fender liner needs to be pinned back so it doesn’t rub. On my 2012 I used a heat gun, warmed it up and then pushed it towards the front ( with gloves on ) and held it until it cooled. Then it stayed pushed in. Zero rub. I know people that push them in and blow a rivet or a screw with a a washer thru it

 

A long 3 day weekend called for lift kit installation and new wheels & tires for my Tundra with air ride so I wanted to post here as well! I installed the @ICON suspension Stage 4 kit paired with ReadyLift 2" lift kit for AVS/rear airbag trucks (they don't sell just the rear end components but thats all I used) for a solid lift while improving ride quality! I wasnt super fond of compensating lift with by only adjusting the ride height lever. Havingthe spacer seemed way better in my mind. Wheels are the new Method 318 in 18x9 +18 paired with Toyo's new Open Country R/T Trail in 35x12.5r18!!

so I went to my local Offroad Shop to get a quote on installation for the Westcott Kit and to see if they could get a better price on the wheels/tires etc. They are trying to talk me into ICON Billet UCA's stating that if I dont get the new UCA's the geometry etc will be all out of whack and ill cause damage. They also told me that the Westcott Preload Collar Kit is not going to give me a good ride at all. Any body have thoughts on all this mumbo jumbo. Im thinking they are just trying to get some more money out of me. I dont intend to Baja race this truck but would like to know the ride quality and capabilities of doing some light trail runs is there with the Westcott kit.

 

If they are talking about updating your entire suspension system (something like ICON, KINGS or FOX... then yes, that would be better than the Westcott lift (overall and in ride quality).... and yes, any 'Suspension lift' where there are new shocks, struts and UCAs will always be a better quality than a 'puck lift' or even the 'pre cuff lift from Westcott' that I installed. That is all true. The challenge with us (Our Platinum with AVS and air ride) is that I wanted to keep my AVS system functioning and I wanted to keep my stock air ride in the back (for future trade-in and Toyota warranty purposes).... and if I had ripped everything out and done an new suspension in the front and even new air ride in the back ... the OEM AVS would have ceased functioning and my guess is that it would have impacted the warranty... which in these trucks you need for sure.

As for a 'downgrade' as I mentioned, yes, the Westcott is slightly tighter than stock (which doesn't bother me as its all personal preference) but if you are hoping to never feel a pebble in the road... this isn't the vehicle you should be driving anyhow A complete suspension lift upgrade would be a higher-quality and also more expensive... it just would have not worked with what I wanted to maintain (with AVS, warranty and stock rear air). For me Westcott was a better overall solution and I'm happy with the quality.

 

So you went with the westcott front level and rear arms on your platinum? I am considering the same for my 1794. What is the difference between the westcott front level and say the rough country front level, do you happen to know?

 

Correct me if Im wrong here but the Westcott is a Collar Preload kit the Rough Country is a spacer kit. One moves the position the other adjusts the preload/height.

 

So in the rear did you use only the ReadyLift components? Sorry if I'm ignorant on how it works. I'm new to this and want to add a lift to my '23 Limited with Air Ride and AVS. Was thinking of just doing the Readylift to start, then upgrading the front if desired.

 

the rough country front level is a basic puck front level and the Westcott lift is a preload collar lift … they are similar however I’ve had vehicles with both types and prefer the preload collar lift.

also I got the full Westcott lift kit for the AVS/rear air trucks… front lift and replacement arms for the rear air (all in one package)…. Just to clarify

 

Yeah I knew what you meant on the westcott, I was looking at the same one but didn't know what the difference is between preload collar and puck lift. What makes you prefer the preload?

 

the slight increase in ride quality —puck levels can rattle your teeth a bit … and I prefer the Westcott preload collar lift for ride quality…. Neither will ever be as good as a full suspension upgrade - we just have so few options available if we want to maintain AVS and the original air ride.

Yes that's correct! I ordered the stage 4 Icon kit, so up front was all icon. Rear was icon shocks and all the Readylift rear parts! You could very easily do just the readylift kit to start and upgrade down the road!

 

With the Icon 4 installed the AVS controls no longer function, correct?

 

Need some guidance. Went by the TSB and adjusted the sensor bracket, checked it for a couple of days and readjusted for what the TSB recommends 35-45 mm, they were at 44 passenger 42 driver. Went for a 50 mile drive, came back home, and they are at 50mm maybe more. anyone know what is going on, and will this cause issues? That 50 mile drive was the nicest smoothest drive of any truck we have had.

 

There is a reset sequence that westcott outlines in their video. It will calibrate the ride height before travel. Check out their airbag arm video.

 

Is this factory arm you are adjusting? If so mine is different every time I turn the truck off by 1/4 to 1/2 inch. I finally just decided to roll with it. Ride is smooth and no one will notice 1/4” from side to side. Hell a tank of fuel will do that

 

yes sir factory, not so concerned with the ride height or side to side, as much as having it set properly so as not to potentially cause damage or overextend the shocks, or am I overthinking it?

 

Measure the difference up to the max height. That's what you have to play with.

 

small adjustments seem to make a big difference at a point. just drove it, adjusted it, reset the system, drove and checked. It is in the recommended range again. will drive more and re-check.

 

I fly home tomorrow. Truck has been sitting all of Feb so will do some measurements Monday

for me, my truck was squated in the back so a good bump on the road the suspension would bottom out. So I raised it so it was more less level with the front to add over an inch from the bump stops to the axle in the rear I only got to drive it twice before I took off for some sunshine but it road way better.
My truck is….and will stay 100% stock this time. Moving on from the lifts and big tires, but I will say, some of these 2022+ trucks that have leveled/ wheels and tires look awesome. I just don’t want another 10 years of crabby wife. I am going to pimp out the surf boat and buy a full suspension e-bike.

 

Drove the truck on all kinds of roads and speeds playing taxi and remeasured it from the time last adjusted and reset. It has a bit of rake, and the bump stops are 43mm drivers side, 48mm passenger side or so. It has gone back to that on its own, the ride is greatly improved, smooth as a lexus on the highway. Put on some weathertech mud flaps while I was under and around it(perfect fit), it has been real muddy around here and lots of it ends up on the power steps.

Would these be similar to the rough country pucks or are they similar to the westcott front level?

 

Rough Country... those are basic puck levels

 

So it was wet here today so I did not crawl under it. I measured ground to bottom of wheel well. Make sure the measuring tape sits infront of the centre cap of the wheel. I am 38.5" driver side, 38.25 passenger. its always those 2 measurements, but you never know what side you will get it on LOL

 

Great info thanks, ok, 38" drivers, 38 3/16 passenger , tires set at 36 psi. Looks pretty good then. Ride is quite good.

 

Hey, do you have the before and after measurements from center of wheel to fender? If not, do you have your current center of wheel to fender?

 

somewhere deep in this thread the dudes like Me that didn't want lift for tires and just get off the bump stops and better ride ..... 38" was the number. What I went with. Where I will leave it LOL
