Rad hose clamps

Just looking for some advice / opinion on some Rad hose clamps. I want to change my current clamps (factory constant pressure style - 8 yrs old) as I noticed a tiny seep of Rad fluid around the hose end. I do not really feel like draining Rad and popping the hoses off to put the same style of clamp on. Has anyone tried the T-bolt style clamp for Rad hoses, they look like they would be stronger and more durable than a $2 gear hose clamp. Thanks for any input !

 

Is your coolant also 8 years old?

 

No no, this coolant is only 1 yr old, I guess I should have changed them when I last did the coolant but for a couple of reasons it didn't happen. Just wondering if there any decent clamp recommendations without pulling the hoses off and draining down the system. Thanks

Ya, hind sight 20/20. If I was going to change coolant this year, no brainer on the clamps I would just do the factory ones again and toss on new hoses as well for good measure. I like the t bolt style
Clamps but I have read that they may not do as good of a job as the factory ones.

 

Which hose end? I went down this rabbit hole and in the end bought new OEM clamps as the others always seeped/leaked. Buy this pair of pliers

I used one of the clamps you have pictured. My factory clamp on my 2021 was allowing the top radiator hose to leak on the engine side. So far this one hasn't leaked.

I have bought these two, not sure which one I used on the Tundra but will look later today. Others were used for Subaru and or boat.

Problem with these is you don't know how much force is being applied to the outlet. The OEM clamps have the correct amount of force. Not saying those won't work, but why not just use OEM instead of possibly cracking the radiator outlet?

 

Well, my factory one was new and leaking. So they don't all have the correct force. At least with these you can adjust the force.

 

I got one of these tools for working on Hondas and while it sits in the box taking up space most the time it's invaluable when you need it.

 

How many miles? Original hose also?

 

I bought the truck new in 21 and it only had a few miles on it. Drove probably 300 miles before I was going to install a spin on filter system and posted pictures here and someone commented that it looked like I had a radiator leak. Sure enough the top engine side was leaking. I tried to reseat the clamp and that didn't work either.



New clamp that I used. Haven't had any issues since.

 

That is strange. Could have been poorly made clamp, hose or both. Was it out of warranty already also?

 

Yeah, who knows. Maybe Covid part. It was under warranty since it was new and only had 300 miles on it but I work from home and it would be cheaper to replace the clamp myself than drive to the dealer and back burning gas.
