Hello, I flew to Florida to buy my dream truck. This is my 3rd tundra. Picked it up and drove it back home to Texas. Currently have 44k miles on my early 2022 limited 4x4. My engine started knocking about two weeks ago. I’m heart broken. Currently at the dealer. They want to do a short block rebuild. Crank bearing failure, pushed the main seal out. Lost all oil pressure. Truck said to please find a safe place to stop. Engine shutting down. ☹️ not sure how I feel about a small block rebuilt engine. Talking with corporate about a buy back tomorrow. I’ll just order a new one I guess. I still love Toyotas. This is why you don’t buy the first year model! 73ABD21F-62C8-4570-B1AF-B44BB4E50FBF.jpg17BA947E-6DC7-4D50-87B2-731636D33F34.jpg

Can't like that at all :(....

I agree that a buy back seems to be the way to go. I hope that works out for you.

Welcome and greetings from Minnesota. Sorry to hear of your engine problems. Sounds like they are taking good care of you. You must put some serious miles on your trucks. I haven’t hit 2,000 miles yet on my 2021. I refuse to drive it in the salt up here.

@RoadtripJim yeah, I’m a fleet and Safety manager for a solar company. I cover 3 states I’m always on the go. I’m sure it will work out. I’ve only ever owned Toyotas since I was 16.

@Rangers, not sure. I saw them on a few Tundras. They were from Sparks Toyota. Great place to get parts. They were after market add on. Along with TRD Rims and Dash cam.

Interesting, I’m pretty sure the other engine failures reported on this forum on the 3rd gen all failed the same way albeit at less miles. I think the others were under 20k. 44k miles is one of the higher mileage trucks I’ve seen pop up personally. Good luck, I hope they take care of you!

Welcome from LA (Lower Alabama)! Wow - 44k miles?!?!? That many miles that soon have to be highway miles - no other way. Toyota should buy it back from you just to study why it blew.

I’ve officially requested a buy back for what I paid for the vehicle plus tt&l. Also to keep the loaner while a new one comes in. They have 30-45 days to respond. I’ll keep everyone updated.

Just curious, what would be the basis for a buyback? I was under the impression there has to be multiple failures of the same component for that to be considered…

What kind of oil change interval were you running racking up that kind of mileage?

seeing lots of these catastrophic failures.... This 3.4 liter is the most unreliable engine every made by Toyota, evidenced by its Lexus counterpart.

3rd gen tundra already back at the bottom of the pack below the Titan again lol.

They have accepted my buy back request. I have to submit a few things. I think I’ll wait a few years before getting another tundra.

@AZBoatHauler the basis is a serious safety concern. Also my vehicle has been in for repair for over 30 days. I was doing the recommended intervals of 10k oil changes. I just followed what the dealer recommended. It was easier with the warranty info with doing it that way. No question as to what was done. I’m under Texas lemon law.

Amazing - yet all I can focus on is the fact she misspelled her company name in the email signature block.

But what if it wasn’t a mistake at all, and they’re planning to offer him gold, frankincense and myrrh as part of the buyback?

It looks like a replacement is out of the question. After talking with the conflict resolution rep, the cost out of pocket would not make sense. I would owe Toyota 10k to get a replacement truck and start back at 0 miles and loan would stay the same. It’s most likely going to be a buy back. They are buying everything from me. I’m not sure which brand to try out next. I’m kinda lost right now I never thought I was going to get charged that much in mileage when the engine blowing wasn’t even my fault.

How about a '21 with low miles and a drivetrain people aren't posting stories about blowing up at 40k?
