Hey guys so I’m planning lift my 03 4wd access cab and I just wanted some input and advice on some of these coilovers I’ve wanted to go with. So I’ve been doing research and I’ve came down to 3 choices between dobinsons ima coilovers,Ironman foam cell pro coilovers and fox 2.5 non resi coilovers and I just wanted to see if anyone could chime in on there experience or knowledge on all of these shocks. My full plan was to lift it anywhere between 2-3 inches with full armor all around and most likely 33s so and advice would be helpful thank you guys in advanced

I have been looking at those same three options, and personally don't think you can really go wrong with any of those choices, For me it will probably come down to availability and finding a local shop. I keep leaning towards the Iron Man but Robinson just came out with a new design very similar to the Iron MAN kit.

It’s more toward the 3rd gen and tacomas that’s probably why,I’ve heard of them but never really paid attention to it

I have mine cranked a little higher than recommended, and they ride really nice in my opinion. I plan to replace the 5100’s on the Tundra with them.

I haven’t noticed any leaking. We live on a pretty rough road and they get worked.

I haven't personally used them, but the more i look the more they keep popping up. Lot of people like them for reliability and ride.

Will admit I'm biased towards Fox since they're serviceable and parts are normally available. This is regarding "Factory Series" and up. Then, Icon. Haven't heard of the other two brands, but it's always important to find out if you can get service from anything down the road.

@FirstGenVol could chime in. He's had no issues. I've seen plenty of speculation that Icon had a short stint of manufacturing issues a couple years ago and that's led to the leaking issues some reported. There are plenty of shops near me who install Icon exclusively for 2000s Toyotas. I had a candid conversation with one of the owners known for overland builds nearby. He basically told me, paraphrased, "Yes. It happens with all brands. Your risk is very low with Icon, and it's a fraction of a percent we've seen problems, which is virtually never considering how many we install. I'll install anything you want, but if you're turned off to Icon because of a couple of complains online from individuals, and what I'm saying about actual return/leaky body issues, there's nothing I'm going to say to sway your opinion anyway".

That said, if budget is no option, go ballzout. If budget is a concern, both Toytec options available for the 1GT are respectable. The Aluma Boss are just rebranded Elka product, and Elka has a really solid reputation, rebuildable with readily available parts, and front COs can be had as low as $800.

No issues with my ICON's after around 20-25k miles. They are fine on pavement but I don't love them off-road. I may switch to Kings one day when these wear out.

Between the two, Kings have better reviews on our trucks.

For what terrain though. I think all the big 3 are valved for different terrain. Where Kings and Foxes may work better in desert mid speed, Icons are better valved for DD and “overlandy” type activities.

Kings I believe still use raw aluminum and can see corrosion in non California/ desert environments. Aluminum Fox’s are coated and steel foxes are galvanized.

I have Kings on the Dodge, Icon on the Sequoia, Fox’s on the RZR and Rock Buggy.

If overlanding mostly involves slower speeds wouldn’t icon not be preferred since it’s stiff on slow speeds and going over bump at slow speeds?

And that's been exactly my experience. Here our trails can require going pretty slow and it will beat you to death in the cab.
