I just brought home a new-to-me 2005 Tundra Longbed V8 4WD with only 25,500 miles! I’m the 3rd owner, and the previous two were both grandpas who owned it in their later years. Had to drive a few hundred miles for it, and tow it home on account of the timing belt and old tires, but I started cleaning it up today, in the rain. Very excited to get some new rims/tires and a bit of maintenance done to get it up to speed. Hopefully I can work on it myself in the future, but for now I don’t have the time or tools to do much mechanically.

thanks for everyone that chimed in on my original post about it. I got the price down from $16k to $10k, which makes it that much sweeter.

You can see my other truck in the background as well.

Wow, congratulations! For the 4WD, I'd drive across the country for it. If it were an Access Cab or Double Cab, I'd fly across the country.

A little RugDoctor work on the carpet and upholstery will make it feel like new.

It truly is a gem. I'd bet you'll be driving it when you're a grandpa!

Man that truck looks nice! If it lacks cruise or intermittent wipers like mine did, they’re easy to add. Power windows and locks aren’t too hard to add either. That’s basically a new truck for $10k! Wow!

Ah, the ever-elusive manual-power windows

That's not a hard upgrade to manage, going to PW/PL. Someone else here on the 1st Gen forum has already done the legwork on it. Wish I could remember who it was.

WOW! Nice find! That's a lottery winner there! Nice to see an old school daycab too! Well, yeah, that's what I call em anyway, trucking term.

IMO, forget PW/PL or power anything. Keep it simple, and you'll only have simple problems.

    Best of luck with it!

I was thinking $16k wasn't terrible, but $10k is such a solid price. I don't know if I would mentally think of all $6k that way, but you have lots of upside already if you want to send her to a mechanic to get sorted and baselined. Please stick around and let us know what you end up doing.

    Congrats.

That looks like the grey my Katzkin is matched to. The bench is different than mine. More of a full bench than my 60/40.

manual windows aren’t a big deal to me. Less stuff to break. Keyless entry is nice though.

    welcome to the party.

I already had intended to pick up a car that would need some sort of improvement, either with maintenance or suspension work, so I'm happy with the price. Stock lift with some new tires and rims should cut it for Baja, I'll be getting the engine work up to speed, and will likely hunt around for a cool camper. I'm hoping to find an 8ft flippac.

Did you happen to do a Carfax report on it? Does the 25K miles seem legit?

Show us a pic from under the valve covers if you refresh the gaskets/FIPG. I'm sure they're pretty dried up at this point, but maybe you're lucky and they're not leaking.

Two old dude owners, one of whom he met, I wouldn't expect anything different. But that doesn't mean problem free, if anything it's a concern over say 100-150k which would be the ideal mileage at this age.

Like as in scratches to the inside and out? Probably more a matter of old man driving skills and overall cleanliness than actual mileage? But I hear ya. Does it look clean is what you're asking?

The photos I saw looked fairly clean but seat cloth can get gross if spills sit for a while.

Yes, wear and tear. I have seen low mile vehicles that there is no arguing the mileage, then I have seen 'low mileage' vehicles that had wear you would see at 100-250K on certain parts of the vehicle-steering wheel, door sills, carpet, seat bolsters, shift knob, etc.

I did. Mileage definitely looks legit. I would say the wear on the car definitely leads me to believe it has 25k miles. Basically spotless besides caked dust I was able to remove with a damp rag.

About to drop it off at the mechanic. I’m not too keen to drive it much before it gets the maintenance it needed last decade. I imagine timing belt and a fluid swap are first up after the Tires are put on.

Great job getting it down to $10k! You can take care of a LOT of issues with that $6k you saved!

Was watching your other thread, can you share what you said/found that made the grumpy old man dropped the price like free fall?
To drop $1-$2K seems ok, but to drop $6K when he was stating "I know what I got kid, move along asx xxxx" type of attitude to all of a sudden agreeing to $10K cash...

His family stepped in. His daughter-in-law was managing the ad, and after a few issues with the owner, I tried speaking with his family in regards to setting up the deal and agreeing on an appropriate price. The owners son came into town, dropped the price to $10k firm, and agreed to hold onto the car for me while it took me a day or two to get to him.

Quite lucky frankly. I've had cars sold under my nose as I'm driving to them, so it was refreshing to deal with someone honest and that kept it simple. The ad was up for 4 months, and I think I was first in line when they finally decided it was time to get rid of the truck.

The 16k price was due to a KBB look up for a DCSB Limited V8 4WD, which was obviously incorrect, when the initial ad was made. It was even listed as such.

Glad it worked out. I have had cars sold before I arrived as well. As a seller, with many many flakes, it's hard not to take the first cash offer that shows up in your driveway. I don't hold cars for anyone anymore after getting burned so many times.

Ah.... that make sense, wrong trim and more sensible minded people would make more sense of a deal.
Good luck and lucky score on a nice truck.
Now, get ready to empty your wallet for all the repair (kidding) and mods/upgrades (not kidding)...

Speaking of which, you work for the forest department or just happen to live where the trees are denser than human?
