Nice! You’re gonna need a big power supply for that RTX3080.

Looking at how much $$$ a 3080 is, I think I'll go with something else. Maybe a 6800xt to keep it all AMD. I don't really need a bigger card though; minecraft runs more on the CPU than GPU.

    Ditto.

We've got 2 sets of the mountain ones and I also have the 21x22mm & 24x25mm Matco ones. I probably would have bought the smaller sets in the Matco flavor if they were available way back when I got them (for ease of warranty).

@daveeasa If you buy the mountain ones from tool topia or jb tools ($160ish) you can use the lifetime warranty through them if need be. I've broken one of the 17x19 in the last couple years.

    OK, let's do this:

    20230211_185957.jpg

    20230211_190042.jpg

    20230211_190345.jpg

Old RAM out, new RAM on deck:

    20230211_190717.jpg

    20230211_190726.jpg

    New RAM in:

    20230211_190847.jpg

    20230211_190854.jpg

So apparently, you have to make sure it clicks when you put the sticks in. I didn't and my PC just kinda cycled off and on. Reset the sticks with a click and it fired up. Into BIOS we go!

    20230211_192219.jpg

No no no, I bought 3600 RAM. This won't do. A few tweaks later:

    20230211_192738.jpg

There we go. Let's check the task manager now:

    20230211_193055.jpg

    20230211_193133.jpg

Everything seems to be OK. I guess I did everything right! So for anyone out there wondering how to add some RAM to your PC, it's easy. Don't give it a second guess. 32G costs about $100 so just do it.

Yep, gotta make sure both outer wings snap into the side notches.

And with that said, there's a potential argument to be made here. In reality, it *may* be worthwhile to reinstall the original 2 8GB sticks and land yourself 48GB of RAM. The difference in speed may be negligible versus the increased amount of RAM, but you'd need to benchmark before and after to find out. If you run into stability problems, just pull the old sticks out.

It’s been a long, long time since I did anything in a PC (I’m actually still running a Win XP system I built in ‘03, lol) so I’m hardly knowledgeable about it, but it looks like you’ve got 4 slots, can you also run the old ram, or is that more than it can handle or is needed?

Thats awesome. Like my buddies first house we remodeled. Draw out the floorplan, or copy blueprints and go wild. We converted his laundry room into a fishtank room (for a salt water system), and added a walk in pantry, and moved the laundry into a closet next to the water heater. Drew it up, printed it out so we could spitball different ideas.

    do a big single window.

I really want a second downstairs potty for the animals. The misery every morning while we fight them to pee and brush teeth before school. Maddening. But I guess a toilet in the laundry room is not that normal.

plan for the kitchen. The two windows (currently plywood) are identical. One is new. Should help with the lighting problem.

My parents have a toilet, sink and vanity on one side of their laundry room, it’s not that weird, better than no second bathroom.

    TI99/4A here.

My brother would kick my ass if I didn't spend all day writing in BASIC out of a book it came with to make this slot machine game. No hard drive or storage in it. Most of the time, he'd finish with it, then look me dead in the face as he turned off the power before I got my chance to play. Total dickwad move.

Our 1st 'IBM compatible' was running DOS 3.x, Norton Utilities was the shit you had to have, and dad got pissed a couple years later when I installed Windows 3.1 on one of the hard drive partitions. People these days don't understand how spoiled they are.

It all starts somewhere, here's some pics of mine when we tripled the size of it. Glad you got your mice taken care of.

Where we started back in '09:

Was happy to rip it all out:

Lots of work involved, including reframing outside window. We did basically everything except weaving in the new floors, a couple of copper and steel runs, and cabinets/countertops.

Dude, I GC'd out for about 80-90% of our basement remodel. I get it.

I prefer doing the work because I've found too many times my attention to detail is higher than most I've ever hired or seen hired. We've got a guy now I can trust for the most part, and rarely need to call out on anything. And I can actually tell him fine details of what needs to be done, which makes his life easier.

We were tired as hell of the little tiny thing we had before. Kitchen is a gathering spot in our house for family/friends ("framily") and you couldn't have more than 2 people in the old one without rubbing asses. New one has plenty of space to sprawl, and the original 'nook' with informal dining was dumb as hell.

You'll be happier after. And don't hesitate to half-bath the laundry room. Just make sure those floor holes are tight! You obviously have rodents under/around the place.

And yeah, the window was probably the worst part of mine. I found a pic of me outside on scaffolding boxing in the outside, hanging the window. I looked a hell of a lot younger in 2009. The kids have aged my ass for real!

I think we would be pals IRL.

yeah, wish my wife were more receptive to potty in laundry room. I don’t have much creative control. But I get do do my copper wires. I’ll take what I can get.

thats the ticket. Learn to do it right, and shortcuts stand out like clownshoes. I wish i'd lived a life where everything was farmed out, and it still seemed like magic. But friends of mine are buying houses that have been rushed together in a month, and as someone who has done the stuff, i see the warped walls and half-assed trim. I usually dont say anything until they say something, but i'm the guy they call when they need to say something. My buddy in kileen is waiting on me to make it up there to rebuild his master closet to add a (damn near walk-in gun safe) shelves.

painting professionally was the worst. I've painted so many walls so many different shades of white, i wont do it anymore. Want me to paint? I get to pick the color.
