It’s “only a handful of trucks”. I’d say the thing to consider is only a handful of trucks have 35k+ miles at this point in their life. The handful may turn to an armful as these trucks get higher miles would be my concern.

I know people like to dismiss some of the Tundra issues as not a big deal for a new model, but these engines popping with decent mileage on them has me worried.... It seems likely that they can prematurely fail after warranty, and someone's gonna be on the hook for some pretty expensive repairs

In Canada the Toyota dealers are part of a network where the info is shared as far as vehicles repairs go.
All it takes is a call to the dealer, you provide the VIN and they can give you any dealer repair history.
We did this when we bought the 2017 4Runner.
I called my local Toyota dealer - they verified the vehicle had been bought and serviced at another and provided details.
The local dealer did tell me they have no access to US vehicles info.
Are the repair histories not shared between Toyota dealers in the US too ?

If the service is done at a Toyota dealer, its recorded with the VIN, and will show up for future owners. The systems are different for US and Canada, so US dealers cannot see Canadian vehicles info and vice versa.

Most likely placed for sale as is only highlighting all existing warranties remain in affect. That said, all should have been listed on the Vehicle and Car Fax report and the dealer was aware this impacts sale price.

True, there is buyer beware if all information disclosed. Trying to see positive intent here and coming up empty on the miss with only explanation they were protecting resale cost. Pretty shady operations with potential for legal action by the buyer.

Hmmm.....Or dispose of a stolen one.
So the US and Canada Toyota Dealers don't share records....eh
    That explains this.

I know someone many years ago that had a '98 or '99 Black 4Runner ltd.
Bought it used privately. All transfer papers were honored.
He knew it was from the US originally, but No red flags with Insurance or the Ministry of Transportation Ontario.
This Black 4Runner was serviced at Ontario Toyota dealerships and warranty work honored.

He goes to trade it in later - 8 years later ! - for a Honda vehicle.
The trade with the Honda dealer went ok - papers signed.
    Honda Dealer wholesaled it.
This guy gets a call from the Honda dealer a week later and was told that the wholesaler called the dealer back and said this thing is stolen!

His Black truck had been given the VIN of another 4Runner a White/Cream one in the US. A good not stolen 4Runner.
Both these trucks his black and the white one had regular service performed on them including warranty work at Toyota dealerships in the US for the White one and Canada for his Black one.
So Apparently there were two sets of service repairs at Toyota for the same VIN.
How messed up is that. No flags raised.

In the end the black truck was returned to the owner in the US.
It was valued at around $8000. The Honda dealer asked him if I recall for half to settle this and he agreed.

@wedemmoez we all appreciate your honesty and I really think Toyota has a great quality control philosophy. Is there anything you can share with regards to the longevity of the TTV6?

Also, please be careful what you share as you’ve already told us 2 of your current vehicles. your previous vehicle and which region you work in. I don’t want you to get called out or fired for answering our questions.

Has anyone scoured the Lexus LX or LS boards to see if they are seeing the same issues?

I’m not on the mechanical side of things, so I’m not aware of any specifics on the engine.
As far as remaining anonymous, my username includes my actual name, so tracking me down isn’t hard at all. I’m fact, I use the same name on my socials so give me a follow on instagram or twitter lol.

I haven’t posted anything that’s confidential or privileged, so firing is a stretch, I think they might be annoyed that I’m saying stuff that isn’t the company line.

Maybe but @hagrid has still not shipped me the Spraynard Tundra trans cooler I paid him for a year ago. He keeps telling me his plutonium supplier is on backorder. I'm starting to wonder if it's legitimate.

Thank you for info. Interesting, two failures with build dates 10/21 and 11/21. It doesn’t prove anything but makes me wonder if it is a certain lot of 3.5TTs, similar usage around 35k, failed oil pump, antifreeze entering oil or other. Time will tell. Really hoping it ends here for all our benefit.

I'm no Guru but I would agree and could only hope that pump failure is the culprit, not only is this a serious inconvenience to you and your family but the whole down lag of a possible e swap and the headaches that follow along with this episode.
Sorry to hear about this and plz keep us up-to-date on a resolution.

Well, Mr. Fussy Britches, it turns out one of the components to my Spraynard "Sub-Zero" transmission cooler is a big-end bearing shell. And wouldn't you know it, it's the same bearing used in the TT V6.

I can't get ahold of them now for some reason.

I guess if you tell the dealer your trading in about the issues they might know, but probably not. I would take it and trade it the day I got it back from the shop before they could even enter any date into the computer..lol
