    Hey All,

I have had the slap sound at idle coming from my 5.7l for some time, that I suspect is the timing chain tensioner. Talk to my mechanic and they said parts are $3100 CAD from Toyota and on back order. Wondering if anyone knows of any decent aftermarket kits that aren't going to bankrupt me, but still of decent quality?

I'd go online at said stealership and check out their price there... usually it is 50% cheaper than at the parts counter. I got an OEM radiator at the stealership for $225 at the stealership, and it was $480 at the parts counter, if you're closer to the border, see if its cheaper on the U.S. side and pick it up, since shipping will probably be through the roof and negate any savings. Hope this helps

If you suspect the tensioner, there are inspection ports and your mechanic can look at them if not done so already. They have A LOT of adjustment unless stuck.

I suspect my tensioner! Are you talking about looking through the oil fill tube?

No, there are inspection ports on the timing cover right in front of each main tensioner.
