Been a HOT minute since I have had anything in the way of updates to bring into here. My CBI rear bumper's powdercoat fail so there's been a bit of a saga going on to get that taken care of. Now that we're back to a new bumper though we have a bunch of things coming!

New Bumper Installed - Not ALL buttoned up yes as you can see since we have some goodies coming :spy:

Photos showing the new bumper's design changes.
    • New beveled flange to avoid contact with tailgate during opening. I personally don't feel as though they began the notching quite far enough back as the tailgate comes VERY close at the ends of the notching. I'm curious to see if I draw any vertical contact in a scenario where I have an open tailgate and some decent weight sitting on it, but we shall see! As it stands right now though I can happily report that I have noticed NO CONTACT.
    • Notching of bumper on either side of license plate. I believe this to be where the swingout would latch in.
    • At corners or "bumper caps" the end itself is now threaded and came with flat plates to screw in since I don't have the swingout. There's also holes punched in the top for where the swingout pivot would sit.

How far the old bumper had fallen off from its original form. Clearly just a case of bad prep IMO for it to degrade this much in less than a 6 months.

The flat edge that was contacting the tailgate vs the new beveled edge.

All-in-all I'm happy to have found some resolution here, and ready to get back to wrenching on this thing!

What about the fitment between BSM pockets and corner of the bedsides? Did this also get some resolution?

THAT did not change. Forgot to mention that. There's still some contact there that I will be messing with.

Wow I didn't realize it was that bad. That's perfect for someone's rat rod Tundra. Hit it with clear, Sawzall off the offending section and mark it up 200!

SO MUCH has been done to this build over the past week or two. Can't wait to get some time to jot it all down, but here's some cliffs notes...

    • Modified CBI bumper (again)
    • Fully completed bed rack/tent setup
    • Lots of easter eggs and a couple of custom bits
I'll punch it all up soon with pics as soon as I can!

Powder coating and salt are a bad combo.

    Big time
Agreed. We don’t salt roads here in MT though, and that old one started falling apart before the snow even started flying!

Lucky you guys with no salt. They salt here in Ct and NY likes its no ones business ,plus its often treated with mag chloride i believe and it just destroys everything it touches in fast time.

This build... Is. Not. Dead. :spy: Far from it. We may have built a couple of SEMA trucks.
