General Supercharger Thread

Well, if anyone has a non-FFV and $3k right now, here's a complete kit ready to go. Seller says it has 4k miles and he'll even do half now and half on delivery.

 

I have 27 days to get the SC on, just made an appointment for 3/27 at Xact.

 

Damn man, where were all these smoking deals when I bought my assembly only last year for $3500!

 

You should do it! You have 2 tuners in your home state who are capable of tuning the FFV trucks properly so don’t let that stop you. That is a crazy deal.

Is there a difference as far as the supercharger kit is concerned?

 

There is no difference in the hardware. You can install that on your truck and get a custom tune by DAP and Prospeed no problem.

Need to figure out 2 things: carb sticker? what tune does it come with?

Well the FFV pump that’s stock in your truck a lot of people leave in as it flows more than the non FFV pump. Either way though if you bought it I’d recommend installing a larger pump and injectors, and getting a custom tune anyway so neither of those even matter. Then just run it on 93. The supplied injectors and pump with the magnuson aren’t really sufficient either way.

 

I emailed Magnuson about the belt & carb stickers & got this:

Carb stickers are $25+ 4.50 for shipping and a belt diagram is $15. To send a carb sticker I need a picture of the vin, engine bay, and close up shot of the SC pulley showing the part number.

Seeing as I don't need CARB, think I'll live without the sticker.

 

Thanks for checking on that. I know its possible to get it after the fact because if you aren't from CA that sticker goes in the trash

I can only send out the belt routing diagram. The carb sticker can only be used on a kit that we made the tune for which is only for new kits.

OMG, I was leaning toward Magnuson but I didn't really want to buy more stuff. Is a custom tune required because I have no idea where to even start with that. This is getting more complicated! Is the whipple kit ok to run their tune that comes with the kit. I would not be changing any pully's to get more power as this is my daily driver so hopefully stock airbox is fine! Thanks for the info, now Im second guessing this!

 

There's definitely more to it than slapping on what's in the box. Tune is necessary for peak performance - you paid for it, might as well get it.

 

Modding is a rabbit hole, once you go in, all is lost!

But it's great fun!

Pretty sure you wrote the book!

 

It's not required, but will make the engine happier and improve power and drivability. You're going to have to flash a tune either way, just a matter of if it's the Magnuson or one from a variety of companies. Imo if you're already $8k deep what's another couple hundred to improve everything, including reliability. But strictly speaking, no an aftermarket tune is not required.
