    hello all,

i just ran into a small problem today while out on lunch. when i engage my vehicle into reverse, the screen showing the rear view shakes pretty badly. i'd put it back into park, then back into reverse and it still does it. i turned my vehicle off, went to the store, came back, and it wasn't present anymore. has anyone run into this issue? i tried searching up for any TSB's or recalls and only saw a few regarding the screen showing front instead of rear when in reverse.

i inspected the camera on my tailgate and didn't see that it was loose or anything, causing it to shake while idle/in park.

i have a short video of it in the link below.

    thank you in advance!

-for context, i have a 2022 sr5 trd offroad 4x4, non-JBL, 8'' screen as seen in the video clip.

Looks like a possible loose cable/wire. There should be a clip between your tailgate and the bed when you have the tailgate open. I'd pop that apart and make sure it's clean, and then make sure it's connected securely. If it persists you might have to start pulling the dash or tailgate apart to check other connections and wiring.

After thought, have you installed any aftermarket items? LED lights anywhere that it didn't come with? Some LEDs are known to cause interference with all kinds of things on newer vehicles.

ill check the cables between the tailgate/bed when i get a chance, thanks!

regarding aftermarket LEDs, i do have some installed. i have the lasfit switchback LEDs for my front turn signals. i installed those about 2.5 months ago, and this is the first time i've seen my camera have this kind of shake.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I meant interior aftermarket LEDs. I don't know of any external ones having issues, but that doesn't mean it is not possible.

no worries. as far as interior aftermarket LEDs, then no. all interior lighting is stock. appreciate your input on this though!

my service with toyota is coming up soon, so i'll most likely bring it up to them and see if they've had this brought to their attention before or not.

Definitely get it documented with them. It should be something they will warranty, I would think.

This doesn't look like a loose cable to me. The menu buttons and text at the bottom of the screen are bouncing too, not just the video feed. Looks like a problem with the actual infotainment unit.

good eye! def didn't notice that in the video.

i made an appointment for this saturday at my dealership. i'll report back with my findings.
i also mentioned my other (common) issues like:
    1) driverside window whistling at moderate-higher speeds
    2) metal clunking noise with engine during start-up, usually cold start-ups.
    3) rattling rear windshield when rolled all the way down.

ah sorry for not updating. been busy the past few days.

unfortunately, I have no new info. the dealership let me down and gave me the run around. apparently they were too busy since it was Saturday, even though I went there on Thursday, in-person, to make my appointment for service + 4 issues I wanted mentioned. I'm sure they had no intention to look into it and wanted my service money.

per my concerns, they seemed completely oblivious to them, and wanted to keep my truck for 3-4 days to investigate, which I could not do.

1)wind concern-they said they would have to test drive and see where it's coming from.
    2) rattling rear windshield- same as above.
    3) engine clunk- wanted to keep my truck overnight so they could start it up while cold.
    4) reverse video shake- they had no clue. they asked ME if anyone mentioned anything on the forum for a fix.

this baffles me that they were acting like these were brand new issues to them, unless they were playing dumb to not accept any liability/responsibility.

They just don't want to do it, is all. Those are known issues. Tell them to set up a rental so you can leave it, or try a different dealership if you have access to more than one. If they balk, go through Toyota. They will get you taken care of.... eventually.

I always thought they wanted to do all of the services, recalls, and service bulletins because that's toyota sending them money. is that not the case?

I'm personally not interested in leaving my vehicle in their possession overnight, so I opted to just wait until they're more in control of these issues, where they can address them immediately opposed to having to use my vehicle as the lab rat to research and investigate the problems.

while these issues are annoyances, I can hold off and tolerate it for the mean time. the shakey reverse video feed hasn't happened ever since the day I recorded the video, but the others I can hold off on for now.

appreciate the feedback though, thank you very much!

Is it with the engine running? Try to switch to R with the engine off.

Not at all. Toyota pays them less for warranty work than what they make for regular. If they can avoid it, they will.

As for waiting, you'll outwait your warranty before these are something they can address immediately.

this happened while engine was running. it hasn't happened again since recording that video. I just put it into reverse, vehicle on, engine off, and it shows the video feed fine.

yeah I wouldn't wait that long. I'll address it again within this year and arrange a rental like you stated if they haven't come up with a solid solution yet.
