    Howdy all!

I have a 2014 TRD Pro which was recently stolen (although I still don't know how).

Shortly afterwards, my console started shorting out, and finally went out completely. Stereo, backup camera, the whole segment in the middle of the console is dead. I double checked all of the fuses, and that was not the issue. It flickered intermittently a couple of weeks later, but is dead since then. I'd lay money down there there simply is a short in the system somewhere, and possibly because of the thieves who stole my truck.

I did take it to the Toyota dealer. They checked it out, and said that the system was shorted out. They won't go in and try to find the short, and said they would just replace the whole center stereo system unit (which was going to be something like $1000-$1500. I'm in medical school and don't have the money or time for either this repair or to jockey around with a voltmeter in the console (and probably couldn't get in there even if I wanted.

Any recommendations for whom I might contact to look around in there? I'm in the Seattle area and looked around for car electricians, but can't really find anything. I wouldn't think regular electricians are qualified to tear apart a Tundra console in search of a short. Are there specialists somewhere that deal with this kind of thing? If I did find someone, is it just ultimately going to cost me as much as it would to simply rip out the unit and replace?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

    Tom

You should contact the insurance company that handled the theft claim....they might be able to better assist in getting this diagnosed and fixed.

    This.

It's a result of the theft therefore a liability that should be taken care of via insurance.

Everyone with an aftermarket stereo has an extra one sitting in their garage. I’m sure you can find one to buy for cheap.

Look for a clipped wire somewhere that may be shorting it out. You may need to apart the lower trim around the steering wheel and check every wire for damage. If the insurance is going to pay for it, then have them do it, if its you paying for the damage, then I would take the time to pull the trim out and look through the harness in there. there is a electrical wire diagram on the site, so I would start there.
