What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

I sanded my roof in preparation to put some paint on it tomorrow.

 

To be fair, the brakes on our trucks are not great for stopping, especially carrying alot of weight or in towing. Thus the reason brake upgrade is such a common mod for 1st gens. Perhaps you were unaware, but that would've been the time to do it, rather than buying new stock calipers.

 

Oh I know about the brakes, I tow a fair bit.
I have the 13WL calipers, so not a lot to be done unless I went all out.

 

I did 6200 lbs to the transfer station yesterday and have no complaints about my brakes. I actually kinda like them.

Yes this is normal. I don't like it but that's just the way they are. The OEM reman CV axles seem nice but no one was aware of them when I did my axles a while back.

went with Archive MD springs. I have a shell and a platform in the back so maybe 300lbs of constant weight. Eric at archive is super nice and helpful, he can help you decide which ones to get. Solid wait times for these, ordered back in November. I will update my build page with official lift numbers after install

 

Greased all of the driveshaft zerks but the front 4wd driveshaft. Forgot I needed my needle fitting to get it in there.

Also changed the rear differential. Didn’t get time to do the front or transfer case.

I grabbed this pic when I had it sanded down but it didn’t attach. It was a duplicolor spray can job but I thought it looked about as good as I can do myself. I painted it yesterday so I will grab a picture today. Thanks!

Bill what'd you decide on for propeller shaft lube? Service Manual recommends two different but very similar kinds of grease (everything but double cardan joint gets lithium-based, but double cardan joint gets moly disulphide lithium) but I'm always interested to see what "works".

 

I had the same concern awhile back and I believe the consensus was that using the same grease for all zerks including the double cardan was perfectly fine. At least thats what ive been doing the past 2 times ive done it! Hopefully this is correct.

 

I've always been doing synthetic moly for both since I didn't want two grease guns. Probably not the best approach since you're not supposed to use moly for the prop shaft and this is maybe the reason I'm now have some intermittent vibration at 65mph and 75-80 mph. Probably one of the U-joints going out prematurely but it's either that or not greasing it often enough. I would hope the latter.

The only synthetic non-moly lithium grease I can find is Super Lube and that stuff is 3-4x more expensive. Amsoil makes some as well that's affordable but it's not lithium based. They use some calcium-sulfonate compound instead. Not sure if that's acceptable or not.

I used the Valvoline synthetic multi-purpose grease rated NLGI #2/GC-LB. You can pick it up at Napa for ~$12. Autozone states they have it but all the ones around me are just dented/punctured cartridges like they're not restocking anymore.

 

How many of each of these suckers and the cowl fasteners? 4-5 or 6-10?

Finished up getting my new amp, distribution block, and wiring for future 3 way in place tonight. I need to clean up the install and chase down some buzzing (ground loop?) but everything is working otherwise.

 

Is that all OEM stuff? I got the rear section (part with the muffler) aftermarket for somewhere around $150. I can tell it wouldn't last too long if I drove in the salt. Bet that OEM stuff is a bit better.

 

It is indeed OEM from stealer. While talking with Keith at DD’s about his 12 holes, I was further convinced going back OEM was what I wanted to do.

 

My man chopped his door panels in the name of sound. Cringe. And respect.

 

How much did that run you? I've considered OEM for crackie all the way through. Painting it all blaaaaaaaack or maybe light blue like everything else.

Also considered aftermarket.

Interesting. My 02 Tundra has both the muffler and resonator as one connected unit with exhaust piping that sells for $650 (or was the 10 years ago I bought it).

 

I'll have time a bit later to look into this but I figured I'd post here briefly.
Yesterday my headlights quit working. Hi's & lows. I do have the bigger gauge wire/relay mod & higher wattage bulbs.
I did a quick check on fuses & didnt see any blown. Figured I'd posty posty to the smarties before I get more time to dig in later...

 

I about to add the bigger headlight harness with relays and 100W/90W Osram halogens. Maybe the relay(s) failed?
