What have you done to your 2.5 gen Tundra today?

Replaced my battery last night. I had ran a few errands during the day, parked for a few hours at home, went to leave and a click and all the lights went out. I guess the garbage factory battery is a real thing, 2020 with 39k miles. Jumped it off and drove straight to O’Reilly for a replacement.

Battery life span in the heat is 2.5 to 3 years.

 

You know, I keep seeing this...but I've got 45K on my '20, and I've had the battery tested. I'm just waiting for it to die, but as of yet it's perfectly good. *shrug*

 

The climate where you live has a big effect on a battery.

 

I live in the orange area and routinely get 5-6 years out of batteries. Factory or otherwise.

 

On all my previous trucks I’ve always gotten to 5 years plus and replaced them preventively. Usually they got weak or slow to start, never just completely died out of the blue. Guess they don’t make them like they used too

 

Given the state of the world the last few years, I wouldn’t be surprised if we start seeing batteries failing sooner than we used to. Every piece of technology I’ve touched in the last 2-3 years (and I work in the field) has had more issues and failures than we’ve seen in the past decade. Companies are cranking stuff out as fast as possible to try and keep up with the demand and they are having to use sub par components to make it happen.

 

I once had a 93 Camry. Replaced factory battery in 2002. It's been going downhill for a while now. But yes, I agree, def getting worse.

 

My last Tundra, which was a 2006, had the original battery until 2018. It almost became a running joke because it wouldn't die. lol.

 

Yes, but that was a battery made in 2006. How long did the one you buy in 2018 last?

 

I don't know, I sold the truck a couple months later. Either way though it's still way outside the rated lifetime.

 

Worked fine this morning. I'll keep an eye on it. Mine appears to be that last production run where they went to the thinner faceplate. I found revised instructions online dated Nov 2019 and they stopped making them in July 2020. These instructions show the nylon spacers that createe the cleaning gap between the faceplate and the sensor. I'll take pics showing the thickness between the 2 Jomax plates and the AJT plate. The AJT plate is way too thick which I believe is the cause of most issues.

 

Ya my 2001 lexus GS300 had its factory battery till about 2016? maybe longer

Granted when I got rid of it in 2020 it had 150,000 miles and still had original rear brakes lol

 

Got the tuffy center console safe installed. It was really easy and seems solid. Added combo lock instead of key so I wouldn’t have to kill the engine in order to access. I added an organizer off Amazon to sit on top so I can still store my usual crap in there. I also have the under rear seat gun safe by them and love it as well.

 

So sorry for the accident but glad everyone is ok and the Tundra did it's thing.

 

I'm on my 3rd battery for my 2017, mfg date of 10/2016. The 1st on lasted 22 months, and 2nd lasted under 38 months here in PHX, AZ area.

 

It was a Nissan Altima. Yes I had my hitch in, which took most of the brunt. I do have some pictures but don’t know if I should post them in a public forum since the guy that hit me shouldn’t have been driving (if you catch my drift.) Don’t know if me posting anything would jeopardize anything related to that.

 

I say post them. It's not illegal unless there is some sort of criminal investigation.

 

If you want to post the pictures I would block all of the license plates and faces of people if any of those are present. That way you wouldn't be showing anything that would be incriminating.

That’s why I’m hesitant since the other driver was impaired and arrested. Does me sharing the pictures jeopardize anything related to that? I’d love to get yalls opinions on the damage though.

If you are suing him and the owner of the vehicle if different I wouldn't. Since he was arrested your lawsuit would be very strong.

 

He’s got insurance so it should be covered. No one was injured. Lawsuit hadn’t even crossed my mind so I don’t think it’s going that route.

 

You could PM them to @Jim LE 1301 for his opinion before you post them.

 

You may have to if they total your Tundra, just keep that in mind.

Ugh. Hadn’t thought of that. Would sharing them via pm be ok? I'd just like to hear opinions from other folks who’ve had similar accidents. To me it’s on the edge of fixable vs. not.

Yeah, the white one is what I’m looking for. I know it just came up in another thread, maybe the FRAC harness one or the Rago dash mount. I just can’t find it again.

 

Well, almost gave my Tundra an accident today except for that annoying pre collision warning system that saved my ass. I was putzing with my phone when the guy in front of me stopped for no apparent reason and the beeping made me look up. Whew…

Then stopped for a photo op after working out on the base.
