Does anyone know of a thermos that actually keeps liquids hot for 6-8 hours? So many claims for 24 hours, 36 hours, etc. But I have not found one that actually keeps it really hot for even 6 hours.

I have not had good luck. Hot for an hour, then lukewarm after that.

We actually just ran a test to see which brand would keep things cold or warm the longest. (Yes, we were bored.) We tested Stanley, Hydro Flask and Yeti. The Hydro Flask kept ice the longest. Still had ice 15 hours later in a 72degree environment. The hot liquids was where we struggled to keep them warm, and that's when we learned a trick. You need to bring the bottle to a high temp first. We boiled water in an electric kettle, filled the bottles for 5 mins which warmed them up, dumped the water, then we added our hot chocolate (my 9 year old was in-charge of the experiment). Again the Hydro Flask stayed the warmest longest. Stanley was the last place.
I learned this trick also works with coolers, we pre cool our coolers in the basement before we use them.

We preheat our Thermos and then fill with boiling water. We use it approximately 6 hours later for lunches on the ski hill and the water is hot enough to cook ramen and other instant stuff with still. Its still burn your lip hot.

I have good luck with Yeti but only with the slide lock tops. Open tops or the old style without the slide would always cool quickly.

No experiment done for this, but my stainless steel yeti, NOT the colored one, holds liquids hotter a lot longer than the colored ones. Again, no experiment done, but that has been my experience. I have a stainless one and my wife has a colored one - she always takes mine because it stays hotter longer, and I usually guzzle it down before it matters.

The only one I've ever owned that keeps stuff hot for hours is a 20 or 30 year old actual Thermos brand thermos that I bought from some garage sale a few years back for $5. LOL

It's a 40oz and the bottom has: SK2010MBTRI4 or 072513F. I'm guessing one of those numbers might be the model?

I feel your pain. The old Thermos/Nissan Direct Drink from Cabelas was the best, so of course they stopped carrying it. In desperation I tried a Burnout thermos ("developed by rocket scientists...") and was sorely disappointed. Not only was it heavier and bulkier, but it didn't work well even with pre-heating. In December I lucked into a limited run of the old style Thermos/Nissan available through Walmart (go figure), so I ordered four of them. Just checked, and unfortunately even that link shows them now sold out. Every once in a while they do another run of them, so if you find anything that look like the pic below they work pretty well, much better than any of the newer style ones.

I have 2 or 3 thermos brand that are great. Have couple of Stanley that are very good. Have couple of Nissan brand from Cabela's that are also very good!
Like said pre-heat and fill it up.
All mine keep tea or coffee burning hot after 8 or more hours in cold weather inside the car. I wrap it in a spare jacket or a sweater or blanket or whatever I can find. I also make sure tea or coffee is very hot but not boiling or it won't taste good.

I Have a Starbucks brand that is junk. Hot for only 3 hours. I take that with me but drink it first if I need more than 1 thermos. It has an easy pour button that I like but I think that's where the heat loss comes from beside being junk.
Yeti is over-priced imho. Have a Yeti mug that I like though. It keeps things hot pretty good after leaving the house.

I would check the Amazon reviews but my regular Stanley brands work great but they are all old(er).

As mentioned by others, you definitely need to pre-heat. I have a Stanley, but I can’t say it is any better than other brands. These days it is all made in China, except for maybe a few but then the price is outrageous!

I have mainly Yeti stuff now. With a preheat, my tumbler is good for 4+ hours and the bottle is good for 7+ if I don't open it, maybe 5+ if I open it a couple times. I fill it with my morning coffee into it at 0530 and am pouring my final cup around 1130 and it's still hot.

If Nissan can make a very good thermos why not Toyota?

Toyota should work on an optional ATF Cooler / Coffee Warmer Heat Exchanger Thermos. Just plug it in and kill 2 birds with one stone!

I use these for heated liquids, and the regular tumbler cup style (with the slide lock top) for cold stuff. No science behind it, just what I prefer and what works for me.

I have this Stanley with great success.
    https://ca.stanley1913.com/products/classic-legendary-bottle-1-5-qt?variant=40538861535284

I preheat with boiling water, always fill it right up, and pour by loosening the stopper - not removing (also important for retaining heat) and it lasts well over 8 hours if it stays sealed up. I’ve actually left boiling water in it on the kitchen counter for 24 hours and it was still “steaming warm”, at the end. Of course, take it outside in the winter, pour off half a few hours in, and the last half is lukewarm a couple hours after that. Damn physics.

I also bought one of these last year, nice to have hot soup when hunting, sledding or ice fishing.
    https://ca.stanley1913.com/products/classic-legendary-food-jar-24-oz
I also preheat it, soup goes in simmering hot in the early morning, it’s still uncomfortably hot to eat mid afternoon.

Rich people buy $400+ Yeti coolers. I think they lowered their prices to the $250 range since they first came out. Cabela's keeps thinking of creative ways to sell T-Shirts and coolers for 10 times the price.

Help the FED fight the inflation and lower consumer spending. :D

We still like our several sizes of Igloo and Coleman (6-day) coolers. I think I paid mid $50 for the biggest one and does very well.
