That could be cool, and offset it with the same height difference created by the TUNDRA, in the same matching Tundra font (Avenir, I think).

Agreed. Dealership messed that up once for me once. Never again would I let them touch my Truck.

 

My 4.7 is torn down. Trying to decide whether I am going to put my crank and rods into the new block if possible, or if I'm gonna tap the heads and run external oil pressure for the VVTi oil feed and just use my block. Leaning toward the latter because my block is in really good shape. 95% of the crosshatching in the cylinders is still there and the rod bearings look pretty good.

 

Can you get me a better shot of the oil pickup and its tube? I'm just curious more than anything, what the shape of the oil pickup actually is, if it's inset, and where the tube ties into. For whatever reason, that one pic is distorted, like it's squat left-to-right.

 

Sadly thats the only pic I have atm, the motor is currently living at the auto shop at my school. I'll try to remember to get you some more pics when I go back on monday.

 

Not a prob. I remembered seeing one over on Ih8MUD, and was able to track it down. More than anything I was curious how/where it tied into the block, and whether the mesh had a cup. Was wondering what would realistically happen if a chunk of crust broke off and got jammed in there. Looks like it'd be just fine as long as it doesn't clog the entire open tip, or get past the screen.

Spent a long flight reading through the Full Service Manual on my laptop. Very helpful. So much of the good and best advice on here is really just guys who have obviously spent some time digging through there and doing the jobs.

 

Very good, but I think the letters should be the same size as the Toyota letters. I found some raised letters that could work at Hobby Lobby if painted chrome, but they're wood. Also, some in chrome plastic but they were all too small and lower case. I'll look for something in metal....

And, we need a good adhesive backing that won't come off with a car wash.

 

Yeah, I don't have the font for it. What Toyota is using is fatter than the Avenir Black I have, even with faux bold and italic applied.

I'm sure if I hunted in them interwebs I could probably find the correct font.

As for adhesive, 3M makes a killer trim adhesive, I've linked it up on here in the past. This is one of them. Works great.

 

Today I greased my upper BJ's and then spent an hour or so touching up rock chips on my sliders.

I also used this thing if anyone recognizes it. Handy tool to have around for $7.

 

Make sure to wear a mask. You breath that shit in and your throat will kill for a day!

 

Such a good little cheap tool. Use it every time I pull the wires on a vehicle to do work.

 

What stuff? I didn't have any battery terminal cleaner if that's what you mean.

 

Maybe he means the build up on the terminals can be nasty to inhale when ground into dust form?

Yep, that's what he means. When it goes airborne, its no-bueno in your upper respiratory.

Do you guys really get crusty buildup around your terminals? I use terminal washers on everything, along with dielectric grease, and never need to clean my batteries.

 

I had planned today to change my diff/tc fluids out, but I couldn't find my damn handy pump after all the work we've done to remodel and move my shop space.

Spent 90 mins hunting, broke down, and bought a new handy pump. Nothing doing 'til tomorrow, just in time to return whatever fluid I don't use. Meh.

Anyway, dunno where I got my old one, but shameless plug, if you're like with no lift, these make it super easy to fill/drain low-lying stuff out of 1QT bottles. Hope it's as good as my other one was. I just wish it had a steel j-hook tube on the end.

Not really. Mine were pretty clean and I put fluid film on the terminals. My crank time is slow sometimes and another member said his crank time improved after cleaning his so I figured I would try it. I figured it would be a handy tool to have around either way. The only car that would get corrosion on the terminals was my 02 Corolla. No clue why.

 

That’s the worst, when you can’t find the tool you need when you know you have it. I’ve spent more time looking for something than the project should take and by the time I find it (if I find it) I’m usually too pissed off to do said project.

We got super lucky when ours died out in the sticks, stopped to get some fresh milk for the baby……. Hahah went to restart and it wouldn’t. I waved down this old fart coming from the lake and jumped us, I definitely gassed up with it running

 

Yup, story of my life today. And about right - 90mins to find it, might've taken an hour to do the work.
