Good advice. The last time we were up in the PNW the fires were bad. The smoke followed us all the way east to ND/SD and Colorado wasn't great either. That was in 2018 if I remember correctly.

Last year in CO it was mild...thankfully. Normally by July my view from my patio is all but gone due to all the smoke.

Generally speaking the fires are not a problem. Maybe for a few days or a week, but not constant and some summers we have no smoke.

If you want to go whale watching then that should be your primary date selector. It is getting harder and harder for those guides due to increased laws and reduced population.

When is the opportune time for that then? August right?

Dunno. I’ve actually never been. Just laughed at all the boats ripping around Puget Sound packed with tourists.

I’d start calling the local guides and see what they say. Besides Orca, I’m not sure what else there is in the region

or... you could just take @gosolo up on his offer. Drive straight to his place; pick up a nice quality tactical skinner; and carry that when you are in a non-permissive environment!!! Seems like a win-win

Yeah, good call here. If your primary objective is orca spotting, that should set your dates! I'm not sure when that is either. (But we did see some in mid-July off the Olympic peninsula in 2021. Not up close, but from the beach. Not sure about when they're in the sound.)

It's not the primary reason to vacation to WA. There is still plenty of sight seeing and what not.

Great idea on calling tour guides.

I have the Valvomax as it doesn't hang down like the Fumoto and its stainless and not brass. Too many stories about people ripping out the Fumoto.

The filter housing wrench for the alloy housing I bought, works well.

Really? Ripping out the Fumoto during the install or catching it on things during driving?

Was down in Portland yesterday and stopped at Sam’s NW BBQ store. Figured I’d post my thoughts since there are a lot of smokers here…
    • Huge Yoder dealer with a large variety in stock to fondle. Plus lots of accessories. Also sells Myron Mixon’s line of pellet smokers and pellets.
    • Nice, large variety of rubs and sauces.
    • Carry both pellets (3 brands) and chunks of smoke wood.
    • Has lots of BBQ gear…gloves, spray bottles, butcher paper, etc.
    • I’ve emailed Sam a few times and he’s always been responsive. He and his son were both very friendly.
I was hoping for some trailer pit smokers to rub up against, but doesn’t look like he stocks those anymore. Now if he’d only start selling Pitts and Spitts smokers!

Not sure it's anyone from here... Carfax showed 2 owners in 2.5 years :notsure:, but both were registered in OR...

I will say our local dealer had a 2020 Pro w/38k miles on it last summer. It was originally listed at 60,500 and sat for a few months. They dropped it down to mid 50s and it still sat for a couple of more months. It finally sold to someone out of the area.

Not sure they'll see $60k+ for it, but will probably get mid-$50s... which based on MSRP would definitely be good retention in value over 2 years!

Anyone tow a travel trailer on 37s? How does the truck handle it? Wife wants my 35s on her 4runner. Says her 33s look tiny haha.
