Update: My windshield finally came in and it's due to be replaced Monday. I guess they need extra time with it since it's the first 2022 they've worked on. I hope to be back on the road soon and continue enjoying my truck. It's been killing me seeing it sitting in my driveway for close to a month.

While leaving the Toyota dealer parking lot, the Tundra windshield broke from a stress crack. Temp. wasn't much below freezing. This was not a rock chip. The crack started at the bottom edge, running vertically in between the wipers.
Would I have better luck with aftermarket glass or Toyota acoustic glass ? Thanks in advance.

Had to replace my windshield last March due to a crack from a rock strike. Used Glass America at the objection of my insurance company. The insurance company insisted that I use Safelite but I refused and went with Glass America. I had absolutely no issues. The new windshield arrived from Toyota in three days, Glass America took approximately 3 hours to install the new windshield and calibrate the sensors and cameras. Everything worked great.

Yep, ADAS can be a pain to recalibrate on site. Safelite experimented with it for a while with mobile options, but too many issues. Need level ground and exact measurements to targets. 1 degree off = 70ft variance for the sensors.

My truck has a crack, the dealer discounted the cost of the windshield from the purchase price, but a replacement is 6 months out . I took it to a glass shop and had them squirt that resin in it to stop it from spreading till a new one comes

Running the defroster shouldn't crack the glass. Sounds like a problem with the factory install. Whether the seal is too firm, the truck frame doesn't fit the contour of the glass, or toyota glass is poor quality. Now I've got five miles on the odometer, I've noticed the fan makes a loud whistling sound, is this normal; or should I ask the dealer about it ?

Has anyone tried windshield film? It’s basically like PPF but designed for windshields. Expensive.. but wondering if it will actually prevent chips.

Up here in the Northeast we replace windshields often due to chips turning into cracks quickly.

We had a friend whipping down the highway in a Lexus and his whole moonroof shattered for no reason. Covered everyone in the cockpit in glass
