Most of my time is spent herding children like an Australian shepherd dog. If I could do useful stuff I’d do it.

now with that said, some specialty stuff is way better hired out. I’ll hang rock all day but tape, texture and paint? F that.

and leveling cabinets or countertops, lots of tricks there where I’m happy to hire it out.

really, 90% is the stress of the GC. Any sloppiness is fixable, just needs to be identified and prioritized.

 

I hate painting. It's one of the things I can't stand doing, but often end up doing it anyway.

I also hate doing drywall. Well, I don't mind doing drywall, it's the mud. It really is an art to do it, with clean seams, fast, and limited dust.

Tile is another one I won't touch, but FML if it's not almost impossible to find a really, truly talented tile guy ....

Hanging rock is where a few extra hours sets the rest up for success and many drywall guys are too stoned or lazy to do it right. I’ve seen it on the job site. Material is cheap but time is money for a contractor.

And with a second pair of hands, it’s pretty easy to get drywall done right. Takes a bit of of talent to do it alone,
Especially the ceilings.

Oh, forgot to mention... my ½" impact that went fubar... I looked into milwaukee service. They quoted me $175 for repair IF it was out of warranty.

I don't have proof of purchase though so... I'm not sure how that would work.

Anyways, I sent it their way today for about $6 to buy the box, and whatnot. We'll see what they have to say about it, but I'm happy with that if they can fix it. Milwaukee paid cost of shipping. I paid for the box. Happy!

Hydration pack or water bottle?

 

I'm gonna attempt to explain this the best I know how, but I may not say it right. I was thinking of doing a 4 x 8GB kit cause I thought it would be better. That doesn't work the same as 2 x 16G unless your CPU has quad channel capabilities. Mine is only dual channel. It's also slower because it has to go through 4 sticks instead of 2. I think that's what I read.

 

Wonder if it was you moving = weight shifting = pin inching out, finally coming free. Wonder if that pin is cast or if it is something that can come loose, not fully retract.

 

Technically.... When parking on inclines one should shift to Neutral, apply parking brake, release foot brake allowing p-brake to take weight of vehicle, THEN shift to Park.

I wish someone would educate the flatbed tow truck drivers on this approach. I had one guy drive it up at a 30 degree incline, put it in park, chock the wheels and put chains on the frame.

Thankfully, they’re not all like that but for someone with a flatbed towing for a living, you’d think they’d know better.

 

Mobile order at the local DQ. Pulled up. Got in line at drive through. Finally got to the marquee thing.

Told em who I was. "Can you pull around those cars in line? We'll bring your order to you."

"No problem! Thanks!"

Felt like a mfn VIP driving around all 4 cars. Was at the DQ all of 4 minutes. In and out.

Actually not that abnormal. You see lots of that in the northeast. Also see the random toilet in the open basement, no walls, no curtains, random toilet.

Is that a pantry or a walkway past the double ovens? I ask because I'd consider a fold up island extension by the fridge. That fourth stool furthest from the 'fridge will not really get used unless forced. Who wants to sit with a cabinet in your face while being crowded by an appliance?

How hard do yall think it would be to add a digital/analog oil pressure gauge to the corolla?

That's the only thing that bothers me that I can't glance at it like I can in the trucks

 

I think I'd bring all the lines & drains in now. No fixtures now to keep her happy, but if everything is only a drywall cut away - your life will be better when she later decides you need another bathroom. Throw a little extra structure in the wall in case you go wall hung toilet down the road.

 

I've been the guy the GC had to answer to on 4 hotel remodels & 1 new build hotel. I've learned if you're a PIA & stickler early on, the quality of the work is notably superior. If you play nice they take every short cut they can. But my jobs were so high dollar I knew they'd never walk. Let them know you see crap work & make them fix it from go & there will be less for you to find later. They'll up their game.

Maybe that's why I don't bother renovating at home. 1974 is still solid & functional.

When we were kids, we'd go around the neighborhood & drag home Christmas trees. We'd use a hatchet to cut off the branches, use the trunks to make a teepee Then wrap it in a tarp. Mom would take the branches we cut off & cover her flower beds until the spring.
Kid's fort for the winter, cause mom kicked you out of the house regardless of the season.

Guess kids would dissolve into inert gas & disappear on the breeze if you gave them a hatchet nowadays. :-(
