Wanted to make this thread for anyone experiencing a severe rattle in their rear window while driving with it down. I've seen a few others on the forum experience this problem and it is affecting me as well. Hoping to get a gauge of how many people it is affecting and any fixes for it.

Not to derail, but I know this is an issue with 2.5 gens as well with no fix available.

Disappointing to hear it continues to be an issue...

I think mine does it. But it could also be my TCUSA canister that I’m only able to hear when the window is down. It’s not very noticeable at all.

I doubt there will be any official fix from Toyota as you’re not supposed to drive with it down.

This guy shows how to access the rear window cavity on the 2.5 gen. If your truck has a similar access panel, you could open it up, have someone else drive your truck while you sit in the back on the floor and figure out what it is rattling against. Maybe you could stick some adhesive foam somewhere in that cavity to dampen the rattling?

Is this for the CrewMax with the full roll down window or the DCs with the the small slider? I haven't experienced any issues with my slider.

I have a noticeable rattle from the full rear window when down. Very annoying, I’m hoping they have or come up with a fix soon. I love the idea of being able to drive with all 5 windows down but the rattle is loud enough to be disruptive.

Had this issue when I got my '20, drove me nuts for a long time. Just figured the box was noisy or something so I poked around checking the mounts etc and couldn't come up with anything.

Took it in to Toyota because my overhead console had popped loose and I thought a clip had broken off. Mentioned while it was in there that there was a pretty good rattle with the back window down at all. They said no prob, we think we know what the issue is. Got a call later that day that my overhead console was fixed, and they apparently placed some felt in certain spots where both the cable for the back window sits, and the tailgate cable sits. No more rear window down rattle. That being said, I do now have a rattle coming from my dash/windshield when it's -20 or colder, so I'm trying to track that down next lol

My 21 CM had a real noticeable rattle with the window down. Cleaning out all the empty beer cans in the bed fixed it.

I noticed a rattle earlier this morning with the window up. I just rolled the window down and back up and it was gone. Don't understand how it started since I haven't driven with the window down. I'm keeping an ear on it to see if it comes back.

Yep my rattles as well. Going to wait a few months to take it for first service and see if there’s a fix and same for my window seals.

My Limited CM has been trouble free after 2k miles except for the rear window rattle. It’s so bad I’m afraid to drive over any potholes or bumpy roads with the window down because I'm afraid it’s going to break.

I have a CM (SR5) and the window rattles when down as well. It's only got 800 miles on it. I'll have the dealer look at it when it's due for service, unless it drives me nuts and I make a special trip in...

I'm surprised it took so long for me to come across a thread about this actually. Mine rattles terribly. Also had the same thought as above that driving with it down on bad roads kinda scares me. It would suck to lose that window on a camping trip off in the sticks somewhere. I didn't ever hear the rear window in my '20 CM regardless of window position. Guess I'll add it to my list of things for the first service visit.

Mine was doing this for a while, but it has stopped now. I guess it may start again, but hopefully not. I read somewhere on the forums that it is the wire harness for the motor that is rattling around in there.

Seem to have fixed my issue ( Rattle with window up ). Took panel off and noticed the yellow clips from the outside, bottom weather stripping were tapping the glass. Had a lot of dirt build up. Cleaned that off. Also ran some tubing down the channel to push the seal closer to window. Think we good

Was that the suggested issue for the window down rattle?

OK relieved it's not just me which I assume means Toyota will release a TSB with an official fix at some point. When my window rear window (SR5 crewmax) is not all the way up, it rattles pretty bad over bumps. Anyone else have a first-generation Land Rover Discovery with rattling sunroofs? It's just like that sound. It's very annoying.

No one needs to be afraid of it breaking though. This type of glass needs pretty strong direct impact trauma to break. It's likely that there is a cable or bracket that is moving 1-2mm over bumps to rattle against the sheet metal of the rear cab.

As someone earlier posted, likely a properly placed piece of felt could fix it, but I'd prefer to have an official solution before I spend hours hunting around and testing the right thing to wrap / insulate.

Currently, I just turn up the music because it's relatively easy to drown out.

Has anyone got this fixed yet? Took my truck in and they told me that it’s normal for the window to rattle while rolled down and wouldn’t do anything about it.

I experienced that. I wonder if it's the pieces above the box that is loose if it's vibrating in the back. With the window rolled down, you hear every vibration there is while hitting the smallest bumps on the road .

Has anyone been successful in fixing the rattling when the rear window is down? I understand that the manual says not to drive with it down, but I don't agree with this. I like to put it down for my pup when I don't have the side windows down (freeway mostly). It is loud and happens on any type of road.

A friend has a new '23 and he said his does not rattle. Has Toyota fixed the issue?

My 23 Limited CM rattles, does anyone know if there is a TSB for this problem?

My local deal states this isn't abnormal.
